Lol guys, think about it. The ACT makes the September Science Section hard so you will retake it. It is a profit maximizing corporation, simple as that.

What were the answers to the syringe passage?
-All Boiling Point?
-Biggest change was 50 to 19.6
-Heating in 1, Coolant in 2,
-As D increases, temp increases so the one that was lower had lower temp

:D Yep! I agree with all of the above. ^^

I feel for you all on this and there are several legitimate (and witty) posts here. Hopefully the ACT officials will listen up and do the right thing if it turns out that more students than usual bomb the science section this round.

That said, I and others really wish kids would refrain from using the word “rape” when describing anything but, well, actual rape – particularly as it relates to a test-taking experience. Enduring a difficult ACT sitting is not rape. Rape is a terrible, physical indignity that irrevocably harms someone, usually females. The scars left behind are, typically, souvenirs for life. In other words, it sucks beyond virtually anything you can imagine, sometimes even death itself, and remains a very real problem around the globe, whether we’re talking the Congo or Harvard Yard.

Roll your eyes if you must; I realize that some of you might not appreciate the power of the word until you get to college (or you or someone you know actually endures a rape). Still, I can assure you that casually tossing out the word on virtually any campus next year will offend both female and male classmates and, frankly, will make you look like an insensitive, back-woods d-bag (a far better term, though still offensive to some). I am sure it’s a heat-of-the-moment thing and I realize it’s part of the teen vernacular in some circles so I do not mean to scold, but please think twice when posting on CC and tossing it out elsewhere. That is all. I wish each of you luck in your college quest and hope this particular ACT result doesn’t mess with that. It all works out in the end, believe it.

^ This a million times over.

-Syringe Passage
Graph started at 70 and increased or decreased?

-Last Passage
Scientists want to find out role of parent dna
50 %, 50 %?
Hypothesis 2: Role of substitute DNA?

I know you guys are frustrated, and so am I. But do you guys really think that the ACT hasn’t ever thrown a super hard science section at people before? I’m sure they get complaints every year. Even when it is super hard, I haven’t seen there curve vary greatly. We can only pray… :(

^^ Graph decreased, as the temperature was reaching room temperature and thus (due to the relationship I described earlier in this thread) the volume of the syringe decreased as well.

I think i got 0-100% because something with the N14 N15 ordering, does anyone remember?

i think its 50/50 because of the 4 total strands of DNA (according to scientist 2), 2 strands are the original parent strand (N-15) and two are the new synthesized strands (N-14), therefore it’s 50/50

^UGH, if so, i second guessed myself

I entered the science section of the test with high confidence, as that was my highest score when I last took the test in June. I started off well, but soon faded.
The first few passages were very easy, and I was feeling great. The guitar passage is when things slowly went from good to horrible. The syringe question made my brain lose a few cells, and the DNA question made me want to fling my test across the room, get up on my desk, and scream loudly. However, I only had about 5-7 minutes to finish the DNA passage, so I did my best and aggressively guessed. The first few questions about what the hypotheses were saying weren’t too bad after reading them a thousand times, and then by the time the questions got to the test tubes I died inside.
I feel confident my potential success in the prior passages outweighs the utter failure of the last few passages. Otherwise I’ll be taking this test again in December.

That’s messed up lol. What about the seniors who would rather not have to rush scores for early applications? All they care about is money

how do you rush scores?

@nyocm95

Pretty much exactly that. The guitar, syrine, and DNA passages…my god. I wanted to yell at the proctor.

@marcut

NOOO WHY WOULD YOU LINK THEM TO THIS FORUM!

You aren’t supposed to discuss questions…and now they will track us down
OH NOOOOOOOOOO

^^We have three people in agreement in the previous posts that the answer to that question was 50-50. Sorry :(

lol kevyuuuu, do you honestly think people from that ACT are going to try to piece together who we are based on minimalist information on a college forum page? The test is over, and everyone talks about questions. Nobody there or here cares.

Does anyone remember the bubble pattern for the last 5 questions (the last column of questions in the science section)?

I definitely thought i was going to improve my overall and get a 35-36. Thanks to science (got a 36 last time), it wont happen…■■■. I thought the (science) questions required a lot of background knowledge of formulas and concepts… That being said, ACT science test makers shall get fired!!
And this was the last ACT for most seniors due to EA…
