Official Stats Threads For Prospectives for 2008

I don't think it's worthless.
I mean, I know it's not going to allow me to walk in there, but I think it says something. It might not affect my chances much, but any push in the right direction is a good one in my mind. :)

Mostly I'm just trying to stay positive, gotta keep excited for the next month and a half!

School:
It's a private day prep school in the midwest.

Grades: 3.9-4.0 throughout middle school. Grades for first quarter in ninth grade were pretty much all B's and a D+ in geometry. (~3.0) Second quarter grades came out to around a 3.7 ~3.3 overall for first semester. While my school is pretty difficult, my grades could be much higher. I have no idea about my rank but I'm sure it wasn't good at all for first quarter, but hopefully for the first semester it will be top 30%+.

SSAT: Dec '06 - 40 (31 M, 50 R, 50 V) Dec '07 - 43 (26 M, 54 R, 56 V) Jan '08 - 64% (35 M, 70 R, 78 V)

Community Service
I have been volunteering at my mother's business that works with children since I could remember. I usually go there for at least an hour after school each day of the week. It's not formally recorded, though.
I am applying to be a volunteer at a hospice for a few hours each week.

Ashbury College 2005 - One week writing course at a local boarding school where my dad lives

Recommendations
Probably below average for math for the academic parts of it, but for the personal parts they should be pretty good. My Spanish recommendation should be amazing. The teacher loves me. haha My English recommendation should be great, and I got a personal recommendation with someone I work with in my mother's business, should be great as well.

Essays
Pretty good

Interviews
I had an interview at Andover while I was there in July and it went pretty well. St. Paul's interview was mediocre. I have my Taft interview on Tuesday, and didn't have a Groton interview because they don't conduct off-campus interviews, so I had to replace it with an additional rec.

This year I will be applying to Loomis Chaffe, Andover and Kent fro 11th grade, currently I am in 10th. I attend an international school in the Netherlands. However, last year I lived in Japan. I am not applying for Financial Aid. I have always gone to competitive international schools.

Kids: Please be careful not to post so much identifying information! There must be a way to list your stats with more general descriptions.

You might not want every single post you've ever made to be read by an admissions rep!

aren't we supposed to refrain from posing info that can identify us?

AHHH!
Baseballmom.you're right.
We should try not to give so much info...
:T

lol baseballmom, i didnt even see your post. sorry for repeating you! :)

I tried to be pretty general and vague. I may not have succeeded, though.

Jonathan - what schools are you applying to again? Andover, SPS, Groton, Taft, anything else? I'm just a little concerned about your chances at these top schools given that, by your own admission, your grades could be better and your SSAT's are definitely in the low range for these schools.

Understand, I'm not trying to pick on you at all. You've got a lot of great EC's and I'm sure your a terrific kid.

Nor do I pretend to be an expert on BS admissions. But I have been through this process with two kids in the last two years, so I do know how competitive things are, and how important grades and SSAT's can be. I'm a little worried that all the schools you're applying to are going to be a stretch. Do you have a couple of less competitive schools you are also applying to? Are you basically happy where you are and deliberately applying to only the top tier of schools because it would take getting into one of these schools to make you leave your current school?

prpdd-- I am only applying to Andover, SPS, Groton, and Taft. Yes, I am only applying to the top, top school because the school I go to now is excellent, and I would be content with staying here for all of high school, but I would much prefer going to one of the schools I applied to. My projected SAT scores are 710 verbal and 650 math (highest end of the range they gave me), which isn't too far off from their average SAT scores. At Taft, the average is 634 verbal and 655 math. (avg. SSAT 82%)

Jonathan--congratulations to you for following your dream. You have worked hard and you never know, you may get into one of the schools you have applied to and you really have nothing to lose since you are happy at your current school.

My son was discouraged from applying to his dream schools when he was your age due to a "low GPA" (it was a 3.2) and he was accepted to 5/5 schools one of which was Andover, so it really can happen

Good luck to you

The projected scores don't mean anything though. For example, it says you will probably get a 650 in the math but, how do you know that for sure. Honestly, getting a D in Geometry doesn't really lead to those kind of scores.

geometry is kinda different then algebra though

nonetheless they are both on the sat

capriati, they're projected SAT scores, but are pretty accurate from what I've heard. I'm hoping to score higher on the SAT than what they projected, though. I'm going to start going to Kumon soon, which will help tremendously with math. BTW, I've increased my grade in geometry to an A-, however it's only half way into the third quarter.

well the range they give you for the sat scores
its usually correct because with that kind of range its sort of impossible to be wrong
but the only thing is that a 64% isn't impressive when kids with 90% are applying
and I know you know that SSAT's are not the only thing that is important but, when applying for FA it can hurt. However, your an american applicant with some international experience so that will help a lot

BUT anyways back to the projected scores when i took the ssat's last year i recieved in the high 60's and low 70's and they predicted for me to get 1380-1510 on the old sat
but, imagine how high the score predictors are for people with 90's
CMON I had a low score for the TSAO standards.

All the schools I'm applying to don't factor FA into admission decisions.

Whatever, though.. we'll see on March 10!
