I applied at the end of October and I still have not received an admission decision. I’m getting very worried. Has this happened to anyone else?

fallenchemist - completely agreed. even though ive already been to tamu once i will probably go visit again just for the heck of it. and i will definitely be visiting tulane. houston i dont really care about at all…

croationnation - do they have all of your documents? it shows online. once they have those it only took them one day according to the postmark to accept me. but keep in mind they have until dec 15 to tell everyone!

Accepted! Applied EA on October 31st and was admitted November 12th.

GPA: 3.5
SAT: 2100 (CR: 700, M: 660, W: 740)

I feel like those are really the two most important parts, but additionally, I had strong essays, a number of extracurriculars (sports, music, theater)/community service and work experiences, most likely very good teacher/counselor recommendations…

How has everyone been alerted online? By checking their application status or by email?

By checking their Gibson account

So there is no alert? It just shows up on Gibson

That’s right. If you never checked, you would just see the snail mail show up.

Do you get notified over gibson if you are deffered or just if you are accepted? Because I am worried that I have not been notified yet? I applied Oct 17 and my app was marked complete 2 weeks ago? 3.55 gpa 2000 sat

Disregard the accidental question marks in the previous post. by the way i forgot to fill out one of the supplements on the app. Will this have a major impact on my decision?

If you get deferred it probably would not be posted until close to the December 15 deadline. I still think you are worried needlessly, it just isn’t that long. You would likely be in that group that would have to be deliberated about, not about getting in (I think you probably will get in unless there are things that are working against you we just cannot see, like a not very challenging schedule of honors and AP. Also don’t know if that 3.55 is W or UW. I am assuming UW. If weighted then it really might be a close call, depending on how that stacks up against your classmates), but as to whether you would get offered merit and how much.

Again, some students probably can get approved by a single counselor or a counselor and the director because they are easy calls. Others might have to be talked about by the entire admissions committee. Please try and relax a little. There really isn’t much you can do now anyway. However, if you think you submitted your app before you had actually completed it, send an e-mail to your admissions counselor telling them this and ask them what you should do.

I think I may have forgotten to fill out one of the optional supplements. Is that a big deal?

My daughter got her letter last night. So excited! Giant envelope that looks like a big wedding invitation.

App was complete before Nov. 1 but she asked them to hold decision for receipt of teacher recs which she knew would help (including AP English Lang and AP Spanish teachers).

Sorry I don’t have the whole list of items in front of me, but to summarize, SAT 2010. (700 on reading, 610 on math, took it a second time to get the math up and got 800 on writing. that probably didn’t hurt.) GPA 3.3/3.67 but public arts HS is ranked 50th in the nation and pretty rigorous senior year including AP Spanish Lit, AP US Gov, Hon Marine Science, Pre-calc (she’s more of an English type) and college class in British Lit Before 1800 (killer class). I’m guessing that extra curics probably helped push her over - Florida All-State violinist a number of years, Interlochen Philharmonic Orchestra, co-chair of local kids charity event. But demonstrated interest extremely high too - met with the orchestra director during her visit to Tulane (he was basically in her corner with admissions), some quality communication with admissions counselor, pretty killer essay and a very thoughtful “Why Tulane” essay that told them straight up this is her top choice and why.

Applied single choice EA with app completed by probably 11/5 and her acceptance letter went out 11/11. Will attend as long as she gets some financial aid, but apps into a few other schools RD just to see what they come back with financially (ie Emory, U Miami, Rollins, UVa). She had toyed with the idea of going EA at Tulane and also ED with Emory, where she was recruited for violin too, but finally decided she’d be happier at Tulane.

Very excited and feel this will be a great fit for her, since she is passionate about music, literature, architecture and (OF COURSE) food! Only in New Orleans, only at Tulane!

Good luck to all of you future Green Wavers! (Is that a word???)

Actually Mom, isn’t that SAT 2110? 1310 on traditional + 800. Hate to see you shortchange your D!! Ah well, moot now that she is in. Congrats to her, she sounds like a remarkable young woman. Tulane is VERY lucky to have her. I hope the FA goes well also. Is she applying for the musicianship award? http://tulane.edu/financialaid/grants/tulane-musicianship-award.cfm

It is now!

Duh. Yes you are right about the SAT - was thinking of the first score I guess. She may apply for the music scholarship but not sure she wants to be full on music major. She will definitely study music and play in the orchestra but has many other interests too - English, political economy, Tulane offers so much to choose from!

Now that I see all the kids getting their merit awards, I’m putting the pressure on her to complete her DHS app this weekend!

Thanks for the encouragement and we are all keeping fingers crossed that this works as she definitely wants to be there in the Fall!

Double majoring at Tulane is fairly common. Tulane makes it easier because all schools are under the Newcomb-Tulane College umbrella. Something to think about.

Not to be a downer, but generally DHS winners have SAT scores of 2250+ and GPA (UW) of 3.8+. Just so you know and your expectations are set accordingly. Your D is clearly a stunningly remarkable person (I was a trumpet player and was decent and it provided me with numerous opportunities at Tulane, but I was nowhere near to her talent level. I am envious) and I would think she would have a good shot at other aid, but the DHS would be a long shot. Sorry to be so blunt.

got my acceptance letter today, i’m thrilled! got into the honors program and got the $27,000 scholarship… need to get to work on my DHS app, but it’s probably a long shot. it took over two weeks for them to get back to me, so if you don’t hear back within a few days, don’t get too worried!

my stats, if anyone’s interested:
SAT 2230 (800 CR, 650 M, 780 W)
GPA: 4.0 UW
so-so ECs, but i did have several hundred hours of community service.
essays were decent; i wrote them in 15 minutes so definitely not my best.
incredible teacher recs, i’m very close to them

Congratulations, Dizzying. Not sure why you think the DHS is a long shot. I mean technically it is for everyone, with 75 awarded out of 1000-1500 apps, but I would think with a good project you have as much of a chance as most. Best of luck!

GOT ACCEPTED WITH 68,000/4 years!!!

Wasn’t expecting that, I have a 3.3W GPA and 1900something SATs, out of state.

Congrats. That is a good example of what I mean when I say it is more than stats (although yours are certainly well above average). You obviously have qualities that Tulane thinks would be great to have at the university.

I went with a pretty risky essay topic. I wrote about how I played online poker for 2-3 years and in those years I grossed over $17,000. I figured they would think that is either really cool, or they would reject me immediately because it makes me sound like a gambler.

Also, I believe my ‘Why Tulane?’ part was pretty good.

Also, I’m a national-caliber track athlete (as well as captain), but I’m not pursuing that in college.
