Official ubc class of 2014 thread :)

Human kinetics…wow I didn’t even know that faculty existed!! Very cool though, congrats! And I’m happy that this thread has helped you…that’s why I made it!

I knowww! I hate how expensive it is, but my parents still said it was okay. So excited!

Okay, thanks. Very helpful! I think I will be just fine in Bachelor of Science then. Is everyone applying to housing already? I don’t know much about it. What are the options for freshmen? Do you know who gets first choice? Is it a matter of who sends in their requests first because I believe the deadline is May 1st for housing. Any advice?

I applied for housing same time i applied for the school lol. So that was back in January. I really hope they hold preference to people out of province, better yet, out of country. Thats one of the few cons of UBC, that after 1st year its hard to get housing.

Good news, Ive broken through to my dad about UBC, yess, now just gotta clear some things up in live chat and should be all good

Freshman are in totem park or place vanier, and international students have guarentee housing during their first year.

Congrats on the breakthrough yellowapple! That’s so awesome! Has he been to the school yet? Cause if not, you should take him to check it out. It’s just suuuuuch an amazing place, you cab practically feel it when you’re on campus! I probably sound insane, but that feeling that a school is juuust right is exactly how I feel about ubc. :)

and now I love this school even more, as they gave me a $7500 scholarship in addition to the $500 I got when I was accepted. It so sick, I looove this place! :D

I got accepted to the Sauder School of Business. Got the $500 scholarship thingy too. It’s my first choice, so I’ll probably be going there. I have never been to Canada before, but simply fell in love after the applicant information event last month. I submitted my application early March and got my decision April 13th.

Do all international students get the OIS $7500 award? Because I did and so did my friend…

Congrats zeesha!! Sauder is so comptative annnd you heard so quickly, wow!! that’s awesome.

Nah, I’ve talked to people that didn’t get the 7500 and are non-Canadian citezins/residents. Guess we got lucky?! Haha :)

I didn’t get the 7500, but getting in is a great accomplishment to me as my academic stats aren’t too great.

Holden - Thank you  When the UBC Representatives came to my country and did the applicant events they told me that Sauder only had a 7% acceptance rate so I still feel very lucky xD Congrats to you for getting in too! I have been silently following this post xD

Thanks zeesha! &You know, I’m sure that you totally deserved your acceptance as well! :D!

What country are you from?

…and just a little sidenote, I LOVE how international UBC is! It’s just amazing, having the opportunity to spend four or five years in a global microcosm…not many other universities allow for that experience! :D

And hey! My best friend got in today. She doesn’t go on CC, but let’s congratulate her in spirit, haha!

holden - I’m from Indonesia  Thanks, I’m pretty sure it was because of my CAS+student council that I got accepted. Maybe we can meet on campus in the future! Will you be joining Jump Start?

and Congratulations to your best friend!

zeesha88 im going to sauder too… im pretty stoked about it… BC BUD!!

anyone planning on getting a bicycle? looks like canadian drivers license requirements make it a long process…a few months at the least…

thisismyhandle - Sweet, congrats to you! Maybe we’ll take the same classes xD

I’m planning on getting a bicycle! That or the renting system.

Oh wow! I hear Indonesia is beautiful! That’s awesome. But anyway yeah I’m totally doing jump start, I wanna get to school as soon as possible! I plan on bringing a bike, but I’m bringing my longboard too. It’s a very longboardable campus! :)

Its official, i am going to UBC, woot, i didnt want to say anything until I was for sure.

So, does anyone known when housing assignments are given out, I believed this to be mid august until reading some boards on facebook where people expected them around now, is there a reason to, do they give assignments this early?

holden - Not really, the capital is quite a mess xD Way too overpopulated. And that’s cool! I’m doing jump start too!!

yellowapple - That’s great  I think housing assignments are given out after the deadline so hopefully May-July!

What is this OIS scholarship any details plz esp bout application, requirements, etc. A link on UBC’s website will also help… Thnx

Thanks holden, hopefully I won’t have to wait too long!

How are decisions announced?

YAAAAAAY yellowapple! So stoked for you, that’s awesome! See you next year forsure now!!! Not entirely sure when housing announcements come out, but I feel like the people at the info session said that registration and housing begin in like, late june…

Aw! Well, in regards to Indonesia, I was talking more about the general environment, like the plants and scenery and stuff…haha, I don’t know about the socio-political situation there. But still, cool place to come from!

The OIS scholarship is dependent on how good your grades and extracurriculars are. You’re only eligible if you’re not a canadian rez or citizen. They e-mail you a message telling you that you got it, if you get it, and I’m pretty sure it’s in addition to the $500 presidental entrance scholarship so like, if you don’t have that one then I don’t think you’ll get the $7500 OIS scholarship. It’s nonrenewable and nonrefundable, but hey, every little bit helps! And it’s super awesome getting something tangible like money from something abstract like grades and work! Woohoo!!

Annnnd decisions are announced first on the SSC under “application status”, and later by mail if you’re accepted. The online decision pops up anywhere from a week to a month before they send the acceptance letter, so don’t check the mailbox, check the inbox!

yeah, im so excited, i have to save up for school, so probably cant do jumpstart, will have to wait but i checked the virtual tour, and im too excited now that I know ill be going here’s the link for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet
