@nursimha you already got into SD and I think you stand a good chance with the others. I think their hesitations aren’t so much ECs as much as so many AP exams over courses. They will take a real course over AP any day. But you’re a 4.0 and hopefully you have some solid math classes under your belt.
@81Mamba That’s only true for L&S. For many other colleges, you have to declare during CalSo (orientation day before the 1st semester starts). For example, CNR has that policy.
One year is not any more difficult to transfer than two years. It all depends if you are able to complete the major prerequisites and GE. Some guys with lot of AP’ credits can get many GE’s out of the way and transfer in 1 year as a junior transferee.
UCs will still give preference to a two year transfer who has fulfilled the requirements through classes rather than using AP credit. Also getting a 4.0 for one semester doesn’t mean much compared to getting a 4.0 for three semesters for a two year transfer.
Can someone chance me? I don’t think I’ll get in, but I do feel like I have random odds in my favor. Plus rhetoric isn’t impacted isn’t it? Be brutal, won’t take it personally.
In-State
Major: Rhetoric
Prereqs: Done
GPA when applied: 3.56
GPA on update: 3.67
IGETC: yes
Personal Statements: 9/10
E.C.s: very minimal
-Been working full time since I was in high school
-GPA upward slope: Literally went from B’s and 1 C for 2 quarters to straight A’s for 6 quarters in a row after that
@h95130f when did Cal start giving degrees in Sophistry? hahahah
@lindyk8 If you apply to the EECS major with a few extra math classes than required, do you think that whoever makes the decision would look at that favorably?
I didn’t state on my application that I want to declare a dual major once I transfer, should I have? I figured I shouldn’t because that increases my potential to stay an extra semester or so.
@deepThinking25 yes, I believe they would, especially if you got good grades.
@outherhaven Lol. That’s the real question.
Anyone have a copy of the provisional contract for UCB?
If you get in, what GPA do you need for your last semester at CC? A 3.0?
@StaticRoar On another forum I saw a few weeks ago they said the worse you could do would be 2 Cs. I’m not sure this is right though, but I couldn’t find anything on Berkeley’s website. I’d say keep it safe and at least try to maintain a B average
@StaticRoar I was a UC Berkeley transfer student MANY years ago, and I was told to maintain at least a 3.2 in my last semester. I have no idea if that is still true.
Everyone gets a different conditional agreement
Indeed. While it took for 3 years to eventually apply due to personal issues and multiple major changes, I completed around 70 units in one academic year, opening myself up to multiple majors of interest, with a GPA of 3.8 as well, all while working 30-40 hours a week between two jobs, while also interning as an RA at UCLA and committing about 8-10 hours per week of volunteer work on the side. Sure I slept about 2-3 hours a night, and I never had a second to enjoy life between my obligations, but that was the choice I made and I will only regret it if Berkeley rejects me lol.
I’ve never heard of an RA being considered an “internship”
I had held two positions in separate departments. One was a research assistantship, while the other was an research internship. The internship was way more work, and I was performing the same tasks as the undergraduate RA’s. The only reason I was considered an intern for one of the projects is because I wasn’t a UCLA student, but the other project I worked on did not have that condition even though it was also at UCLA.
@Staticroar yes, you’ll need a 3.0 but they sometimes put restrictions on specific classes, so for some of your classes you’ll have to get a B regardless of the overall semester GPA (usually basic core classes for the major or very unique core classes towards the major).
I’m glad to see some of you from the UCLA transfer forum here too.
Will someone chance me for Cal?
GPA: 4.0
IGETC completed
Transferable units: 68.7 (2.7 from AP)
AP Tests: 5 on AP Psychology (I also took AP Calc and AP English Lit but messed around and didn’t pass)
Pre Reqs: Completed through Assist, except 1 course IP right now
Major: Psychology
ECs: Intern for a Law office dealing with Political Asylum Cases, Intern for a Domestic Violence non-profit, year-round Lifeguard, Year-round swim instructor
Extra considerations: High school extracurriculars and community service
I am also TAP certified for UCLA, meaning I’ve completed the honors program through my CC
Essays: I had CC/SDSU professors and some other UC students revise them, including my older sister (a UCLA alum). I really elaborated on my internships and how it relates to my major and then my struggles dealing with community college and transferring.
Applied;UCLA, UCB, UCSB
Accepted; UCSB (haven’t heard from UCLA or UCB yet)
