@CaptainCal Thank you for your input. I think you are 100% correct. I was unsure of where I wanted to transfer because I truthfully did not even know if I could make it in college, and then when I started to become a pretty good student, I then did not know if I would remain competitive after taking courses like ochem, physics, etc. I just didn’t have the confidence back then that I do now, so my course-planning was a bit all over the place.
I really want to major in math here. I applied here during my senior year of HS, got rejected( but different major though). This time around I hope they see that I genuinely love math and took that to account when they reviewed my app
Is rhetoric impacted at cal?
@h95130f you mean Sophistry? No
I’ve heard rhetoric is more difficult to get into than philosophy, but that’s just what I’ve heard, it probably isn’t accurate. @h95130f
Is nutritional science hard to get in? I am so nervous cuz the transfer rate for it was 13.2% at 2012. My over all GPA is 4.0 but I don’t have a lot of ECs just volunteer here and there. My PS is 7/10 I think. I have 3 pre-req in progress which are 13 unit totally. Do I have any chance to get in?
@spenceyboi - Could you post your stats/Ec’s etc if you dont mind?
I’m a second year student at Foothill community college.
GPA: 3.982 on 84 quarter units including Fall 2014 grades, 123 quarter units total by transfer not including AP
Prereqs: All done in my first year
Breadth Recommendation: Completed in Fall 2014
ECs: Probably my strong point. Got a job as a marketing director for a ecommerce startup that managed to raise a few million dollars in their first funding round. Hundreds of community service hours. Began an investing club with friends (not a club based in school, but I gathered a group of friends to pool together our money and invest). Boyscouts, cello, awards, etc.
Personal Statements: My Haas specific one was definitely by far and away my best. I spoke about a phrase my dad told me when I was young that always stuck with me. My major personal statement was kind of a shot in the foot for the other UCs, but I went all out for Haas and explicitly stated that my love was for Business Administration and did not talk about Economics at all so it was nice of UCLA to still admit me for BizEcon.
Haas has always been my number one choice ever since I did my college tour and visited Haas itself including Harvard, UPenn, and other schools. I simply love the environment and I asked a random student there a few questions and he ended up telling me a huge amount about Haas. Loved Haas ever since.
Wow. You are sure to get in Spencey.
Your EC’s and GPA are right on the money. If your Haas essay is as good as you say (which I have no doubt), it will be hard for Haas to deny you.
All the best to you.

@HumbleTeen , if we both get in, lunch is on me! Good luck to you.
who wants to start a Philosophy Acceptance betting pool?
Everyone’s GPA is just…

Hello, everyone. I just got accepted to UCLA last night. These are my stats:
Major: English
GPA: 3.82
EC’s: Volunteered as a journalist for my school magazine, leader and co-founder of club on campus
IGETC: Completed
Prereqs: Done by Spring 2015 semester (last semester at CC)
Personal Statement: 1) I wrote about volunteering as a journalist for my school magazine and how I expressed my passion for English through this medium. 2) I wrote about reinventing my character/work ethic/mindset at a community college and how much I matured from my aloof high school days.
Applied: UCI, UCLA, UCB
Accepted: UCLA
Waiting: UCI, UCB
I’m really nervous for UC Berkeley (my dream school) because I heard that many people who get accepted to UCLA do not get accepted to UCB. I also heard that Berkeley has a really unique way of selecting its admitted students and that GPA is not everything… Waiting for next Friday!!! Good luck to all of us!!!
@spenceyboi my younger daughter wanted Haas but after a lot of research we kept finding that the focus seems to be banking/finance, so she’s kind of on the fence. Is that your take as well?
I actually spoke to a few people there and that is pretty true. I heard Haas is trying to give their students a more well rounded approach and have been recruiting more professors from other fields. @lindyk8
Hey guys! So I just got accepted to UCSD but was rejected from UCLA yesterday…sooooo I’m a little nervous about my Berkeley decision, as UCB is my first choice out of the three. I attended UC Davis my freshman year, and due to personal reasons had to come back home, so I enrolled in my local CC (I was not on academic probation at Davis–On the Dean’s List all 3 quarters)
Major: Media Studies
UC GPA: 3.72
Major GPA: 4.0
Pre-reqs: Currently finishing up the last one this semester
IGETC: certified
EC’s: Sales Associate job, PR/Marketing Internship, Dance, etc.
Personal Statements: Pretty good, spent a long time working on them
Honor’s Program
Does anyone know how impacted the Media Studies major is? Anyone have similar stats to mine or are in the same situation?
Just a little nervous about the decisions.
@Dancer581… not much advice except solidarity. I attended a private school as a Freshman then went to CC for this year with hopes of transferring to UCB, too, and got into UCSD but waitlisted at UCLA and so am also nervous about UCB now! My UC GPA is around a 3.75 (the private school I went to, Reed College, is a little weird with grades so I’m not 100% sure what UCs will consider my GPA to be), also IGETC certified and done with Pre-reqs by this semester. My personal statements were strong as well. I’m a Psych major. I’ve been reading a lot about how it’s not entirely uncommon for people to get rejected from UCLA but into Cal, but with admissions, everything seems so random that I just have no idea what to think. We’ll find out Friday, I guess :-S
so what time do u guys think UCB will be posting their admissions? 3pm?
I got rejected by UCLA last night. A little upset, but I’ll get over it. I’m really hoping to get into Berkeley!!! Okay so my stats:
Overal GPA: 3.34
Political Science Major
Major GPA 3.50
IGETC: All done
Major Prep for UC Berkeley: All done
EC’s: I am the Student Government President at my CC campus. I am also the Student Trustee at my campus as well. I worked with my campus’s administration and as well as the Community college district. We implemented gender netrual restrooms at our campus, which I worked with the campus with. I am also a math tutor on the side. I help students with remedial math and college level math.
My Personal Statement(PS) I talked about my passion for political science. I expanded more on what my duties were as President and student trustee. For my second PS I talked about how I am a frost generation student attending college and how one of my most biggest challenges in CC was math and how I overcame that and now I tutor students in math. Giving back to the community basically.
So we’ll see what do y’all think??
@polisci92 I think you have a good chance, especially if your personal statements were well written. Your ECs are pretty good, however… your gpa is low for UCB and I suppose UCLA. Poli sci is impacted though at UCLA and its not at ucb so I think you have a fair chance. Good luck
