Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

Hi everyone! I’m new to CC, but I’ve been stalking the forums recently as the 24th, and the impending Berkeley decisions, creep ever-closer (6 days!!). So, just for fun, can you guys chance me? I’m a second year at a small CCC, and I was actually accepted to Berkeley as a freshman, but was unable to attend due to personal reasons (which I discussed in the additional comments). Anyway, I only applied to Berkeley, and my intended major is Haas.

GPA: 3.96 on 69 semester units
Prereqs: Completed in Fall 2014

Breadth: Completing my final class now

ECs:
-President of official AGS honor society
-Treasurer of the Business Entrepreneurship Club
-VP/Co-Founder of the Literary Journal (small media-publication club)
-Played center-mid for a very competitive club soccer team throughout high school and my first year of community college
-Over 500 hours of community service (including a humanitarian mission trip to Honduras that was the inspiration for a startup that I am currently founding and a Big Brother mentors hip program at a private school that is associated with my church)
-Founder/CEO of an e-commerce based startup that is currently in its early stages, but is moving along quickly. Currently finishing up our graphics and our initial product line with various designers throughout LA
-Have bought/sold about 500 items on eBay throughout college which has given me about $10,000 in profit that I am now using to fund my business through its early stages until I start looking for venture capital
-Intern at a boutique consulting firm during the summers. I do prep for presentations, book travel for consultants, write up invoices/billing, and various technology management to ensure that everything is in order for the presentations.
-A couple of academic awards and one scholarship

Personal Statements: All three were very good, and since I only applied to Haas, I was able to integrate the Haas Defining Principles into 2 essays instead of just the Haas one. I have a very unique writing style that is based upon humor, and it ensures that that my personality comes across through the writing (which is lost on a lot of essays). It worked well when I was applying to colleges as a freshman as I was accepted to every college that I applied to (UCLA, Berkeley, USC, and Pepperdine). One was about my passion for entrepreneurship (and how I have pursued various ventures throughout my life - starting in Kindergarten), one was about growing up in the middle of nowhere, attending a Mennonite school, having a father as a pastor (and therefore being poor), my transition to California (and my dad’s new job as a business consultant), and how my has life changed but my goals/convictions are the same, and my final one was about my mission trip to Honduras, and how it inspired my social-entrepreneurship startup. All of them are very funny and filled with personality.

Haas is the only school that I am even applying to, as it is the only school that I am passionate about attending, and I made sure to let them know that in the essays.

@merpcollegelife yea Poli Sci at UCLA is extremely selective. And I was missing a prerequisite class for UCLA, that’s probably why. However, Poli Sci at Berkeley is not impacted. So we’ll see. They do this holistic review of the apps so hopefully mine stands out haha

Has someone apply for political economy? I have question about the IAS45 course requirement, shoudl I finished it before transfer( this spring), but this class only can betaken in UC berkeley.

Hey guys do you think I can get in?

Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.91
IGETC: done
ECs: math tutor, attended lots of tech workshops and hackathons and made several projects. i talked about both these things in my essays

it must be taken at UC B.

Is it before transfer or 1st semester attend to UCB?

After you get there in fall ^^^^

@polisci92 I think the holistic review will work in your favor  and the missing pre req at UCLA is probably one of the main reasons you didn’t get in! I’m considering double majoring in Poli Sci at UCB with Chinese that I originally only wanted to do so maybe I’ll see you next year at ucb

Hi, hi everyone!

Major: Political science
GPA: 3.93
Major GPA: 4.0
TAG: (Davis)
IGETC: yes Fall 2014
Pre reqs: done Spring 2015 (1 class on-line at a distant CCC as UCB advisor recommended)
EC’s: lots (student government, performing arts, work part time, founded campus club)
Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSB, UCSD
Accepted: UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCLA (w/TAP)

and . . . Pending: UCB

Similar to many others on this forum, I am extremely nervous for next Friday. I was very upset about being waitlisted to UC Davis. It didn’t help when I found out that only 23 people were admitted from the waitlist last year. However, I woke up this morning to a nice surprise from UC Santa Cruz informing me of my acceptance.

Overall GPA: 3.92
4 Year Out of State - Political Science
(I am a CA resident)
Major Prep and L&S for UC Berkeley: Will all be completed by the end of my Spring semester

EC + Personal Statements: I had the opportunity to go to UC Berkeley and have their admissions officers look over my transcripts, activities, and personal statements. The unanimous consensus was that those aspects were strong enough to be accepted into the institution. However, they also added in that it was a shame I wasn’t at a CCC since I loose priority. I was pretty upset at that point and even considered transferring into a CCC for my second semester… However, I ended up sticking with my current institution for the time being.

Applied: SCU, USC, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz
Waitlisted: UC Davis
Accepted: Santa Clara University, UCSC
Denied: None yet

How would you all chance me? I know UCLA released stats for OOS applicants accepted. Does anyone have an idea of how many are accepted to UCB?

@Outerhaven I got into UCLA with a 3.62 for philosophy; TAP certified (not sure of its impact at Berkeley); done with igetc/have taken logic and modern but not ancient (though on assist none of them are transferrable from my CC, so not sure how that will impact their decision); and am involved in an organization that’s trying to bring a piece of legislation to the UN for a year of global ceasefire. Would you bet on me Outerhaven?

So nerve wracking to wait for the Cal decision. I applied on a whim just to see if I’d get in or not, but the decision could honestly go either way.

Transfer GPA: 3.69 from a CCC. (A 3.63 overall due to a non-transferable math course.) However, I received a 4.0 last semester with a challenging course load, so hopefully the upward trajectory works in my favor.
California resident.
Major: Political Science.
Major GPA: 4.0
Major prep: All completed during Fall 2014.
IGETC: Certified & done by the end of this semester.

EC: Not a very lengthy list, but I concentrate a majority of my time on what I do participate in.
Part of the honors program at my college.
Member of PTK.
Director of Public Relations for my college’s ASBOD.
Political internship for a US Congresswoman, over 20 hours per week.
I also work part time, and during my first year at my CC, I was working over 25 hours per week.
Took a gap year after I graduated from high school so that I could build a college tuition fund. First generation college student.
Personal statement: 8-9/10. Most professors that I had read it only gave me a few criticisms and I altered my essays accordingly. My essays emphasized social justice and political involvement.

Applied: Northwestern University, U of Chicago, Loyola Chicago, UCSB, Cal.
TAG: UCSB.
Accepted: UCSB, Loyola Chicago.
Pending, NU, UChicago, Cal.

Good luck to all!

@Merpcollegelife hopefully I’m really looking forward in going

Who should we contact about our application if we don’t get in, and want to know why/where our application was weak?

Haas decision imminent.

Only 141 hours (better than 141 weeks IMHO) to go, since decisions will most likely be posted around 03:00 PM next Friday.

@CCCtransfer0613 Which Congressional district did you work in?

Berkeley has always been one of my dream schools; up there with Stanford.
As a 4-year transfer (from SCU), I thought I had no chance at all, and was pleasantly surprised to have been admitted to UCLA.

GPA: 3.9
Major: Economics (in my current school I am math/econ)
Major GPA: 4.0
Prereqs: all done!

Extra Curricular:
-research assistant
-academic tutor
-internships in high tech
-extensive experience in eCommerce and entrepreneurship

Essay on the nature of patterns in our data driven world and collaboration of research between academia, public and private sectors.
I had it reviewed and revised by a few professors and lawyers.

Applied: UCB, UCLA, UCSB
Accepted: UCLA, UCSB
Pending: UCB
Rejected: None

I’d love for someone to ‘chance me’.
Getting accepted to UCLA raises my hopes a little for Berkeley, but understandably Berkeley is probably much more competitive to get into (especially from another 4-year college).

So I was accepted to Davis via TAG. Waitlisted at SD, and flatout rejected from UCLA. Little bummed about the events of yesterday as I’m not sure what further implications it’ll have on the UCB decision. Hoping for the best this coming Friday. Good luck to the rest of you!

@MaMoi77 The 26th District!
