Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

Does anyone actually know when decisions come out?

@xtyphoon Decisions will be posted sometime in the evening on the 24th.

@Kamnnor812 I’ve been wondering the same thing! I applied for Rhetoric too & Cal is the last school I’m waiting for.
To be honest I think you have a great chance… I’m actually positive you’ll be accepted. From what I’ve gathered so far, Rhetoric isn’t an impacted major at all. UCLA is really, really, competitive so if you were accepted I’m sure that says a lot about your future with Cal. I made the mistake of applying to LA for Communications, but I’ve been accepted to UCSD, UCSB, UCD, and UCSC so I’m really hoping the odds are in my favor too.
But for the record, I would have picked UCLA over Cal in a heartbeat. Congratulations

Next friday

Hey everyone! Long-time lurker, and I’ve finally decided to post considering admissions are coming out this week.

Major: Middle Eastern Studies (Intent to double in either English or Rhetoric)
Overall GPA: 4.0
UCB TAP: Yes
IGETC: Complete by Spring 2015
Extra-Curr: To list a few: Fellow for a victorious state-senate campaign, Senator on school’s Associated Board, Volunteer for local Afghan-community events, Tournament Organizer for NorCal Super Smash Brother tournaments.
Personal Statements: One on drugs-rehabilitation & the other on capitalizing on the opportunity my parent’s have given me as war-refugees by returning back to the country they escaped from (and to aid in its socio-economic development). Have been told they were exceptional essays by multiple community college and Berkeley counselors.

1). Does anyone have any experience with the MES major? What are my chances of getting in?
2). How difficult is it to double in either English or Rhetoric? Can anyone speak for either of these majors?

Thanks ahead of time!

@CalWrestler well, the UCLA admits for MES had an average of a 3.33, with over a 40% admit rate (only 24 people applied, many of which had a low GPA the statistics suggest).

I would be incredibly surprised if you weren’t in.

Hello guys,

I completely ignored I had to submit a Reading and Composition paper from my current institution.
I will send it overnight today. Do you thing this will be an issue?

@yayyya I meant to pick another major, yes - but only if you are interested in another topic, don’t do it just because it sounds cool - it can screw up your GPA so think wisely. I picked MCB major as my second one just because I like neurobiology, but overall the classes are harsh and my GPA is bleeding (like most of us in UCB).

You can take lab units (up to 16 pass/no pass) towards your elective section (16/20). You can also overlap 2 upper dev classes b/w two majors, so overall you can do another major in a minor course load (3-4 additional classes). That’s what I did:
Neuro track has MCB 102, 104, 160, 161 and one elective (and physics 8B, but I take it anyway for med school), MCB 163/160L (but waived if you are involved in a neuro lab for a year on campus - this is true for many MCB tracks).

Physio & Metabolism track has: MCB 102 (crossed with neuro), MCB 104 as elective (crossed with neuro), NST 103, NST 160, NST 170, NST 190 and… you’re done. 16 units from your electives (3-4 units/semester) are lab (NST 199). So as you can see, it’s very much doable to do a double major in 2 years (you can also qualify for additional semester (5th) if you’re a double major.

Be aware that MCB GPA is one of the lowest on campus and I wouldn’t advice you to pick a major there unless you REALLY, but REALLY like it. Neuro for me is like a hobby so I like the classes because it’s interesting and I’m already in a lab at the same subject so I know much more than the average student at the class. Double majoring at Berkeley is pretty easy in terms of applying, you need one semester at the university with a 2.0 or greater GPA (or 3.0 not sure, but you’ll have 3.0 unless you take MCB 102 lol).

Is there a CAL transfer day peeps

@xtyphoon The evening of the 34th, probably around 4 or 5. Good luck!

comes out this friday, april 24th.

Can’t wait for this Friday!!! Cal is my dream school as I believe it must be for many in here.

Poli sci major!

accepted: UCLA, UCSD
Pending: UCB,UCSB

Anyone here know something about integrative biology? I applied for it because I thought molecular bio was more impacted.

@h95130f Thanks! Really you would choose UCLA ? If I get in, it’s going to be a really tuff decision. I have a toddler and I’m a single parent, so my family being in SoCal helps…Cal would be an honor and a tribute to all those wmoms out there trying to make it alone. Congrats to you also, you have a ton of options. Either way, we have bright futures ahead!

@UCLAme Yes, it’s usually a week or two after decisions are released. You’ll see it under you myberkeleyapp

@Tdlulo328 Both aren’t impacted. MCB is known for lower GPA, but it really depends on the track and student.

@Moshe1010 Thanks! I see. For low GPA do you mean it doesn’t require high GPA to get in or it’s hard to get high GPA in this major?

So Berkeley releases this Friday and I am extremely nervous because I got denied by UCLA:// ugh I hope I get in. Hiw are yall feeling?!?!

Got accepted into UCLA and waiting for UCB, would go to UCB if got in cos I live in North Cal Q^Q nervous too

90 hours to go…:frowning:

@Kamnnor812 Well congratulations & thank you! Good luck to you too. But yes, a million times yes I would have picked UCLA over Cal. You’re in a good place!
