To be honest, I’m not going to be very disappointed even if Berkeley rejects me. Firstly, my GPA is not competitive, and most importantly I already have UCLA acceptance letter! However, IF they giving me the opportunity to study in Cal, it’s going to be a real tough decision… I’m still surprised about UCLA’s decision because I have two Cs, 4 or 5 retakes, and a W… I don’t think Cal wants me but just calmly waiting for Friday evening!

Good luck to all of you!

Anyone here applying for the Chemical & Nuclear Engineering joint major? I wonder if its harder to get into the joint majors than the single ones.

honestly @wlasm15 i feel like anyone has a shot! Berkeley is so weird with their admissions process that anyone has a 50/50 chance on getting in haha

@Moshe1010 – Thanks for giving us information based on your Calso experience. This info helps future CNR/Nutritional Science applicants assess our chances (5+ better than 3). At last Saturday’s CAL DAY, I may have misunderstood the CNR Peer Advisor, who entered CAL as a Freshman. Perhaps, he didn’t attend a Calso for CNR.

@yayyya - Based on previous discussions, I am considering several majors including Nutritional Sciences. I still need to take OChem as well as Physics, which may further lower my GPA (currently 3.90, 52 units). How did you manage to ace OChem? Did you take OChem and Physics together?

Its a long shot
I know ppl with way better stats than me, so I know i’m not the best horse in this race

Major: Econ

IGETC: Nope! did da breadthzzzz
Pre Reqs: done this spring

ECs: clubs, voluteering, sports, etc…! also had a job as a waitress/cashier and an internship at hyundai in taiwan under the financial clerk

hehe wouldn’t be too bummed if i get rejected because i love the thought of going to UCSD! parents would probably force me to go here though if i do get in LOL

@Moshe1010 Thank you! It really helps a lot. I will pick another major or minor after doing some research. I have looked through all of the info that i can find online for Berkeley nutrition major but nothing helpful besides your advice. You are really nice and informative!

@LenoRang I attend Diablo valley college. According to assist.org, for the physics, i can either take a calculus based physics or a general physics with a calculus supplement. I chose the second one which was way easier.
Last semester I took my first Ochem. I spent all my time on it and I still had to drop my anatomy class because of it. So just don’t take other high credit class at the same time. Ochem is very time consuming. Also, pick the easiest prof if you can. I am taking my last Ochem this semester, anatomy and other 3 classes( Not for Cal). I just hope I can pass it. :frowning:

If you guys look back on the transfer threads for previous years, a lot of the GPAs admitted to Cal are less than perfect. Maybe we have a shot!

I wonder if Cal admits applicants based on their initial GPA when application is submitted, or based on the transfer update. Anyone know?

@h95130f all UCs only consider your GPA up until the fall quarter/semester is finished. i think the update is just a heads up for them to make sure you’re still on track for courses and maintaining the right gpa.

Anybody know the release time ? Evening on the east or west ?

last year it came out at 3pm PST. so hopefully it’s coming out then too

@yayyya If you’ll come here, you’ll learn that nobody is going to hold your hand/tell your anything useful unless you dig it very deeply and get it by yourself. It’s very different than community college since everything is much bigger and there are much more students. CNR is an exception since the college is small compared to others (L&S for example, which is a monster). You also get cool things in CNR like free printing and access to many things that others can’t. The more you “small talk” with your advisors, the more information you are going to get that is “off the table” - meaning, there are many solutions to each problem but they usually don’t disclose them since it involves lots of bureaucracy that they don’t want to deal with just because you asked (such as waiving classes based on different situations, receiving a permission to a semester with lower course (such as your last semester instead of taking BS classes) load and so on).

Take in account that UCB forces you to take at least 13 units every semester (L&S and CNR), so you have to be a full time student - these are also not the same units as in community college since a 2 unit lab class could be equal to two 4 unit lecture classes in terms of workload. The highest I’ve seen here is 4 units lecture classes and those usually require lots of time, so imagine how your schedule would look like with 13 units overall (or 18 in my case; 19.5 is the max allowed without special permission). You may meet some crazy people that are doing triple or quadruple majors with 30+ units/semester, but this is rare and mainly those who think it would help them in life, which in my opinion waste of time compared to doing practical things even socializing.

Take the minimum possible your first semester since it’s hard to adjust and don’t overkill yourself if you’re not going to do well the first semester -it known that first semester for transfers sucks and it’s also called “transfer shock” since everything is different and new, as well the level of education (I was pretty surprised how fast they are going here in lectures (50 slides in 50 minutes mmm…)). And honestly, unless you have no life, friends, and some sort of a genius, forget from having the same GPA as you had in CC. Honor student at CNR is 3.6, honor student at MCB is 3.5, so these are basically your 3.8-3.9+ equivalent in CC. Anything above 3.5 at UCB is very high.

Have any of you guys received the Regent’s email, or do those come out after (if) we get accepted?

After acceptance.

I wonder why this thread is so quiet, even less active than the waitlist threads lol.

Sad and glad to see that no one else has heard about their transfer status to UCB yet - I’m in the same boat and am anxiously awaiting 4/24. I am a little worried as UCB’s transfer adviser told me that only one person reviews an application now and determines acceptance for that student, instead of up to three people reviewing an application as they did in the past. I’m hoping that whomever reviewed my application was feeling generous!

I got into UCLA already, but like some other posters, I’m based in Nor Cal and would love to stay here and attend UCB.
