@h95130f the thing is, it’s not about the major, it’s the Dept. Rhetoric is in the Arts and Humanities Dept, they have the highest admit rate, when compared to say Social Science. We won’t be admitted to the major technically, but to the Dept. That’s how I understood it from my TAP advisor. It makes sense, there isn’t any prerequisites for Rhetoric on Assist, you have to take Rhetoric 10 or something at Cal before you can declare the major.
I would just wait, Lucas
@lindyk8 thx a lot. Have a good night and if u r waiting for decision from Berkeley like I do, I wish u the best!

a little too soon… but how are Cal and UCLA different regarding living expenses (housing, grocery, parking,…). Sorry I’ve never been to CA xD.
@lucaszz any reason in particular to why are you transferring out of UCSD? I am thinking of going to UCSD for engineering even if I get accepted to Cal.
@gac146 it’s actually more out of personal reasons, although Cal was my dream school as always. UCSD is a great school, especially for engineering and bio.
Wow, my stupidity is astounding. I accidentally input one class wrong for an extra 3 units, and have about 15 units worth of classes I’ve dropped recently or am no longer planning to take over the summer (I tend to add 5 classes to drop one, really dumb idea to put them all down).
In reality I will have 107 quarter units by the end of summer, but my mistakes put me at 125, which is 5 over the unit cap for inter-campus transfers.
What an ideal time to realize this haha. Guess I’m set to appeal.
Good luck everyone!
@ hbui7626 it all depends on where you live. My gf attends Cal. She was originally renting a room in Rockridge which sits on the edge of Berkeley and Oakland. Really wealthy community and friendly neighborhood. 1 bed + shared bath = 850 including utilities. Her groceries were about 300 a month, transportation was about 150. She now lives in an apartment complex close to campus and pays about the same, but she doesn’t have to drive or use public transportation. At UCLA, rent can obliterate your budget. It can follows like this: If you live within 3 miles of campus, rent = 12-1500+. About 5=1000-1300. About 10=800-1000. About 15=650-900. These are single room prices, possible private bath. Food = about 200 if you know how to search for deals. Transportation can make a big dent and depends heavily on where you live, but having living in Culver City, Santa Monica, and Downtown LA, you can expect about 200-300 if you are using a car, 35-50 if using the bus (I think monthly passes have increased; was 35). I would say the cost of having fun is about the same, maybe 200-400$. All in all, I think a budget of 2000 is sufficient and flexible. 1500 means you have to budget properly. Anything less and you should apply for food stamps or get used to Food Pantries, which actually are a great resource from my experience. You get great options, usually organic, some fresh foods and some prepared. Where I went to in my time of dire need, the pantry got their donations from Trader Joes and Sprouts. I would be allowed to take as much as I wanted. People came with shopping carts!
@Kamnnor812 That was helpful, thank you! I actually didn’t know that. Ahhhhh fingers crossed. I’m so borderline that it’s terrifying!
@hbui7626 @CaptainCal, for some reason I thought rent in Berkeley was more expensive, but I guess I was wrong. I checked, though, and the bus pass for UCLA students seems to be $33/quarter, although that might just be for the Big Blue Bus.
One more day. I am feeling the nerves:) O:-)
Can’t believe tomorrow is the day! I know I won’t get accepted but I’m still excited for all of you and can’t wait to read the posts of joy!!! /
@QueSeraSera04 - You never know with UCB since they supposedly do a holistic review. I have seen students with high GPA’s being rejected and lower GPA being accepted. If your essays and EC’s are really good, then you do stand a chance.
@soda4schrodinger You should tell them what happened today. Right now. They may tell you nothing can be done at this late hour but I think it benefits your appeal to show you proactively tried to deal with this to the best of your ability.
My anxiety got peak! lol why did you waitlist me UCLA
tell me about it. I also got waitlisted and I feel like I’m a borderline candidate for UCB. I hope they like my essay and EC’s.
@reygun Just emailed them. I really appreciate the advice, being that I’m quite a bit lost at this point.
It’s a bit ironic; I was so careful about prerequisites and UC reciprocity, and yet I overlooked such an important factor. I was prepared for potential rejection, but I never quite expected it would be this.
@soda4schrodinger - Don’t worry about it. Hopefully, It will all work out.
Mistakes happen and it is not the end of the world.
Try emailing them at freshmanadmit@berkeley.edu or amygoodman@berkeley.edu. I got a response in one day to a transcript question.
