Official UC Berkeley Haas Transfer Thread 2017

@enpz45 I tagged with UCSB for Econ & Accounting, hope we both get good news tomorrow!

@enpz45 @williamyang I saw that we all got into UCSB for Pre-Econ and Accounting. Congrats B-)

@williamyang @jonathaanv Hopefully a sign of things to come and congrats

I’m a California CC student that got selected for an interview. Should I be concerned about my chances? I’ve heard that it’s mostly for borderline applicants, but I was looking at a post where someone was saying that they interviewed applicants who had a good shot of getting in. Don’t think that’s true, but he seemed to believe it. My brain is racing and I’m a bit scared so if anyone could shine light about the interview process and what not I’d really appreciate it. Thanks…

Edit: saw /u/jonathaanv’s post but would still love more info.

@okokokokok123 I would take it as a sign that they ARE reviewing my app and that’s a good thing. If you’re borderline then they didn’t just throw your app straight into the rejected pile. I’d also look at it as an opportunity to separate myself from the other pool of applicants. Good luck on your interview! I think we always see chance threads or asking if this or that will “make me or break me”, however I think this will make you or break you. Keep us posted!

I’ll get back to you in about a week about how it went. Thanks for your input.

@okokokokok123 yes, take that as evidence that you’re still in the running! It might depend on your stats/essays whether you’re in the borderline applicant pool. What was your GPA?

Ughhh now that we know fersure that they’ve begun reviewing applications it makes me a bit nervous.

@williamyang 4.0

@okokokokok123 Best of luck on the interview!

@okokokokok123 know the defining principles like your life depends on it, start preparing answers about how you relate to one of them and basically sell whatever you had on your application like a used car you want to get rid of!

You got this! I’d be excited to be selected for an interview, although we don’t know what it’s for, it means you’ve got a shot to make your case for Haas stronger! Like @enpz45 said, this will most likely make or break you.

To all, please keep in mind that just because you don’t get an interview doesn’t mean you will not get in! There have been accepted Haas applicants in the past that have been accepted without one

@okokokokok123 are you an international student? It seems like interviews are mostly for international students (but not all). I know someone who got in last year after interviewing with regents. So I mean I’d definetly take the interview as as a good sign.

CCC student baby! Yeah I haven’t found a real consensus on domestic interviewees.

I was asked for an interview as well (not an international student). I’m confused too! I would assume it’s for borderline applicants- as the email states that sometimes additional information is needed to understand the aspirations of a student.

Reposting what I posted a few pages ago with a few edits for clarity:

" From what I’ve gathered from talking to my TAP counselor, a friend who applied to Hass last year, and my contact at Haas, interviews are mostly for borderline applicants/applicants that they want to talk to to clear things up [sort of the same thing I suppose].

According to the people in the loop, if you had an EC or additional comment on your application or supplemental update that they may want you to expand on, they’ll ask questions. They may also ask questions to get an idea of who you are and if you match up with what you put on you application.

Treat it like a normal interview! My buddy was asked if he knew the defining principles and to pick one that he can expand on using personal experience. Another question was like “why Haas” etc. He applied with a 3.4 and got called. He had strong essays but didn’t know jack about the 4 principles and bombed the interview lol.

[TO ALL LURKERS AND PEOPLE WHO MAY READ THIS LATER] Start preparing some kind of answer in advance and know about Haas’s principles: question the status quo, student always, confidence without attitude, and beyond yourself "

Like @williamyang said, not all who got in had interviews. I actually know someone at Haas right now who didn’t get one from last year’s thread.

I also got an email today saying they want an interview with me.

I am not so sure if they will just ask questions regarding my essays to make sure I wrote them myself, or they will ask more general questions about business or Haas? I heard for L&S interviews, they hire some agency to conduct the interviews. Some ppl who went through the interview last year told me alumni and professors will be the ones conducting interviews at Haas instead.

Can anyone one of you guys contribute to what questions that they might ask?

People say a lot of things and most don’t really know. It’s very possible the people interviewing you don’t have access to your application (and essays), and they’ll just ask questions and share their feelings on you as candidate to the admissions team.

I’d say to not look too much into it and just prepare yourself.

You guys got interview from ucb?

@zsshar it looks like 3 students received interview requests for haas.
