Oh I don’t know what the television program ‘Dr. Who’ is. I’m an East Asian student studying in Canada. Canada is much more different than what some Americans may think even though they are bordering next to each other. Canada is U.S-conscious and feels rivalry (unlike what most Americans think), so we often have no idea what’s going on at South.

^Uh. no.
I’m from Canada and I can say that we’re very similar to Americans. American culture is extremely prevalent in Canada. The only difference is that we have free health care and crappier tv that we don’t really watch because we watch American shows.
I would say most Canadians follow American culture/ media/ politics way more intensely than Canadian culture, because Canadian culture is quite boring. A lot of people discuss what is going on in the South, and most of the newspapers and stuff discuss a lot of what’s going on over there.

seriously, UChicago, if you are reading this, just send us the decision date already!!! I’ve never procrastinated this much in my life from checking college confidential!!!

I’ve been to U.S last summer for a business program and it had completely different atmosphere. True, Canadians watch lot of american shows and musics because they hardly have their own, but the culture itself, influenced by unique social structure and environment, is radically different. Meh, most Canadian students were interested in their own politics which I don’t have much knowledge about apart from Harper’s government. Commercialism is much more dominant in U.S but in Canada, a much more socialist state in comparison to U.S, doesn’t have its own aspect apart from boring lives. I don’t live in metropolis, so I don’t know their stories, but in my city, people don’t really watch TVs except for sports and maybe Cartoon but rather play sports, computer games, or just chill. It’s definitely different from American.

Apart from Pop culture, Canadians don’t really give much attention to U.S in my experience. There aren’t much fun things going on which is partly attributed to ridiculous tax charge. Canadian students are hardly inclined to go to prestigious universities except for some British such as Oxbridge, imperial college. They tend to mind their own business.

That’s because you’re isolated on the island. In the mainland, there are a lot of students who want to go to prestigious universities.

My friend says the decision date is the 19th on the U Chicago website.

for this year? because the 19th was the decision date last year.

Yeah I think your friend stumbled upon a post on the uncommon blog from last year

Doesn’t Chicago typically release their EA results later than most others? Like late December?

Man, have you guys seen what is going down in the Columbia thread?

And we are over here chatting about Canadian/American culture and Doctor Who (Tennant for the win!).

High five, guys, for keeping it not only civil, but fun.

:D

Sunshinerocks, we’re just as interested in good universities on the Island! My S’12 is at UChicago and D’13 would like to go! Also both serious Dr Who fans! They saw some of the really old Dr Who’s when visiting Grandparents some years ago! They got hooked on Red Dwarf at the same time! :)

Wait, I looked for the Columbia thread but there’s a bajillion of them. Could you link us to the crazy Ivy drama? I need a destresser, lol.

Actually, some students applying for UChicago already found out their admissions decisions. He probably applied for Questbridge though.
