my unweighted GPA was about 3.68 (out of 4.0), and my weighted was 4.81 out of 5.33(roughly), and the bottom of the first decile is 4.85. I talked about the cover of the old N*Sync album "No Strings Attached" in response to the string essay; the essay was about the symbolism of marionettes.

somebody was admitted early with a 27. What were your SAT scores, if you took it? I think that test is a little more important, and a good score would certainly override a mediocre score on the ACT.

[ *] Essays: very, very good. my Plato/Play-doh essay was particularly good, followed by my Why UChicago one. My Favorite Things essay wasn’t as good, but I managed to tie all my favorite things, including the mundane ones, into a solid theme.
[ *] Teacher Recs: very good. one from my sophomore honors english teacher who i visit once a week and who gives me books to read and review. one from my junior honors physics teacher- only B I received on my transcript, an 88% that i have never worked so hard for in my life. also a supplemental from my junior varsity/assistant varsity coach describing my hard work and determination in everything.
[ *] Counselor Rec: don’t really know, but i expect it was good.
[ *] Hook (if any): essays and teacher rec’s were definetly the best parts of my applications.

I don’t know about your chances, but I doubt that it was N’Sync. I was accepted, and mine included reference to how dreamy I thought Jesse McCartney was and how much I loved Disney Princess movies and why.
