what percentage of freshmen end up on North Campus?

Do you think I’d have a good chance at getting a dorm in either central campus or the hill? I’m going to be transferring as a sophomore for the winter semester 2010, and I’d rather not be on north campus (im in LSA, not engineering). I’m hoping for one of the quads.

Also, from what you guys know, what would be a good dorm for a transfer student (ie non-freshman). My goal right now (socially) is to meet some people and hopefully get an apartment for my junior year.

rkgotitans, I believe about 50% of freshman get placed on North, 15-20% are put in Markley (on the Hill), and everyone else is sprinkled in Central and other Hill dorms.

TofuTitties, I believe that non-freshman have a choice of living wherever they want, even transfer students.

I was just wondering, where is the Hill located? Is it a part of central campus?

Also, do sophomore+ Engineering students usually live on North because that’s where they probably take the majority of their classes, or do they choose to live on central to be at the heart of the University? o_O

Sophmore+ engineers usually are at North Campus because that’s where most of their classes are.

^ Ah okay, thanks!

What are the best dorms in North campus? And does anyone know the actual distance between North and Central campus? I’ve heard lots of different numbers =[

If you’re looking for travel time, I’d say it’s about a 10 minute bus ride. If you actually want the distance between the two campuses, I suggest looking on Google Maps.

The hill dorms are really nice, if not better than quads…i live literally like 5 minutes from it. lol its just outside of downtown ann arbor, but not as far as north campus!

I went inside a quad dorm during my tour of central campus (not sure which quad) and it seemed really small…

“The hill dorms are really nice, if not better than quads…i live literally like 5 minutes from it. lol its just outside of downtown ann arbor, but not as far as north campus!”

Not sure what you mean exactly. The Hill dorms are a good mile from downtown. It would take 5 minutes by car to get there.

I personally love Bursley, so I’d say that’s the best dorm on North. Then Baits II, then Baits I, which is basically in Canada.

The Hills are made of different dorms of varying quality. The MoJo cafeteria is one of the best on campus (along with Bursley’s), but Markley is one of the jankiest dorms in my opinion (although my friends love love love it).

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about housing. You get to choose either Central, North (Bursley), and North (Baits), not specific dorms on Central. You don’t have a great say in it, so might as well take what you get. Most students move to off-campus housing anyway after their freshman year.

S. lives on hill and loves it. It only takes him a few minutes to get to Central campus. RKJ if you mean Main St., indeed, longer. Suspect students are thinking more like N. University from Hill : )

Avoid Baits at all costs. There’s nothing wrong with Bursley.

What are the ranks for just the quads??

Does it go something like South, East, North, then West?

Well, North isn’t even open yet, so I dont think it could be rated yet-- though I bet it will be well ranked with the suite style dorms and AC and wireless.

South I would definitely guess is first. I like East Quad better than West Quad, but the EQ cafeteria is really not popular-- but West Quad’s cafeteria has goofy hours and there isn’t an elevator. So between the two I’m not sure how it balances out. I’d rather live at EQ and eat someplace else the days the cafeteria isn’t serving anything I like, personally.

Yeah I heard Baits was terrible.

if you lived on hill how long of a walk is it to the quads?

I really wouldn’t worry about housing - i’ve lived here for 10 years and I’ve never had a problem getting anywhere quickly using the blue bus and the ann arbor bus system.

Ann arbor is an awesome place. y’all will see that soon enough. We have really good food.

on my wolverine access under student orientation center, it says something about an online math placement exam. Do I have to complete this online, and how would I know when I should take it by?

yeah i was wondering about those tests also…can anyone help explain??
