Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2012 Transfer Thread

Thanks!!! That helps a lot!

Thanks BruinsJews!

Can you create a Onyen even if you haven’t committed to UNC?

It is very likely that you can. Give it a try at onyen.unc.edu. They didn’t allow me to create a Onyen before the decisions are posted. However, since you are already accepted, you need a Onyen account to see your financial aid information, which might be an important factor for you to decide whether to attend or not.

You can create an onyen even if you haven’t accepted the offer and paid the deposit as long as the school has already accepted you. I made mine, and I ahven’t accepted/declined yet.

What is an onyen?

Guys anyone else NOT have their financial aid info posted yet? i sent mines in during january and its still “processing”. should i be worried ? i am going to call them tomorrow

I don’t either. Hopefully it will updated by tomorrow.

Here’s the message UNC posted on MyUNC:

“Welcome to the Student Center! Your access profile will be updated by tomorrow and you will be able to see the items that are missing now. In the interim, you can make payments by clicking the ‘Make a Payment’ hyperlink on the main Student Center page.”

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted. I transferred to UNC last fall as a Junior and remembered that notifications came back around this time a year ago. Anyway, I was able to pick up a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom house in a great location last week and need to find a roommate.

I’ve been watching this house for a while and finally got the owner to open it up for lease. Total lease is 1200 per month plus utilities (600 per person), but this is a steal. The house across the street is 1-bedroom, 1-bath and rents for 1800 plus utilities a month, and most houses in the area are 800+ per person, per month. Lease runs May 2012 - May 2013

The address is 309 Church Street if you want to look it up on Google maps. It’s a corner lot with a backyard big enough to fit at least 4 cars. It has a 10ft fence all the way around and a big covered front porch.

The house has a full kitchen, refrigerator, washer, and dryer.

I’m a 21 year old male, majoring in Econ and planning on law school after graduation. I don’t go out all the time but I do like to have fun when the work is done.

I emailed you.

Also,

I got this when I look at Fin Aid

Financial Aid

Select Aid Year to View

There is no financial aid information found.

Does that mean that they never got my info??

Guys, what is an Onyen?

And also, how is everyone going to deal with transfer shock?
I heard that it can be hard the first semester t get a high GPA. I saw a news clip that transfer students are less likely to graduate.
I’m kind of nervous now. I don’t want my GPA to go down.

Onyen is the account for your directory information, email account, class registration. Basically permanent system credentials.

Re: transfer shock. Surrounding myself with focused, like-minded people. Having priorities but also having fun, too. I tend to not worry about the GPA number and rather look at classes as individual challenge.

@seafood I’ll be in touch, for sure. Not 100% on UNC yet. Still have to hear from others. Only 2 other schools rank above UNC on my list and the Interdisciplinary Studies major I applied to allows me great flexibility with what I want to study. Not to mention I wouldn’t mind going to some ACC basketball games during the year:)

Hey, does anyone know if transfer students are required to do the summer reading?

Can I make an Onyen account even if I end up NOT going to UNC?

if you guys don’t mind me asking what made you want to transfer into this school so bad? I see guys coming from places like Georgetown and other good schools?

what is it about this school?

seems like the best place for a complete college experience

@rockstar the major I applied for. The fact that I can make my own education, the college experience as beast said. I come from a school where there are a bunch of local kids - everyone enrolled I went to HS with - I enjoyed the fact that UNC is selective but larger too.

UNC also has a close bond with Native American tribes, a population I hope to work with. This is one of but a few colleges in the nation that has this.

UNC also has something called CSTART. I like the idea of a community of learners.

is anyone else from out of state?

new york resident israeli here

Connecticut!
