Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

@52895uf‌ Raleigh, und dir?

@IchHeiseBilhelm‌ Ich auch! Aber meine Familie kommt aus Europa

has anyone heard anything yet? does anyone have any idea about when they will be released?

I got the update email at 8pm last night so I wonder if it would be around the same time…

Will they also send out an email or do I just have to refresh MyCarolina?

I’m pretty sure it comes on MyCarolina first. According to last year of course… It can always change.

My decision crashed through my roof, attached to an asteroid. At least I got it! ;)

I believe the decisions come out on MyCarolina first, and perhaps a blog update to follow. Were applicants last year notified by email that decisions were now available?

@KingofSweden Unfortunately, prior applicants weren’t notified when decisions were released. Given how the admissions department has handled this in the past, I would expect the decisions to be up between 3 and 4:30 PM today.

Did anyone else apply to the Journalism school?

Also, we won’t be notified! I think this might be an attempt to avoid the site crashing

I keep refreshing my page constantly! Can’t hang on much longer!

@uncjschool I know someone in my group who applied to the J school and another girl from last year who also applied. It seems like you sort of just get admitted as an undergraduate in Arts & Sciences and then you sort of just take classes in the J school. It sounded really seamless.

@Lpetrichor‌ yeah I met with one of the undergraduate deans and he pretty much kept repeating “3.0 gpa” several times. I also noticed on their website they admit anyone currently at UNC with a 3.1 gpa so I’m hoping it takes the same sort of requirements for transfers!

@ciciecho I am also transferring out of a LAC

@uncjschool I’m applying to the J school for Fall 2015, but would you mind giving your stats? Particularly if you have any journalism related EC’s? Also do you go to a 4yr or CC?

@NCXfer‌ Sure. I go to a 4 year university. I just recently switched my major to journalism, previously a chemistry major. That said, my gpa is on the lower end as sciences are difficult. I have a 3.3 gpa but got an A in my journalism class last semester and I’m only enrolled in journalism courses this semester. I write for my university’s newspaper and have been for a year. I also was a high school newspaper editor as well as yearbook.

Thoughts? I am hoping the J School has seen that my gpa is based solely on science courses and that I am promising in the field of journalism, as that is where I’m applying.

Also- my school is very similarly ranked to UNC

anyone heard anything?

Ah. I think you have a good chance. You know though that journalism work done at your previous school won’t count towards your journalism degree at UNC, right? But anyway, I don’t think they will focus on the sciences too much in your decision. I read somewhere that UNC doesn’t mind if you try something out of your comfort zone and don’t do too well on it. Best of luck!

wait @NCXfer does that rule only apply to journalism students or do all classes from your major not transfer to UNC??

@NCXfer‌ Right, I did know that! I had already completed all my other general requirements, and the courses I’m taking this semester are more to show that I’m in the major as well as to be sure this is what I want to do!

I know that anyone currently at UNC who applies to the J School automatically is accepted with a 3.1, so I’m viewing that as the J School’s determined “good GPA”. And I’m thinking that since I have gotten involved with the paper, that shows involvement since that’s a huge aspect of journalism on the college campus.

Are you applying next near as a sophomore or junior?

@EasterBunny1 Do you mind me asking which school? I’m transferring out of DePauw University and will be a junior but I haven’t decided if I will go to UNC if I get admitted.
