***Official University of Virginia Class of 2015 Decision Thread***

Who do you believe got lucky ?

WAITLISTED (I had to edit post. Colors/font sizes didn’t work for me)

Objective:
SAT I:CR:590 M:690 W:590
ACT:29
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0 (I think school now gives more than 4 for A+ because at last check counselor told me 4.12 UW but not sure how that works, grading scale just changed last year)
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): currently 16 (was 18) out of 410 (top 5%)
Senior Year Course Load: Dual Enrollment English, AP Bio, AP Chem, Honors US History, obviously more since she is 4 x 4 schedule but I actually don’t know all her classes.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): a ton
Job/Work Experience:assists at SPCA with surgeries for spaying/neutering
Volunteer/Community service:a ton
Summer Activities:foreign exchange 2008
Essays:I thought they were great (but I’m the Mom)
Teacher Recommendation:I think she got a couple, not really sure (not a super Mom)
Counselor Rec:yes
Additional Rec:yes
Interview:No

Other:
State (if domestic applicant):VA
School Type:Biolological Sciences
Ethnicity:Caucasian
Gender:Female
Income Bracket:>$300,000

Reflection: I wish DD had taken studying for SATs as something worthwhile. She never slacks on something assigned directly but def didn’t feel she needed to review at all for SATs

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: very low SAT scores for highly competive applicant pool, DD has ADD

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:Accepted to all applied, waiting for W&M decision but that was also a reach. Since career goal is Veterinarian, VA Tech is probably best choice for DD anyway. For some reason, she doesn’t want to go there. :frowning:

General Comments:Congrats to all who made it!! Even those denied should not be upset. UVA is a very competitive school with twice the applicants this year (23,900) then just a couple years ago. Although it doesn’t seem to DD today that she can be happy anywhere but UVA, I am sure in a week or so she can start to be excited to go one of the many great schools she DID get accepted. :-)

Just took the time to read through posts. There aren’t many who were denied that actually posted but the few that did all had BETTER stats than my DD. I definitely will never understand the approach to admissions.

How did u find out about UVA-- through the mail?

Check your SIS account. Decisions went up at 5 PM yesterday.

For info on logging in to SIS, etc., see: [Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Have you logged into SIS?](Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process: Have you logged into SIS?).

Good luck!

Congrats, UVAorBust.

Is it too late to apply for instate tuition? I honestly was not thinking I would be considering going to UVA but now I am. Also does UVA meet full financial need?

In answer to questions above:

Yes, UVa does say they meet full need. That includes loans, work study, etc., of course.

I would hope that you could apply for in-state status for tuition whenever your family becomes eligible for it. In other words, if your parents just moved their permanent residence into Va. last week, I would hope you could become eligible for in-state tuition in time for the fall bills.

You have to remove the spaces.

Regarding instate tuition: You must live in VA for 12 mos prior to the start of the school year you are applying for instate rates. So if someone moved in now, they are not eligible until Summer, 2012. If you are accepted as an out of state resident you maintain that status until all SCHEV requirements have been met.
