Surprisingly enough, I didn’t even plan to apply to UVa until they e-mailed and invited me to, but congratulations to everyone that got in!

Sir, if you are truly interested in Engineering and were accepted to Case Western Reserve, don’t waste time fretting over UVA. Case Western is one of the finest Engineering schools in the USA. Get your deposit in and in 4 years you will be heavily recruited. Good Luck.

[] Summer Activities: Went to VA Governor’s school and did some summer activities.
[] Essays: common APP Essay was fairly decent. I tried to be really open about it. I really liked my UVA supplements though.
[] Teacher Recommendation: They should be decent. I asked junior year teachers who were advisers for clubs I’m in.
[] Counselor Rec: Pretty good. Not the best ever though.

[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[] Strengths: Extracurricualrs, URM, GPA
[] Weaknesses: SAT Scores
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:I think a huge part has to do with the instate factor. Also, looking at my school’s Naviance, my stats were basically identical with others in my school who had been accepted to UVA. I guess being URM helped as well.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to University of Rochester, University of Pittsburgh, CNU, and Elon. Waiting on W&M and Yale(Long Reach). [/li][/ul][ b]General Comments:** I’m happy to get accepted! I was not sure at all about whether I would be accepted or not. I thought SAT scores would keep out but its not all about the SAT. All the people looking at the thread who are applying next year and years after, don’t lose hope. You never know what will happen. I don’t have CC level stats at all but I was accepted to every school I applied so far!

I would suggest not including income on these tables. First, your parents may not like it, particularly if you include lots of other identifying information. Second, because UVa is need blind, it is irrelevant to the UVa admissions process.

[] Weaknesses: GPA and Test scores
[] Why you think you were waitlisted:I haven’t got the slightest clue I expected outright rejection.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Ohio State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Penn state[/li][/ul]General Comments: I am beyond shocked. I expected outright rejection but although a waitlist is pretty much a rejection I am still flattered that they saw me as a good candidate. I’m seeing other people who got rejected and I’m thinking how lucky I am to have been waitlisted. But w/e good luck to everyone, I’m likely to attend to OSU.

Ok I’ll admit it, I’m a parent of the student

He’s devasted, I won’t sugarcoat it. UVA was his first choice.

2300 SAT (800 math, 770 CR, 730 WR)
4.3 GPA obviously weighted
Subj test (770 Chem I think, 800 Math II)
All 5’s on his AP exams, except one 3
Very challenging course work at an incredibly challenging High School

  • I changed his scores a tiny amount to keep him annonomous, but not by much, his scores were that good.
5 or 6 AP courses including Calc and Physics

Serious illness caused his grades to drop a little and he had to cut back the rigor somewhat, but we never imagined it would drop him out of top contention for UVA.

Trying to keep him positive for the waitlist. Tough time for all kids. As an adult it’s easy to say life will work out, but it’s tough for a kid to understand.

Been a tough year for this family, praying for something positive.
