Official USC 2013 Transfer Thread

@tramsyrevur do you mind sharing your stats with us? :)

Hey guys! I applied last year and didn’t get in. I recognize some of you from last year’s posts as well. I’m reapplying this year but this time from a four year institution. I’m a junior now at the University of Washington in Seattle. I nearly gave up on applying this year because I’m already at a good school but I couldn’t say no after working so hard so I’m going to reapply. Can’t wait to see how this year turns out. :)

Hey guys! Is there an extra thing to do applying to Marshall? I’m not sure if the one on common app is only for first year applicants? please help

I had a question too, about letters of recommendation. Is there a specific format they have to be with a form that is included? I’ve never sent one before so i’m kinda clueless. Also, when do i tell my professor when its due? Is it due on the same day applications are? Or should i send it before the deadline?

Someone HELP! Thanks :D

Be in a specific format or have a form to be included with it****

@Coolkid094: On the Common App, go to ‘School Forms’ and click on the Instructor Evaluation form link. Have your prof fill it out, then send it here:

I looked through the USC 2012 Transfer thread, and it seems that as long as your rec is postmarked by February 1st, it can arrive to USC within 2 weeks after February 1st and you’d be good. You might wanna have it sent a little before the deadline, though… just in case something goes wrong. Hope that helps. :)

Hey guys! I posted earlier on this thread. I’m a freshman International Studies major at a large state university, applying for sophomore transfer. I ended the semester with a 4.0 GPA after 24 total credits completed (18 for the fall semester). My high school stats are so-so: around a 96 unweighted average with AP, IB, and honors courses taken, horrible ACT score somewhere in the 20’s, and over 1000 extracurricular activity hours + I held a job in high school. I completed the Math requirement and one of the GE categories this fall, and will complete another GE category + Writing requirement in the spring; only 3 GE categories have transferrable courses from my school. I’m also a URM - half Polynesian (Samoan and Tongan), half Caribbean (Dominican and Barbadian)… just in case there are others on this thread, haha.
I’m extremely nervous… if I don’t get in for my sophomore year, then I’m definitely reapplying. Good luck everyone!! :)

@ajindt- I don’t think there is a separate supplement or requirement for Marshall, besides fulfilling their required Math class. The 4 or 5 questions are for first-year applicants only as it states in the supplement instructions and common app. :)

It seems as though the common app changed from last year.

Just want to make sure I’m doing this right.

So if we’re applying to Marshall all we need to do is:

-1000 character “why do you want to attend USC?”
-250-500 word common app “why do you want to transfer?”
-have Writing req. and Calc 1 completed by May 2013

Also, if anyone else is applying to Marshall (or already transferred to Marshall), how important is taking Financial and Mangagerial Accounting before transferring? Or, do you recommend taking MicroEcon instead?

Hey guys. Does anyone know if getting a 4 or higher on the AP Calc BC exam satisfies the business prereq? The articulation page says it should but I’d just like some confirmation before I register for classes.

Thanks @uscco2016!

@katie9 I’m applying as a junior transfer and I have financial/managerial accounting (managerial in progress for spring semester) completed. I think it’s more important for a junior transfer to have these two accounting courses complete, as they are usually taken during a student’s sophomore year.

Since you’re a sophomore transfer they probably expect you to have micro and macro complete (even though you need to complete it at USC once accepted). Financial and managerial are usually taken during a business major’s sophomore year, so I dont think they expect sophomore transfers to have them complete. Completing the accounting courses may separate you from other sophomore transfers, but I don’t think it is as important as it would be for Junior transfers.

I also had an unanswered question. Is 3 letters of recommendations too much? I believe they are all very influential but I don’t want to waste the admissions committee’s time.
My letters are from my
-Accounting professor, had a 110% average in the class and very friendly with her. Accounting is also a recommended course for admission.
-Sociology professor, did very well in his course and he said he would be able to talk about my writing ability. English 101/full year english course is not offered at my school, so this recommendation would give admissions insight on my writing ability.
-Employer, internship in NYC focusing on high frequency trading industry. He will be speaking about my performance at the company (created multiple media partnerships) and how I mentored new interns.

@ronaldot. Three letters of recommendations sound a lot!!! Especially since you’re applying as a transfer, who are not required to submit one. Personally, I would ask the accounting professor for a letter of recommendation. If you are applying as a business major it would be better to have the letter to supplement or support that decision, so I wouldn’t ask your sociology teacher. Also, you’re applying to the school so it would make sense to have the letter of recommendation from a professor who knows you as a student. Maybe you can give your professor a list of the work experiences/ extra-currcular activities that you do and maybe he or she can mention that in the letter. I wouldn’t ask your employer either because you’re probably going to mention your work experience/extra curricular activities under the activities list. That’s just me though!

Even though I’m sure they all have wonderful things to say about you, you also want to keep in mind that the admissions officers read tons of applications everyday and reading three letters of recommendation would take time! Also, the letter of recommendation is probably not going to be what makes or breaks your application.

Hope that helps! :)

I also found this https://plus.google.com/events/cet0k0cct0p3j04uoic625g5cs8</a>
and thought it was helpful! :)

@ronalddot

I’m currrently attempting to transfer into Marshall as well, but why waste time taking both Econ courses if I have to take them at USC as well? I’m at a public, state institution currently, and find that taking these two courses would waste both money and time. I would rather spend the money only at USC, if it were required to be taken there.

However, if one were at a CC where units were cheaper, then I’d say definitely take the Econ courses. CC units are cheaper, and could provide valuable practice.

hello
will USC accept the traditional letter of recommendation from college’s counselor and teachers instead of using the instructur evaluation form in common app?
thanks before

Hey everyone!

I’m a sophomore at UF and am looking to transfer to USC SCA.
Any other SCA hopefuls?
