mrburbank- I have the exact same thing on mine and I was also wondering what it means.

What do you guys think my chances are?

I am applying with 54 credits and a 3.796 gpa from a community college. I think my essay was pretty good, but I don’t have a lot of extracurriculars. I do meals on wheels regularly and have for a long time. Maybe they will like my dedication… My intended major is Geology.

I’m nervous because I want to go to this school!

Is anyone else completely done with their app? I’ve finished the main essay, and I’m working on the supplement and the EC paragraphs now.

@melpru: Your GPA is good! Apparently some people got accepted with barely any ECs; the main thing I would focus on would be selling yourself in your essays. @amann318: Yea, those are the only things you’re required to write about if you’re applying to Dornsife. @adianguyen: I think I read on last year’s thread that generally everything is due February 1st, but as long as you have your transcript postmarked by Feb 1st/as long as it’s received no later than 2 weeks after Feb 1st, you should be fine. I also read that it’s better to have your Math and English requirements completed by the end of Spring, but don’t quote me on this. Here’s what it says for Marshall:

Did you guys tailor your commonapp essay specifically for USC? I am confused because they already ask you to explain why you want to go to USC in the supplement, but only provide you with 1000 characters to do that.

i was wondering this same thing. is USC the only school that you are using your commonapp for?

and i don’t understand what you mean when you say that they already ask you to explain why you want to go to USC in the supplement (true), but only provide you with 1000 characters to do that (true).
the commonapp essay is more broad, and then the supplemental is more school specific, because usually the commonapp is sent to various different schools, and so each university has the supplemental for more specificity.

I’m applying to 8 schools, 6 that are on the commonapp. Not really sure what I’m doing yet, but I know it is possible to submit different commonapp essays to each school.

@ronaldot: Since USC is the only school I’m applying to (USC or bust), I mentioned why I would be a good fit in the common app essay; for the supplement, I went into detail about my major interests and mentioned some of the things I would be able to do at USC concerning my major.

@SatinderChhokar: I don’t think there’s a place to put it… I think you would just put your current CC on the common app, and have all of your transcripts sent to USC so they can know you’ve attended more than one

In the process of applying to USC as a transfer student.

Just wanted to clarify some things.

1) When are transcripts due? (High school and college). I’m assuming I just mail them in right? And do the high school one’s have to be official (unopened), or can they just be a copy of them.
2) USC does not require the additional school forms right?
3) Do letters of recommendation have to come from professors, or can they come from other people?

Wow that’s great to know @Ngarcia3! Can you tell me the essay prompts that you answered to? Is it the same every year? What do you think made yourself stand out in your essay?

I am applying to Marshall as a sophomore transfer and since there is no Marshall supplement writing piece, the only “essay” we have is the ridiculously short, 1000 character response.

So, I emailed my region counselor about two weeks ago asking if I should make my general common app “why do you want to transfer?” 250-500 word essay specific to USC. She responded that I should make it general like the directions imply. It was hard to make it general when I wanted to mention USC specific activities I wanted to get involved in, but I ended up making it general… I just was worried that if I didn’t make it general like the direction they might take notice of that.

Question:
do you guys/gals know if they ask for Winter grades? Because by the time winter quarter finishes, i believe it’s about time to let admission decisions out ( the time around March ).
So I’m wondering if they even ask for those grades and factor them in, and how about spring grades?
Thx

Does anyone know if there’s any way to check and see what application materials USC has received before you send in the commonapp? I sent in my transcripts and ACT scores last week and I want to know if they’ve received them…

Is anyone applying to the School of Dramatic Arts? I’m applying for the BA program as a sophomore transfer, but I haven’t read/heard of many other SDA transfers.

@markfoti100 I believe that they do ask for winter grades at times, but you should just go ahead and send them yourself if they are released before USC asks for them. In addition, transfer students usually get their admissions decisions in May/June (probably because they want to see spring grades) unless you’ve had a really strong academic record going back into high school.

@sierrag95 I was wondering the same thing. I sent in my transcripts and whatnot a while ago but havent submitted the common app. Also, are you just sending in your ACT scores or are you sending SAT scores too?
