If I’m only applying for USC, can my “reasons for transferring” essay be school-specific?

^Yea, it can. Just be sure to answer the question.

hey guys, i’m totally new to this thread and to USC and was hoping someone could help me out?

I literally just started looking at the transfer app; I’ve been thinking about transferring schools for awhile but didn’t realize USC’s deadline was so early!

With that said, I’m having a hard time deciding what major to apply as. How hard is it to switch majors at USC? (and I mean switching to a major in another school, possibly Annenberg School For Communication And Journalism…since I hear SCA is impossible). I’m reading their information online, and it says sophomore transfers can apply as “Open”, but would this make it harder to get the major I want later? Sorry for all these questions; I know so little about USC, but what majors are renowned besides Film & Business?

My grades have been on a downward trend (4.0->3.5 senior year, and now a 3.2 in college) which I know looks bad, but is it that significant?

hey, does anyone know if I am getting a letter of recommendation from my former high school teacher and a college professor, could they use the instructor evaluation form? (my major does not require a letter of recommendation, just wanted to have one). Thanks!

drizzzy- what school do you go to right now?

@NedNickerson-I go to Duke University.

@bycity94-wait, the instructor evaluation’s not required, right? I know you said you just wanted to have one but just making sure haha. I called USC and I thought they said that.

@drizzzzzy- nope, it’s not required if your major doesn’t ask for it. Do you know if we can use that form for high school teachers too of just college professors?

@Drizzy: how do you like Duke? I have a friend thinking of going, but she wants to make sure she will fit in socially…would you say the greek scene is a big part of campus? also why are you interested in transferring (don’t feel pressured to answer these questions, i was just curious!)

@bycity94. I know that if you’re planning to transfer to annenberg your lor has to be from a college professor.
So I don’t know if they’ll look at your high school teachers rec. Maybe you can turn one in- ? I’d still call and ask if it is okay

@drizzzzzy, wow Duke! to be quite honest, I think a downward trend might hurt your chances. I heard they really like upward trends and it seems that from looking at past years’ transfer results that it’s true. I definitely know an upward trend helps, but i’m not sure if a downward trend would hurt you as much as an upward trend would help you. but since you go to Duke, I bet they’ll take that into consideration.

according to one of the admissions counselors somewhere in here [USC Admission Hangout - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube) it’s fairly easy to change majors once you’re in so I would say don’t worry about it /too/ much. just curious, what makes you want to go to USC if you don’t know much about it? and what don’t you like about Duke? if you don’t mind me asking

good luck to everybody on their apps! slightly freaking out because it’s due in 4 days and i’m still polishing my essay but i’ll also be glad to just get it over with. i’ve been stressing out over this application so much for what feels like a year now, so i’m looking forward to just finishing and waiting.

is the FAFSA and CSS due on February 2 for transfer applicants? or is it due on another date?

@uscco2016 thanks for the help!

@ajmy17 alright thank you!

@bycity94 i thought all FAFSA was due in like Jan. or something? is it maybe different for common app?

@uscacceptme You’re welcome!

3 more days, everyone!

@bycity94 it’s due February 1, the same day as the application [USC Financial Aid - Applying & Receiving Financial Aid - Undergraduate - New Students](http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/undergraduates2/newstudents.html)

Okay, how bizarre is it that I have the “The committee has acted on your application, and we have mailed notice of the decision. If for some reason you do not receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results of this online through USConnect April 3rd.” status already?

^maybe it’s like a glitch and that message is meant for freshman applicants…

@uscco2016 That’s what I’m thinking, haha.

@bubbletea94 and NedNickerson

Haha, I could rant forever about Duke, but this is the USC thread. I guess I can’t handle the social pressure at Duke. It’s a lot smaller than USC and not a school where you can “be anyone” and fit in. I feel like I constantly have to appear perfect or else I’m not someone who’s “socially important.” I don’t want to stay at a school where the social hierarchy, self-segregation, jock culture & cliques resemble that of high school. It’s really elitist. Not to mention the academic pressures as well…

As for why USC, I may not know much about USC academically, but I grew up in SoCal. I have friends at USC & all over LA. California is familiar to me…the west coast is still the best coast and I miss the chillness, the beach, the raves :’) Plus, I’ve realized that I hate studying science & math since starting college, so I want to give film/media/journalism a shot, areas which are way more prominent at USC than Duke.

Thanks for answering my questions!
