I filled out my fafsa back in January and put USC on it. Right now it says it doesnt need anything.

Was I supposed to do a CSS profile?
I’m confused on the process of finanaid.

@randomnewguy alright, thanks for the help. I got a lot of scanning to do lol.

Hey everybody, sorry for not being online this past week. I’ve had quite the busy week, with two exams and an essay one after another after another! Just a reminder: when you come to USC, be prepared to work and to work hard.

deep breath

@BasedTrojan: Transfer applicants will be hearing back either on or before June 1st. In some instances, you will hear back a few days late; I got my packet on the 6th and the letter of acceptance inside was dated the 2nd.

@bycity94: Absolutely. It wouldn’t hurt to send in documents of that nature. Just remember that your USC I.D. number should go at the top of each document to expedite processing. (I do that as a job here, and it speeds up the documents getting into your file tenfold.)

@Transfer612: While having somebody affiliated with USC certainly helps, don’t bet on riding it to an acceptance letter. The letter they write on your behalf will only be as good as how well they know you and your strengths. The USC alumnus you met at a cocktail party a week before the application due date will not write a letter as good as a boss, family friend, organization leader, etc. that you have worked under for a long time.

@Tiquicia: Whatever the admissions office tells you over the phone has priority over whatever USConnect says. Their system takes an excruciatingly long time to update document statuses, but the most up-to-date status on your documents is in their personal system which only they can access.

@asganga93: I unfortunately can’t accurately chance you without knowing more about you. I see that you’re a father of five, but I would hope that in one of your essays you would have elaborated on that.

@beachpony: Nope. Just fill out and send in the FAFSA and CSS Profile on time. You’ll be considered if you meet those prerequisites.

@theildream: All applicants should fill out both the FAFSA and CSS Profile, so you should start working on the CSS. Turning it in late won’t cause you to be rejected from all financial aid, but you may not get as much reward as you qualify for. And yeah, it’s confusing; it’s everyone’s least favorite part of applying. But it pays off, literally and figuratively.

Hey everyone, quick question:

1) People are talking about some “USC connect”? I’m not sure i ever received an email with info for something like that or even heard of that?
I’m a transfer who applied for Fall 2013…does anyone have any info on this, and if i should be signed up?

2) What is the deadline for fafsa for USC? does anyone know? thx

3) Also, if i listed that i was going to be taking a certain class, Intercollegiate Tennis, at my community college on the application to USC, but now i won’t be taking that class next quarter, should i send in some email or information letting them know this? or is it really a big deal?

Thanks a bunch if anyone can help me out

@markfoti100: You’ll find USConnect at https://usconnect.usc.edu/, which allows you to submit documents electronically, check which ones are in your file, and accept/decline admission later on.

The FAFSA deadline is March 1st, so now is a good time to get on it.

And yes, send them an email or other documentation saying you’re changing your classes. They’d like to know about things like that.

Why is June so far away?

My 21st birthday is farther away than you guys getting your acceptance letters.

Do I need to send the high school transcript if I studied high school outside U.S.? USC website stated that I can use HS graduation certificate to substitute the transcript. Moreover, my high school transcript does not report the score by GPA system. However, when I checked the status on USConnect, they still ask me to provide the HS transcript. I have called the officers before but they say if they need any documents, they will contact me. So I’m not sure if I still need to send them my high school transcript.

Thanks SilverRex, i also had another question, if you or anyone could possibly help me out.
Do you know how hard it is to completely change majors once you get in? For instance, if i were accepted, it would be for Economics, but lets say i want to change to bio… does anyone know the process? would i basically need to take all the pre reqs…well thats obvious, but my point is, do i have to be taking Econ classes at the same time, or can i immediatly just completely ditch Econ to start taking pre reqs for Bio?

Thanks for ANY info in advanced, thanks peeps

@qwert555: I would go ahead and submit the high school transcript anyway. They can’t dock you for submitting extra information.

@markfoti100: I’m probably not the right person to ask about changing majors, since I’ve never done it before. Hopefully there’s someone else that might be able to help you here, or just call the school and ask them.

So I called admissions on Wednesday and they updated my college transcript, but my high school transcript is still under “required documents”. They said to call back after a week. Should I be worried?

Good question. I had a dream last night that I got my acceptance packet to USC… best/worst dream ever.

@basketballer: I don’t think you should be worried… Did you ask them if they have your high school transcript? If they said they have it, then they have it.

Chance me Please:

All my EC are military related, I was medically retired for injuries sustained while serving. As soon as active duty time ended I started school and have taken as many classes as possible each semester.

Ok, thanks anyway SilverRex
I have one more question… how was i supposed to know about this usc connect thing? i don’t think they ever mentioned it to me and i would have not known unless i checked this thread…

@markfoti100: If I remember correctly (it’s been a while), they should have sent you an email about it. They might have sent something related to the fact that they received your application, and somewhere in that email might have been a link to USConnect.

@UCBoundVet: Your grades are all great, and your drop in GPA is understandable given your circumstances. If your essays are great, you have a good chance.

@SilverRex Thank you for your response.

Does anyone know if you will have an idea what your financial aid package will look like before you accept (if one is offered) an admissions offer?

hey. I know 4-year universities are waited more, but do they also look at how tough your 4-year is compared to another. For example a kid going to pepperdine would get more consideration than one from University of Arizona. How much do they take this into account?

This is how sad I have become: I was pleasantly surprised to see the Financial Aid part of USC Connect has this separate status check and the first two parts are all GREEN CHECKMARK. OMG GREEN CHECKMARKS.

^even program of study under eligibility checks?

I don’t see that, it just says:

✓ Eligibility Checks
✓ Satisfactory Academic Progress

✓ Application Started
✓ Initial Documentation

Application in Review
In Review

… I assume this means nothing, but - hey! - it’s new stuff. Exciting. :(
