30 units at time of application

Hello all,
is anyone else having trouble fitting all the prerequisites, GEs, and as many major requirements as possible in 2 years? I am currently attending UCSC and am having a lot of trouble trying to fit my prerequisites for my major there (in case I do not successfully transfer) UCSC GEs (for UC reciprocity as I am a plying to a few UCs in case), UCS’ GEs, USC prerequisites, USC major requirements for my major, and UC prerequisites for other UCs. The fact that USCs GEs differ so much from UC GEs makes thinks even worse.

My biggest concern is on whether I will finish any of the USC GEs to tell you all the truth. Besides category III, I have not fulfilled any other GE and have not squeezed in any particular class into my plan for the rest of this year. How are you guys going about seeing what courses fulfill a specific category? (Perhaps this questions applies only those transferring from a 4 year).

Maybe I am over doing this all. I just want my application to be as competitive as possible. I want this so freaking bad it’s crazy.

Anyways, /rant. Sorry about that you guys.

50 units
3.9 college gpa
attend four year university in California
high school gpa 3.0 (yes, terrible)
sat 1510 (terrible)
ec-volunteering at hospital, future doctors’s of america club, track and field, internship at pomona college with professor of neuroscience.

I know the high school grades are bad, but my college career is a lot better. What are my chances of getting in? please let me know!

Gosh, I’m anxious for you future Trojans!!! <3 Fight on!

I’m anxious to be a future trojan! LoL

Hi everyone…just wanted to see what my chances were for SC, particularly Biochemistry? I figure it’s a slim to none chance but it’s worth a shot…freshman year UCI gpa 1.5 (Biomedical engineering), sophomore and junior community college gpa is around 3.4. I’ve retaken all the classes I didn’t pass my freshman year. EC’s include working at a hospital part time, member of chem club, health occupation students of america, and I may be volunteering at the hospital I work at in the near future. Thanks for all of your advice!

Agh! Me too you guys! After waiting a whole year to apply, it’s finally right around the corner

No one replied to my post on 8/30? There has to be someone who knows or at least who can point me in the right direction.

Well Jon, as a current transfer student at USC, let me just tell you that you don’t have to get them all done, at least not the GE’s. You are going to have to take 3 more GEs once you get to USC as it is. So no need to worry :)

Secondly. I would like to say that if you haven’t looked at an articulation agreement, here it is for fall 2013

Error;

If you are committed to USC, then you would follow their agreement, despite the differences. Just focus on the ones that match up. If some do, get those done. If none do, the that decision is yours. I’m surprised that the GE classes would be different. They are usually the same, although it takes longer for credits to be processed for universities.

In the agreement, they also have “course to course equivalent classes” that may match up with the possible major classes, so check that out as well.

Hope I answered your questions and was encouraging :)

I know that Marshall (Marketing), Annenberg (Public Relations), and SCA (Production) are all incredibly competitive acceptance wise. Which one would be the least competitive with a 3.2 GPA, with loads of EC’s and a few internships?

also, are non-transferrable classes factored into the overall GPA?

Hi, just trying to get a sense what my chances are for transferring like everyone else. any feedback will be appreciated. I am beginning my freshman year at Wake Forest and will be applying as a transfer to USC next fall as a computer science major. I am going to aim for a 3.7 this semester. Assuming I achieve that, I am also playing rugby and joining the bass fishing club as well as the computer science club. I’m looking into and am going to make sure I join another organization showing some sort of leadership. I had steady forward progress all through high school and ended senior year with all A’s, but my sat and act scores are pretty terrible (1720 and 26). any advice on anything else I could do to improve my odds? Thanks

First off, congrats on your acceptance! I hope to be in your shoes a year from now.

Thanks for link!
That makes things a lot easier, haha. By the end of this academic school year I should have all of my major prerequisites completed and at most 4 of the GEs out of the way. I hope I am not penalized too heavily for that.

While starting my application I noticed that 90% of my ECs came from HS. That has me a little worried. Also, how important do you think it is to upload a resume?

You did answer my questions and were encouraging. Thank you!

This thread started early! Man the application process is going to be so crazy this year!

Hey guys I’m new to the forum, and I’m glad to be apart of the community! Like the rest of you guys and girls I would like to know my chances of getting into USC. I will be applying to USC’s School of Business (which i believe is Marshall) for Fall of 2013. Here is where i stand.

My Story:

High School:
4.03 Cumulative GPA my freshmen year i got a 2.8 and 3.3 and worked every semester to make “magna cum laude” at my high school, which i had to get a 4.4+ every semester until i graduated. (unfortunately i was rejected from the only schools i applied to which was UCLA and UCI), however, I take great interest in USC because I realized my passion for Business.
EC: ASB, Varsity Sports, and various clubs.
Worked 2 jobs to help the family
SAT: 1800 (i know its low)

College: (currently in my second year at GoldenWest Community College)
After this fall semester I should have completed around 43 units completing all the areas on the articulation sheet, EXCEPT FOR English and Calculus (which I will be taking the spring semester)
GPA after fall: 3.93 (assuming i get a 4.0)
EC: As of right now I work 30 hours to pay for my classes and books. My family is middle class and we do not get any Financial aid, so I am forced to work!
Work: I work at Chase as a bank teller and Finishline as a sales associate. (both jobs apply to business field)
Letter of Rec: I currently have 1 person that is willing to write mine. I met this person a couple years ago through work. He is a accounting alumni of USC, and is very successful. He is the Owner of Soundbox Inc, which does the audio for a bunch of oldies bands (i.e. the Eagles)
Inter: I currently do not have an intern, Do you guys have any suggestions, i hardly have time between work and school.

This is my quick post, I would highly appreciate your guys thoughts and suggestions on where I stand and areas that would help me get admission to USC. Thank for your time and I wish all of you the best of luck lets make it happen this FALL 2013!!

Hello guys!
Hopefully you guys can chip and give me some advice.
I’m currently a freshman at PCC trying to transfer to USC’s Marshall. I’m planning on transferring in 2 years probably, fall 2014? Because I want to finish all my GE’s at PCC and not pay so much at USC. I also have to finish Calc and Accounting.
But, I started thinking is it possible to transfer in fall 2013?

I currently have 15.3 units and I’m part of an honor society and publicity committee. Could I transfer to USC in the fall if I had 30+ units? And does that mean I have to finish Calc and Accounting at PCC, or can I finish that at USC?

Thank you for any advice!

@jongranados

You won’t be penalized for not having GE’s done. They encourage transfer students to focus on those more rather than other elective classes. I’m in Dornsife so I was told to focus on GEs because all of my major prep has to be done their. If you are in business or engineering or another school at SC then they would say the opposite. Focus on major prep just because its a lot more preparation fornthe major, am i making sense?
Basically the more you have completed, the more competitive you are. And if you have GEs done on top of it, even better

As for the resume, It will not make a difference. I did not send a resume or a letter of recommendation. Letters of rec, I would do, especially for specific schools because they will more than likely ask for you to send one in. Resumes? Let your essay speak of your extracurriculars. If they ask for it, of course send it it, but if they don’t I wouldn’t waste time and send it.

If most of ur ECs are in HS, that’s not a big deal. Even with that though, I would try and do some more. If the clubs sucks on your campus, then just volunteer!! Volunteer everywhere you can and talk about those experiences. preferably, volunteer somewhere where it relates to your field of study. I will look better and show your dedication.

Hope This helps and good luck!!!

hey guys I am currently a freshman at Whittier college and have some questions about the transfer process. I’m trying for Marshall Business School.

I got all 4s on the Micro, macro, and Chem AP exams in high school so will that count towards the 30 credit minimum?

Also, is the fall semester the only semester they look at for admission? My fall classes are fairly easy and i should pull a 4.0 but my spring semester will be much harder.

Lastly, if I do manage a 4.0 in my fall semester and keep things in the same direction for my spring semester, what are my chances?

Thanks!

Hello, this is my first time posting on this site, but I have been “stalking” around for information regarding transfer admission from California cc’s. Congrats on getting into USC!! Hopefully i can get there too. Im a biology major, and have taken the IGETC and USC GE courses. So far my GPA is a 3.4 and Im trying very hard and taking 18 units this semester. Total I will have 64 transferable units, but thats including spring 2013 semester. I was wondering if you could send me your essay, (if you had it) so I could kind of glance at it to see what approach to take. I have many EC’s including coaching tennis at a variety level. Playing varsity tennis is HS, shadowing surgeon in Oral surgery clinic for months at a certified medical clinic, etc. My only problem is trying not to sound too much on my essay. I want to project myself as enthusiastic but not too much.

gousc92: Im a biology major, heading towards pre-dentistry… possibly ostrow school of dentistry. But that is a graduate school… so does that mean I would fall under Dornslife school of letter, arts, and sciences? and compete with those applicants rather than the business applicants?
