@SilverRex Hello I am also a first time student at CC who started this summer and I am also interested in transfer to USC for fall 2014. My situation is the same as NCXfer, get the best grades possible, GPA, and apply to Annenberg. The thing is will USC ask for all the college classes I have taken? Because some courses I took for the summer and now aren’t even transferable! I’m so worried this will affect my chances of getting in! I really want to go to USC the quicker the better. And I really don’t want them to consider my chances based on my high school record because my grades were bad and my gpa was low. Please help me :(

Calm down, just go ahead and read your articulation agreement carefully and get over 30 transferable units by the spring semester while getting the requirements done with really good GPA, start your application right now. As stated previously by other users 30 is the magic number, as long as you get them 30 transferable units they wont look at you hs records unless you don’t get intermediate algebra taken care of but you will cuz u wanna get in. Look in your articulation which classes transfer if the ones you took don’t appear then those are not considered towards the 30 count also intermediate algebra is a non transferable required course. Its all in the articulation agreement so read read read, you already started with my comment.

Thanks so much! I was wondering if I can get your guys’ opinions on my situation or anyone else would like to chime in. Since my gpa is a 2.9, I want to bring it up as much as I can. It’s either I take 14 units and get a 4.0 and bring it up to 3.11 or take 17 and get 3.15 if i get 4.0. Last time, I took 18 units at UC Davis and I got a low gpa which I don’t want - but I was taking science courses and yeah. Now, I’m gonna be taking either macro or micro and macro econ, calc, english, and accounting. Do you guys think I should take 14 or 17 units? I wanna have my sched. finalized by this week so I can start planning ect. and I’ll be having a small side job at my cc as well but it’s only like 5 hrs a week so opinions!? Thanks!!!

Hello everyone! This is my first experience with this site but have heard great things! My situation is somewhat similar to many of you fellow USC transfer hopefuls. I would also like to attend USC but don’t plan on applying to a specific school within the univeristy .From what it seems, many of you are either currently enrolled or are planning to enroll in a CC for academic reasons. I recently graduated from highschool with a 2.6 GPA this past spring. I’m starting a CC courseload next week outside of the state of CA. In a perfect world, I plan on having atleast a 3.5 GPA (ATLEAST) and roughly 13 credits under my belt come January 1st. I tailored my fall course load to satisfy a lot of what they are looking for in transfer courses i.e Western Civ, Biology (W/Lab), World Civ, And Inter-cultural Communications. From 8th grade through my senior year of highschool I worked a part time job running on average 30 hours a week. I held this job for 5 years (14-19) and worked so much I received two weeks of paid vacation when I was just 17. Through my life experience, I feel I can put out a killer essay (much easier said then done). The final piece to my preparation process is reaching out to the academic advisor. I just sent the academic advisor an email today and hope to hear back from him within the next few days. Although they aren’t a do or die element to my application, I feel if I building a strong relationship with him it wouldn’t hurt. My academic standing definitely doesn’t fit their standards and that’s my fault for not giving a damn in high school. I realize the golden ticket in would be to accumulate 30+ credits and essentially throw away my high school transcript. My main discrepancy with this is that I would have to wait 2 years before I could attend, since I would have to accumulate 30 credits + applying next year. Should I pursue a Feb 1st deadline or is there no chance in heaven, hell, or purgatory of me getting in at this time? Thanks in advance!!! :)

@JHM15001, if you don’t reach 30 units by the time you transfer, then they would look at your high school grades more heavily, which in your case, isn’t really in your favor. If you’re aiming to transfer in by Fall 2014, you should really try to get to 30 units! Otherwise, spending 2 years at a CC and putting together a good gpa and extracurricular activities in those 2 years would really benefit you and increase your chances of getting in.

The school I currently go to utilizes the quarter system. Does anyone know if quarter units are equal to semester units?

@TheShowGoesOn

Articulation Agreement!:)

PART IV: GENERAL RULES
A. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

2.Units at a quarter school are converted to semester units by dividing them by 1.5.

Anybody from a CCC wanting to transfer ask me anything, Im the Articulation Master! lol

If we are looking to transfer with 30 units do we have to have 30 units before the deadline or by the end of spring? There’s no way im going to have 30 units by he end of winter semester. And also what is the Spring Grade Report for?

You are supposed to have the 30 transferable units by the end of spring which is exactly what the spring grade request is for(or would probably be in your case). Other transfers also get a SGR because of different reasons such as having a low GPA, missing requirements, your EC’s or your curriculum is not enough that they need to know your spring grades and make a decision upon that. That or just bad luck. :)

Just started school and planning to transfer. I know that unless I obtain 30 credits by the end of the Spring, they’re going to look at my high records (something that I am trying to avoid), but I don’t go to a CC.

I go to Azusa Pacific University (a Christian school) and some of the classes I am enrolled in, I highly doubt will transfer. Classes like Leadership and Christian Life Faith and Ministry. I want to drop them but I have literally no idea what to replace them with. These are GE classes and I’m currently enrolled in BA English major (something that I am on the rocks about). What’s my next step? Drop them and replace them with a class USC will accept? (I don’t know what they will accept btw).

@Hopeitworks

Here you go:
Error;

That is the closest you will get to an official list of classes that do and don’t transfer(unless you talk with a transfer counselor or USC counselor that may know better). Read it carefully there is a lot of valuable info.

@fdominguez

Huge thanks. Helped a lot. I’m also going to call my admissions counselor just for 100% confirmation.

@hopeitworks heyy apu student xD just to piggyback on the articulation you can try to get some classes at citrus college now if possible or winter or spring if you can’t get any courses that transfer to usc. Try to get as much ges and work towards ur major. Good luck and hope I helped

@iloveasianguys

Thanks. Definitely planning on going down there and asking a few questions. (even though I don’t even attend there)

Another question. I took AP Euro in my sophomore year and passed with a 4. This means that I can add 4 credits to my Fall/Spring semester credit total, right?

@hopeitworks alright but you can just always call or email since driving might be far but idk lol and with your ap euro question you might want to check their site to see what they give credit to and what score. i think you are right since it’s a 4 but they might only accept 5’s so just go on their site and make sure or if you are planning to go you can ask them there

@cccblues: Since you have well over 30 transferable units, they eseentially disregard your high school records.

If your current grades are worlds better than your high school grades, then that’s great! USC admissions officers love to see upward trends.

So I’m looking to transfer into Viterbi this fall, and my GPA is going to be a 3.5–I went to UCSB my first quarter, and left because of financial issues, so because I knew I would only be there for one quarter I thought I would make the most of it and ended up biting off more than I could chew, and I had a really bad GPA because of it. I’ve been doing really well at CC though, As in all my calculus and diff. EQs classes. Could someone possibly tell me if I’ve got any chance at all at Viterbi? My SAT is 2250 and I have plenty of APs, ECs and at least one good rec. Thanks!

What are my chances of being accepted into USC as an international student who studies in Mexico with a GPA of 3.7?. What should I get in the TOEFL test? Is not needing financial aid an advantage for international students?

I graduated from an American high school with a GPA of 3.96 and actually applied to USC undergrad but I got rejected. Got in into excellent american universities but decided to come to Mexico to study (a prestigious university), however USC has been my dream school and I would like to get in as a transfer student into the Marshall School of Business.

Need feedback on the amount of international students that apply to as tranfer students and how many get in…I would appreciate it
Thanks!!!

Any Annenberg hopefuls here? I plan on applying for the '15 school year but I am confused as to how many units exactly would be transferable. The “Transfer Guidelines” PDF for Annenberg notes that journalism majors will have only 36 of their units transferred, however the Annenberg page notes a maximum of 64.

If it is true that only 36 units are transferred over, how does Annenberg decide which courses will transfer? I’m currently at 48 units and when I am done with the remainder of the courses listed on the articulation, I would be at 67 units and, ideally, at a 3.3 GPA. I am confused, halp.
