Yes, @madlion21 you are very right. Anyone who thinks the admissions counselor has no decision in the admissions process is fooled! They call them an admissions counselor for a reason. I spoke to my admissions counselor about the admissions process and she specifically said that SHE READS IT FIRST (yes, my admissions counselor reads the application first), he/she (an admissions counselor) then makes a decision and sends it off to someone else. If the two of them do not agree, it then goes to a committee for further analysis.
Has anyone else had problems with USC requesting information, then you providing that information, and then USC requesting the same information again weeks later as a “final notice”? I’m at a loss… I emailed an admissions counselor asking if this was the proper way to upload the documents a few weeks ago, and she said it was fine, but now this second request for information has me stumped.
And do not worry about your admissions counselor being “mean” to you. I felt the same way about mine and low and behold I was admitted. As long as you carry yourself professionally and mean what you ask, the admissions counselor has no reason to dislike you.
Knew you had the inside scoop @RAHforHEE - glad to see you back helping us out btw did you ever get your FA package settled I remember it was taking awhile for them to send it to you? Hope you can post on the new Official Acceptance Transfer 15/16 Thread someday when ya got the time!
@LostAndAnnoyed If it matters, I’m also a CS applicant. I was requested an explanation in gap of education (from HS to college) in the middle of April, which would be my only correspondence with USC. So I do believe that Viterbi has been reviewing CS applicants.
I have a feeling that it also matters when your school’s quarter/semester ends since a counselor is assigned by the school. My quarter actually doesn’t end until June 27 so I feel like I’m in for a long wait.
@HappyLifeMachine Yup I was in the same situation as you are in early April. And I had to call my admission counselor to solve the problem. Like I faxed, mailed and emailed the missing documents. My portal still says “missing documents-final notice” and has not changed.
@madlion21 Yes, I did get my FA package and I only have to pay $250 dollars for the entire year. I am hella poor, so this really helps me out. I also applied for the NTSAF scholarship which could really help me out, but we will not get decisions on those until August!
@1mHello1m I see, at least we know then that we aren’t the only ones. It’s definitely making me anxious though.
@RAHforHEE HOLY **** You hit the FA jackpot as a transfer student that’s amazing and exactly what USC does for incoming students that have real needs for it - no doubt - really proud of your accomplishments will keep my fingers crossed that NTSAF scholarship comes through for ya too!
Thanks @madlion21 I also just posted my stats!
@RAHforHEE Rah what two majors did you apply for? And how many Ws did you have??
@TonyStark93 I applied for PPD and Global Health, no W’s.
I was just going off of what the admission office told me. On a school visit I was told that your area counselor has nothing to do with the decision as it could turn into a conflict of interest. I have no idea if this is true or not. I am an SCA applicant, so perhaps she told me that based on a different application process for that school. I know for a fact that finalized admission to SCA (and probably the other professional schools) rests with a panel of the SCA professors and administrators, not with the admissions counselors.
@kozarts I don’t know what SCA is, but it does sound like there is a different approach to those applicants. Best of luck to you!
Cinematic Arts.
Congrats to you again @RAHforHEE
@kozarts Yes I had a faculty member call me to ask me questions about my application and she said she was done with it and handing it on to an admission panel for decision and offered me good luck so it’s the panel that makes the final decision on acceptance or denial but I think those reviewing the applications before it gets to the panel can mark favorites and try to sway the panel in your favor…or at least thats what it sounded like from the faculty lady that I talked to. Good luck!!!
Guys I have a question:
This was in my Message History sent March 31, 2015:
“We have received your application for admission but wanted to let you know some items are still missing from your file. We have listed these items below academic transcripts, including coursework from the most recent semester as indicated below:
● PLS USE 004086 (Full transcript)
We encourage you to send them to us as soon as possible.”
Is this my SGR? Or is this something else?
No, that is not an SGR, it seems as if you did not send an entire transcript? Just call the admissions office first thing in the morning, it’s way better than getting a response from unqualified people to answer your questions.
(213) 740-1111
@RAHforHEE Thanks and I had one last question. I requested a letter of recommendation a while back from my calculus professor and I just got word from her today, would it matter whether or not I sent in her recommendation? Or is it not even worth it since it’s been so long since applications were turned in?
@TonyStark93 Call USC.
