@NCXfer Yeah you would be considered a sophomore, but you’re in the same boat I am, I will have around 60 credits, to be considered a junior you need 64. So technically you should be able to transfer as undeclared. I don’t know if they would look down upon that, Im sure they would make you declare a major by Spring 2016 if you do get admitted as a undeclared. What I have heard is that changing your major outside of your college (Dornslife to Marshall in your situation) tends to be hard but not impossible. If you go the undeclared route then I’m pretty sure you can switch to any major relatively easily, as long as you have the requirements.

Does not applying to USC out of high school hurt you?
No it won’t hurt you, it could have possible helped you if you would’ve got accepted to the Trojan Transfer Plan. But don’t worry about that, that is in the past concentrate on what you can do now, not what you could’ve done . The grades you obtained in high school won’t matter unless you’re applying with less then 30 units completed.
Should you apply as Undecided or Political Science?
If your end goal is to be a Communications major, then i’d probably take the Undecided route. Communications is very competitive in USC, so make your self stand out.

^^
Check that thread out, someone was trying to go from undeclared to School Cinematic arts( Also extremely competitive at USC) In total she applied 3 times to SCA before she got accepted. This just goes to show that it is possible to switch majors, but its is a bit difficult.

If anyone wants to talk about the application PM me or just reply here, I’ll gladly help if I can, I’ve done my fair bit of research. How are the essays coming along for you guys?

I have a few other questions. Since the app is due in february, do you know if I apply over winter break if I will find out if I got in before June? Also, is it still possible for transfer students to study abroad junior year? I would be transferring as a sophomore.

@kmfloyd22 it doesn’t matter when you apply, the applications will all be reviewed at the same time, regardless of when you submit the application. Yes you are able to study abroad, most study abroad programs require sophomore standing at least, some will require junior.

Hey, guys! So happy I found this thread…totally stressing out over the application process haha. @LEGASC to answer your question, only one letter of rec is required. However, you’re allowed send in up to 3 letters. I’m sending 2 in. Hope this helps!

I’m a URM student that attends a community college in Southern California, had to work my entire time while at the CC. I will have a 3.1 GPA after the end of this semester. I am applying as a Policy, Planning and Development Major. I took a lot of advanced science courses; got nothing lower than B’s in them, worked 20 hours a week, was heavily involved with being the president of a club for two years, and ding other summer programs related to Public Policy.

What are my chances? I am applying regardless! GO TROJANS!

I already focused on UCs, so I have completed IGETC and will continue to work on my major prep for those schools, but I have a question.

Would it be a waste of time & money to apply to USC on a whim? I’m not going by their transfer requirements, but is there a possibility that they would look past that?

@MDNGHTxMarauder It is actually not required that you complete the GEs that USC wants. However, you will be competing with students who have completed their requirements. People have transferred to USC without completing any of their GEs before but it is only highly recommended that you do complete some. It also varies on your GPA, extra circulars, etc.

I’m applying to PPD as well. The average GPA for transfers is 3.7, so it doesn’t really make sense to look at the individual programs in terms of averages.

I have a 3.1, but I am still going to go for it and see what happens!

I’m looking to transfer into Marshall as junior the following fall. I know the grades of Calculus and Accounting is weighed heavily upon, but I got an A in MicroEcon and a B in MacroEcon. Does the economic grades affect my chances into Marshall?

Does anyone know how they analyze your GPA? For example, UC’s only look at transferrable classes. Does USC look at your overall GPA, rather than your transfer GPA?

PPD can get you a job after graduation. From what my friends who are attending USC right now say it is a little bit harder than Marshall tho because Marshall has all the resources. They also say Econ at USC sucks.

3.47 is kinda but maybe you have a chance is they really dig your ECs and essay.

If you are really worried about a job than going finance or accounting at CSULB or CSUF is a good idea. Probably better than even Econ at USC.
