Omg I submitted my app back in November… this wait is getting long nowwwwwwww!
Hey guys,
Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.35 (low due to stupid, non-engineering related classes)
I have a little over 100 units completed.
From what i’ve read and been told from counselors, they like to see applicants improve from their grades. So if you have low grades and you’ve been taking rigorous lasses and have been improving they love that. Also, they want to see that you’ve been taking full-time courses. They also said they care more about your grades for classes related to your major so if you got sub-par grades for something completely irrelevant it’s not as bad.
So i’m hoping that works in my favor to counteract my low GPA caused of art and anthropology classes. I’m currently taking 20 units, Calc 3, Linear Algebra, Physics, and Chemistry. So i’m definitely taking rigorous full-time courses.
and I wrote that my brother is currently going to USC for his MBA, hopefully that’ll make a difference haha. But i’m not hopeful or reliant on that information.
What do you guys think?
@aubreygiveshugs WOW you submitted earlier, I’m assuming you are a talent major? Hey btw do you have any ideas on housing if you get accepted? Im still trying to figure what will be the best option, if i do get accepted.
@mlusikyan your GPA is not to bad considering you have 100 units, and you are also a engineering major, just give it your all this semester! If you can get a high GPA this semester then I think you’re solid, you’re taking pretty challenging class this semester. So I doubt that you’ll get flat out rejected, they’ll probably want to see how you do in the classes you took this semester.
@jucery13 Oh, so they wont make a decision until I submit my fall grades?
And thanks, your message made me feel a little bit better. I’ve talked to a bunch of the counselors at Viterbi and a lot of told me not to fixate on the GPA and that many people with GPA’s lower than mine have been accepted.
@jucery13 Exactly! I applied to Thornton for the Music Industry major.
If I got a 4.0 first quarter and 3.8 spring quarter at UC Davis, do you think it is likely they will SGR me?
@hokan10, I’m no expert but I’ve been obsessively looking at all the USC transfer threads, and what I’ve seen is that regardless of GPA, they always seem to ask for the quarter/semester that is in progress for freshman students seeking to transfer there sophomore year.
@mlusikyan Yeah bro don’t even trip, I think you got this. You have a 3.35 GPA which might seem a bit far from the average, but keep in mind you are a engineering major, your courses are much harder then some other majors. If I was you id try to get at least a 3.5 GPA, thats a solid if not great GPA for how rigorous your course schedule is. Also how many USC CORE requirements, and major requirements have you competed.
Is a SGR a good thing or a bad thing? And is the timing of the SGR important at all, ie getting it early in march or late in april?
@jucery13 I hope i can get my GPA up. I’m predicting A’s and B’s, but i’m hoping theres only 1 B out of all of them.
For the core requirements I have the Writing, Diversity, Foreign Language(engineering doesn’t need it),and Category III (science). So 4/7. Is that good?
@njoi123 Neither, its pretty standard of them to ask for spring grades, especially if you are an underclassman.
@mlusikyan 4/7 is good , and your taking calc 3 and stuff which are pre reqs for electrical engineering I assume , if so then that’s great. I really hope we get in , I’m hating this waiting game
@jucery13 yeah, hopefully we’ll know soon enough.
What about you? whats your major and gpa…etc?
Guys is it bad if you submit your CSS for financial aid late?
@tonystark93 i turned mine in a week late because i had to wait to file my tax return, i don’t think it matters too much if its like within the month
@mlusikyan Well currently I am a sophomore at CSULB, I know my CSU GPA is 3.71 my USC GPA I think is 3.69. I have completed a total of 45 units, with 14 in progress. this semester I’m working on the writing requirement, Calculus (pre req for business) and I forgot which category it is but I believe it is language and arts or something Category V I believe. With this semester i will be done with all USC Core, and Pre Reqs for my major (both first and second choice majors). My first choice is Business Admin at Marshall, and my second choice was Psychology at Dornslife. I really hope that taking all the GEs and Pre Reqs put me at a slight advantage. If you get accepted, are you planning to live on campus/near campus, or will you be commuting ?
@mmoore0142
Do you think it’s too late if I turn my CSS profile in tomorrow???
definitely do it ASAP!! i know its really not going to make a HUGE amount of difference on the amount of aid you get
@mmoore0142 How much is it to fill out the CSS profile??
And are you sure it isn’t too late for me to file it in? I only did FAFSA…
its 25 for the first school and 16 for every extra one… and while it is late, they’re going to need that info as soon as possible! once you fill out the css, they may need additional documents from you so the sooner you submit the css the sooner you can find out if you need to submit any other documents
