Is it true that USC doesn’t look at hs records if you are transferring in as a junior?
@jucery13 Hey, from my understanding, I think I was rejected because of a grade in math. I would have had 60 units completed by spring of last year and I read that USC considers 64 to be junior standing, so as my first choice major I put undeclared and I used my second slot for an actual major I was interested in. I have no idea if it was foolish for me to use a slot for undeclared as I also read that USC considers just about every for undeclared as well. Anyway, long story short, I had a 4.0 when I applied and I was full-time taking 21 units. I then got an SGR, but it specifically asked for my grade in math. I then got a B in that math class and was rejected; I had A’s in all my other classes. That’s my story and to be honest, the fact that I’m struggling with math again this year is making me worried.
@ForeverGymnast21 I’m not sure if this will be the case this year what with YouUSC and all, so things could be different. From what I remember, if your account was accessed in May/June or so, there would be a nice chart (STARS I think?) filled out with all your course work. If this did not happen within 3 days, it mean rejection for some reason. I recall a lot of people that got accepted said their report was filled out within 1-2 days after seeing an OASIS update. Then again, some people could never access OASIS and got accepted, but that was the theory.
@zettasyntax if you dont mind me asking, did you put marshall as your second major last year? and is that math class calculus calculus 1 or 2? I think i could be in the same situation
To be honest, I can’t really remember (I believe it was linguistics though as that was my major for other schools like UCLA last year). So it wasn’t Marshall and I was just taking the absolute minimum math that transferred over, statistics. I did find it a little weird that my admission counselor placed so much importance on math for a social science/humanities major.
@zettasyntax That is extremely odd considering math is not necessary a major requirement for linguistics. Anyway, I hope you are accept this year!
This wait is absolutely killing me, I’m applying for CS from a respectable out-of-state 4 year with a 3.77 and I genuinely have no clue how I’m gonna fare.
Ugh, why do they release the decisions so late??
@zettasyntax that makes more sense, thanks for the clarification! Is YouUSC new this year??
The transfer applicants from American University of Paris got decisions already
@waitlistsucks omg I am so jealous!!! This wait is killing me!!! I just wanna know!!
Guys, just know that just because you get a SGR it does not automatically mean that your acceptance is 100% dependent upon it, or that they were ready to accept you barring your spring/winter grades. I’ve heard that USC gives out SGR’s to students no matter what if they haven’t completed their core reqs yet.
@ForeverGymnast21 Yeah, YouUSC wasn’t around last year, but everything within it looks exactly like it was last year, so I would assume that perhaps this OASIS “trick” could possibly be done this year as well.
I remember a lot of people that got SGR’s last year for and I’m not really sure what the trend was at all. I know some guy did have one for Marshall and was still taking a calc course while another person had applied to a really selective major (I think something relating to movies) and they also had an SGR. They were both accepted, but I forget what their complete stats were.
Guys, I’m a freshman at a 4-year university and I haven’t gotten a Winter Grade Request or SGR yet. Is this bad?
I think it’s still a bit too early to get them. I didn’t get my SGR last year until May 22nd. My semester ended around June 9th. I was finally rejected June 27th, so you can be waiting for quite a while if your semester ends late and you get an SGR.
In last years thread I know a lot of people who applied as a business major got rejected for Marshall but were accepted as a no major.
@ForeverGymnast21 Do you happen to know why they were rejected to Marshall?
@juniorwhooper101 I think they said that the letter or email they got said something about it being a very competitive major or something.
@ForeverGymnast21 hmm, so they put marshall as 1st and undecided as second?
@mmoore0142 I believe so, there probably wasn’t enough space in the business school or something, I’m not really sure.
@hokan10 no, if they want your spring grades they’ll ask at some point, and if they don’t want them you won’t be contacted about that at all. They haven’t forgotten about you or lost your file or anything
