Official USC 2015 Transfer Thread

@emwrbrtn I only took stats because I had applied as undeclared as first choice and linguistics as my intended major, so I didn’t really know if I needed a higher level math (not that I was eligible to even take it). My only EC was volunteering at LAC+USC Medical Center.

@desiboy24 Hi desi, USC will probably love that you’re now getting 4.0s after switching into a major that interests you. They supposedly love upward trends. I’m pretty sure that they hate W’s though.

If you look at the usc admission blog, sometimes the admission counselors answer questions:

“We prefer students to not have W’s on their transcript. We do take the time to understand each situation but our most competitive transfer students generally do not have W’s”

This was by Sanjeev Chanal. I would take it to mean that they prefer students not to have any, but that they consider every situation. I also have a new W on my transcript and it’s worrying the heck out of me, but I doubt it’s impossible to get into USC with a W or two.

If I’m from an area that has zero opportunity for EC in my area of interest/major, does that hurt my chances of getting into my school of choice at USC? I’m a Public Relations major and I’m just a bit concerned because I have zero experience in that field because their are really no opportunities at my school or town to gain anything from:/

Can anyone give me an opinion on my chances for USC?

It’s April, a lot of us are gonna get decisions this month . How exciting/scary

Hi everyone!
Can someone please chance me?

So I applied as a sophomore with a major in political science. I will be having 30 units completed by the end of spring semester. I applied with a 4.0, and am using the Transfer Planning guide. I might get a B this semester in political science 1, which will cause my GPA to become 3.9. When it comes to my high school, I didn’t perform so well. I had a 3.3-3.4 GPA (no AP courses). I also did very poorly on my ACT.

What are my chances?

@jucery13‌ I thought that we wouldn’t hear back until May/June

Hey everybody, I was given the option of the “Trojan Transfer Plan” this year (2015-16)? Did anyone get it for 2014-15? Some info would be greatly appreciated.

@ForeverGymnast21‌ , if you like look at the previous threads , a bunch of people from dornslifes get a response prior to May. It might be different this year though .

Hopefully most of us will get decisions this month

Yeah, I remember getting my SGR around April 24-27th last year, so this month should most likely have some form of decisions too unless they’re switching it up.

Anybody got a Winter Grade Request?

I didn’t get an email but I checked youSC and I saw in the request for my transcript in the required document.

@theneoarcadian nope, I’m on the semester system, so I’m hoping for an SGR! i’m getting really good grades this semester, and I want to show them that haha.

Has anyone ever just gotten flat out rejected? Without even getting an SGR??? That is like my biggest fear!

@ForeverGymnast21 Nope, but I haven’t gotten a winter grade request either yet even though my winter quarter ended a week ago. I’m getting anxious as to why I haven’t - I’ll be sending in my grades anyway when they’re officially posted.

Does anyone know if Viterbi decisions last year were later than most decisions? I thought I remember hearing that it was in mid to late May but I’m not sure.

Okay, guys so the USC representative for my area just came to my college for a college fair. Trust me, they aren’t even looking at our applications, I just had a full conversation with her about this. So, everyone just calm down.

I was scanning last year’s transfer thread and someone heard back as early as April 9th! I know that’s rare but still… exciting!

@RAHforHEE Are you sure that representative isn’t just talking about your school or district? Since there are different counselors for different schools and whatnot.

Also I wonder why they wouldn’t have started looking at them yet. Maybe they’re waiting on Freshmen to accept/decline their offers. One girl I know got an acceptance letter + scholarship offer at my CC. The more I think about it the more I have to believe she’s a HS senior taking college classes because no one else here has gotten a decision.

@HappyLifeMachine‌ I am pretty sure she is talking about everyone. But then again, they could start screening as early as tomorrow. She just said at this moment, no one is really being evaluated. Also, if you look on the YouSC portal, it states they will begin the screening process throughout the month of May. I believe May is the month where it gets intense, because they have to meet their commitment to giving an admissions decision to those not asked for an SGR, etc.

I don’t agree with the person who said that transfer apps are not being viewed yet. If that were the case people would not be getting sgr. The only reason they ask for spring grades is bc they want to asses how you maintain or improve, basically checking out your potential and will, that’s how I see it at least and the people who get no sgr will obviously be accepted or rejected. Rejected = they don’t see your potential or hard work it’s all subjective business. Just some thoughts.
