Just to let you guys know, there is absolutely no correlation between when you submit your application and when your decision is made.

I submitted mine the last minute the last day and got accepted within May if I don’t remember wrong.

@piano1900 I think it opens for submission at the end of September and its due late Jan I dont even remember, like I said no correlation though.

When you mention Spring grade, I was wondering: should I submit application until my fall 2014’s grade posted? Since they open for submission at the end of Sep, at that time, I am working on my fall semester and the grades of fall courses are all in progress. Can I submit my application first and then update fall’s grade after it post?(usually it’s at the end of Dec. )

I’m so ready to be done with community college that I have been looking at schools that accept applications for spring… but I can’t find anything that compares to USC (good academics, financial aid, and transfer acceptance rates…).

@Numbersz UT Austin is better ranked (yeah, yeah, rankings…) for CS than USC and they accept spring transfers. I’d look more into top CS schools. The five other schools I’m applying to are all better ranked higher than USC for CS, you should check out if they accept spring transfers. UC Berkeley, UCSD, Georgia Tech, U Washington, UT Austin

To clear up the online courses – it should be fine as long as they’re not foreign language or a laboratory science course.

Also, general question to everyone, does USC evaluate/determine a GPA from all institutions attended? I have taken classes from a four-year university (with a 3.25…) and taken two semesters worth of online courses at a community college with an overall of 3.67. Would USC combine these two?

I’m starting the Common App essays soon. I’m totally down to discuss talking about them! Would love to get to know you guys.

I’m applying to Annenberg @ahahanjun. From what I’ve heard, if you’re applying as either of the journalism majors, it’s very difficult, however, what I plan on doing is applying to communications and doing an inter-transfer on orientation day. Apparently a few CC’ers have succeeded doing so.

It also really helps to get all GE’s, diversity reqs, etc. out of the way.

@JMag95 Thanks for the list, I have looked at a couple of those schools (as well as some others like UIUC) but the out of state costs look like they would kill me since public universities are so bad about financial aid.

@NCXfer Few CC’ers have succeeded in doing what? Getting into Annenberg or doing an inter-transfer? And how exactly does the inter-transfer work? I’ve never heard of it until now.

@ahahanjun Inter-transfer. I’m not too sure how it works to be honest, but I believe it just involves applying for a major change to something within Annenberg.

@ahahanjun @NCXfer … Basically you transfer into another major offered by Annenberg. But it’s getting more difficult across the board to get into Annenberg. I’m not sure I would have made the cut this past year.

It now looks like the school is finally going to overhaul the undergrad journalism program after launching the one-year grad program. Which is awesome, because y’know, newspaper layout and design should not be a required class for anyone seeking a job and does not own a time machine.

As a former transfer student in my senior year at USC Annenberg, if anyone wants to message me with questions or what have you, I’ll try to help. Good luck.

Hey guys! I’m applying to transfer to USC Marshall for fall 2015 too. I was pretty confident about getting in before but since I started the commonapp, the whole process has gotten so real and I’ve been tripping out! Give me your honest opinion: do you think I have a good chance of getting in?

GPA: I have a high 3.5 right now but after retaking a class I took last fall and the classes I’m taking right now, I should have a 3.82 at the end of this semester.

EC’s: president of my high school’s chamber singers, volunteered to work with underprivileged/at risk youth in the LAUSD public school system at the Colburn School. In college, I worked full time for a bit, am in my CCC’s Chamber singers and have opened up my own booth at a farmers market.

Pretty confident that my essays will kick ass.

Also, thanks to everyone here! You guys have been answering questions I didn’t even know I had and it’s so comforting to be going through this stressful process with other people and knowing you guys are going through the same thing! Transfer On!!!

HEYYY! Glad we got this thread started! I’m also applying as a Fall 2015 student and just had some questions.

1) If you didn’t complete the foreign language requirement, how much of a negative impact will this have on the application?

2) Are students applying to different colleges (like Viterbi or Annenberg) looked at separately or are all students looked at in one huge group?

The foreign language requirement is just recommended for transfers. I believe it is only required to graduate USC. I don’t know if it could have a negative impact on your application, but I would think that having it completed by the time you apply would make you seem more “USC ready” in the eyes of admissions.

If you mean looked at separately as in decisions come out at different times, then yes, sort of. Usually Dornsife decisions get released first, followed by Marshall, followed by the Viterbi’s, the Annenberg’s, etc. That’s according to how I remember the 2014 thread unfolding.
