Hey guys, is it practical to appeal for your second choice major? I applied to Computer Science as first choice and Biology as second choice. I felt that I was a competitive applicant for Biology, however not so much for Comp Sci. Quick summary: 33 ACT, great EC’s, Intel ISEF Finalist for two years in a row (for a biology project), biology research under UT professor, 4.63 W GPA, no rank cuz private school OOS.
Wondering if students can still accept their CAP offer while in the process of appealing? Anyone have experience with this?
Hi @135pipe, I know this is like three years down the line…but I was hoping you could help me. I got CAP’D by UT Austin and I really REALLY REALLY want to get in. I was top 9% at the time of application, but I have worked really hard and have moved up to top 6.7%. I have already appealed, but you spoke about appealing on an error rank thing? How did you go about doing that? As in how did you prove it was an error? And congrats on getting in!
@destolio Hey, maybe it is because your school does not rank?? Maybe have your counselor write a letter explaining that?
Hey, I initially applied to CONS but ended up getting the CAP offer. I was 8% of my class when I applied and right now I’m 7.4% of my graduating class. I want to appeal stating my updated rank, and also change my major to psychology instead. Do you think I have a fair shot?
Also I got accepted to UTD and UH as biochemistry major.
The thing which is bothering me if my appeal gets rejected, should I do the CAP from UTSA or apply as a transfer student from UTD or UH (that way I don’t have to sacrifice my major)?
@NotYourBabe I would suggest completing rigorous bio coursework from UTD or UH (which are acdamecially more challenging) and then try to transfer out!!! If your major is you biggest concern, going thru CAP at UTSA and then having to transfer from COLA to CNS sounds like you might end up sacrificing your degree.
i just got in a sticky situation and most likely i will have to file an appeal. my college transcript is incomplete but i didn’t realize it so i re-uploaded the same one twice until i feel like something is weird. i emailed a counselor then i was told about the incomplete portion and she also advised me to file an appeal when my application isn’t even considered yet do i have a chance?
Is there a deadline to appeal for Fall 2107. Will appreciate if someone shares info or links? Also is it better to change to a less competitive major when appealing? I was capped and had applied for CS. I got in TAMU.
@Glee I called the regional admissions office today asking the same exact question and I was told that there is no deadline for the appeal process but it’s common sense to do so before July I’d say.
Is there anyone here experienced with the appeal process? I have considered every advice throughout the internet and even went as far as calling the university’s offices asking a bunch of questions. I got CAP’ed but I asked for Undeclared or PACE, basically wherever space allows. My appeal went in review the day it was uploaded and I was told to give it 2-3 weeks or even until after May 1. All the necessary documents have been submitted already but I could still add extra documents. Is there anything else I can do to improve my chances of getting in?
I submitted my appeal about a month ago and it has been in review for the past 2 weeks. I was originally offered PACE and I asked to be considered for the College of Undergraduate Studies in my appeal. I’m not sure if my reasoning constitutes for an appeal but I pretty much sent my newest/highest SAT score that wasn’t sent before the deadline. hopefully it works lads
@daniel6kim Best of luck! “New and compelling information” often have mixed response but the process itself is unpredictable. I hope you get UGS so that they’ll open up PACE for me Just kidding…not really…
We were told six weeks turn around time on the appeal. It’s usually 2-3 weeks, but they received an inordinate amount of appeals this year. Makes me wonder if they had some new application readers this year that weren’t up to snuff.
@austingal When I called the regional office of admission, I was told the same thing. The person I spoke with suggested that I wait until May 1. Later, I call UT’s office but this time they told me that appeal decisions roll out on a case by case basis since they were already going through appeals. I asked if there was still time for me to submit additional documents this past week and they gladly uploaded my documentation. My guess is that we won’t hear anything until May 1 and forward.
@LucidDream What additional documentation did you present?
@austingal The latter was a recommendation letter from an alumnus. I had totally forgotten about how much it could help me out considering how much he relates to me and knows me.
@LucidDream That’s great. Good luck! I hope you get in.

@ubetta17 This guy made my ears bleed with “like” his use of “like” the word “like” every “like” two seconds. I the admissions department at UT are all like him, I can see why it’s such a mess.
