OFFICIAL UT AUSTIN APPEAL THREAD/ WAIT-LISTED APPLICANT

@austingal When was your son’s appeal submitted? Watching those videos make me wonder if their emphasis on not getting our hopes high refer to those who appeal out of frustration or those with legitimate grounds for appeal…

@LucidDream It’s been a long while, don’t remember exactly. I think most applicants know their chances of of admission via appeal are slim. He didn’t need to rub salt in the wound with that video, imo.

@austingal Is it possible for the committee to offer available spaces in PACE after May 1 to successful appeal applicants? I don’t want to settle for second best but after a while, CAP is most likely a no-go.

@LucidDream I don’t see why not. I personally know several kids who are going to decline PACE, so I’m sure there will be quite a lot of openings. I also know that 90% of the students at our school who were admitted to UT do not plan to go there. They just applied as a backup because they were auto admit or just to see if they would get in non-auto. They never had any intention of attending UT. That makes me sad for all of those who really want UT, like you and others on this thread. This trend of students applying just to rack up acceptances for bragging rights really irks me.

@luciddream Have you committed to a backup school yet?

I heard that someone from my school got capped too but with a 2390 on his SAT, I personally find this hard to believe considering that score would render him a qualifed applicant. A lot of people from my school got capped too so I’m wondering if there is anything special going on this year

@austingal No, I have not. I am seriously considering taking classes at a CC in the Summer & Fall to meet the 30 credit hours requirement and hopefully transferring in the Spring if that’s possible. Honestly, it’s either UT or nothing for me due to family’s circumstances (if I get in that is). I also know quite a few others at my school who have decided to not attend UT since the UT hype during the admission process is over. :frowning: I wonder if UT looks at the applicant pool from every school or area to consider appeals.

@LucidDream That sounds like a very good backup plan. Spring will be here before you know it. Keep your head high, it’s all going to work out. Admissions does do a retrospective review of acceptances vs. enrolls by high school, but probably not in time to affect the appeal. Sending you positive vibes!

@austingal Thank you for your kind words. Best of luck to your son! I will probably call the admissions office again tomorrow for update and post it here.

Admissions said they hope to get all appeal decisions finalized mid to late April. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing…It could be because the expected number of enrollment as of now has not been met? I’d expect appeals with no legitimate grounds to roll out on a case by case basis like what I was told instead of a set date. I’ve mostly only seen decisions being released after May 1 on this thread.

@austingal Is it a good idea to upload a recommendation letter from my College Counselor at this point in time? I am hesitant because I feel like I may have gone a little overboard with the letters. They all know me very well and it reflected similarly on each letter even though I tried to diversify the entire set.

@LucidDream It can’t hurt. At least you can say you tried everything. Going ahead and upload it.

my late document appeal is approved after 10 days. this is rare because it’s not an admission appeal but just in case someone had late documents turned in like me

@Meiliu that’s great!

@austingal Admissions told me that PACE was offered only to those who applied to “rare” majors. I’ve emailed a higher-up at UT before and they said the same thing about how they were not likely to grant me PACE since I applied to Business. I tried to clarify but it was pointless since I got a reply saying “The appeal will have to speak for itself.”

Regarding the current status of appeals, “nothing is clear” as of now but they pretty much confirmed that a decision won’t be made anytime soon for me. I also asked about available spaces after May 1 but there was a slight pause, as if they didn’t want to reveal any information about students declining PACE. But then again, I could be overthinking it.

@LucidDream That’s weird about the PACE thing. Who knows. I’m betting any sort of answer will come after May 1st. It just makes sense.

@LucidDream I’m not too sure about the legitimacy of ‘only people who applied to rare majors get PACE’. I applied to Kinesiology (which is a semi-common major, and by no means “rare”) and was offered PACE. One of my friends who applied to Mccombs was offered PACE couple of years back. I do know that there is a limited space for PACE and it is filled up by a ‘first come first serve’ basis. Meaning that even people who were offered PACE might not be able to enroll in it if they accept it after UT exceeds their set available space. I think this is because being offered PACE is technically an acceptance, so PACE students are among the 7500 students that UT prefers their freshman class to be.
On the bright side, I think if the PACE enrollment does not exceed the set number then students who asked for it in their appeal might have a serious chance of getting it. Lets just hope that May 1st will consist of good news for all of us

A lot of information I’ve gotten up to this point are quite misleading. I honestly don’t know what to make of it anymore. I’ll probably stop checking my status everyday and wait until May 1st lol.

@daniel6kim Are you appealing for your choice of major?
