***Official UW Class of 2022 Decision Thread***

Thank you for applying to the University of Washington.

I am sorry to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission for autumn quarter 2018. We received more than 45,000 applications for an expected entering class of 6,800. The selection process has been very challenging, and we are not able to offer admission to many strong applicants.

I wish you the very best in your college career and great success in all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Paul Seegert
Director of Admissions

The emails have arrived!

@MSUThumbsup I got it too. Rip

I still haven’t gotten anything on my portal or any email, but on my portal there are a bunch of errors. Anyone else in the same position?

Rejected

I had pretty poor scores. I took almost all AP/Honors/Community college classes, so my weighted 3.82 GPA meant nothing for this school, unlike the UCs
UW GPA:3.302
ACT: 22 SAT: 1100
-Founder and pres of two clubs regarding social activism and the LGBTQ community
-Involved with four grass-root orgs, leadership in two, board member in a philanthropic org.
-Multiracial
-Transgender man
-four years of theater crew and cast
Accepted: Portland State University
Denied: UC Davis
Waiting on: UC Santa Cruz, and UC Berkeley lmaooo
I wasn’t too upset about being rejected, I can’t afford this place as a California resident, and I am crossing my fingers for UC Santa Cruz. I knew I wouldn’t get in, but it doesn’t hurt anything besides your wallet to try. Good luck to everyone else though.

So I was waitlisted. Is there any hope for waitlisted students? They get so many people that it’s hard to imagine them bringing in waitlisted. Also, are more people waitlisted or rejected?

UW usually hovers around 40% acceptance rate, so why is it so low this year? 6800 spots for 46k applicants is a very low acceptance percentage. I was really hopeful but I know I’m not the top 20% of applicants after hearing everyone’s stats

@ashlaurel, presumably, 6,800 is the target enrollment.

Here are the numbers from 2017:

http://admit.washington.edu/why-uw/about-uw-university-of-washington/

@ashlaurel You forget that 83% of the OOS and International students who are accepted go elsewhere, and overall 68% of those accepted go elsewhere.

D Accepted OOS
A month ago my D was visibly devastated by her ED rejection from the university her sister attends and loves.
That university admissions team made a mistake in her sister’s mind and my mind.
UW is the lowest ranked uni she applied to, but today softens the ED rejection as we wait for the other 5 uni decisions to trickle in.

I get those waitlisted or denied by any university.
You, keep your chin up and if it ticked you off, put a chip on your shoulder to excel wherever you land.

@xealen and the others who are peeved: I was denied by my SAFETY in-state MBA and a neighboring state’s MBA program, yet I was accepted to and graduated from the #1 MBA school (still in the ever rotating Top 5) and also admitted to a top Ivy MBA with a scholarship. No one can square those four admissions decisions. I could go on about other bizarre and sometimes hilarious admissions stories from friends.

You take care of things you can control. Put that chip on your shoulder to double down with your hard and efficient work somewhere else. It will all pay off in time, whether you transfer into UW, love the school you attend, or transfer to a place you like even more.

Admissions is a headscratcher.

Once you tick a couple of objective boxes, admissions is a very subjective matter.

Are decisions coming out randomly now or are there still waves to be expected? I’ve not received an email or portal update. I’m pretty sure I won’t be accepted at this point but I’m just curious where it’s at

does anyone know if UW sponsors national merit scholars?

I hope I get a spot from the waitlist. Kind of sucks that I have to wait for my top college but if I get the spot or not I guess it was meant to be. I have other great colleges to attend like UW Madison or the honors college at CU Boulder. Still waiting on California schools but Washington was always my #1
Here are my stats:
SAT: 1260
ACT:27
UW: 3.50
W: 4.167
Took 1 AP sophomore year (4)
1 junior (3)
3 senior
Took almost all honors/AP
Lobbied in DC, part of clubs, three paid jobs, 200 hr volunteer work, sports, hebrew immersion program.
Essay: felt pretty strong on this one too. Probably the reason why I’m waitlisted and not rejected maybe because my scores are low.

Did anyone on here apply for the astronomy program? I haven’t seen anyone post about it

Anyone else getting ‘No valid userid in session?’ Called and was told that its bc you just registered, except its still there 2 hours later.

Reflection:

Strengths: Essays and recommendations
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I’m a unique person beyond my test scores and am captivated by my field of study
Weaknesses: Grades
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I showed a lot of interest towards my major and had some good ECs
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected:
-Accepted: Georgia Tech (early), Clemson (w/ Scholarship)
-Denied: UT Austin
-Waiting: Harvard, Columbia, Duke, UC Berkeley, University of Southern California
Final Comments: Not sure if I’m planning on attending just yet since I was denied to UT Austin (dream school), but did get into my #2, Georgia Tech. UW was definitely top 3 for most of the application and I’m super excited to have been accepted and Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted and Good Luck to anyone waiting on a decision!

Rejected, haha. Did anyone get a strange email from UW that’s a bunch of Chinese characters and emojis? It’s from their official email, I checked, but I’m not sure what’s going on.
