***Official UW Class of 2022 Decision Thread***

Shall I wait for update on decisions tonight or wait on Sunday/Monday? That is if you work on weekends.

@UWadmissionstaff do you have an idea of when the next wave(s) will go out? Thank you for all the information you provide

Wait-listed.

Weighted GPA: 3.9
Unweighted: 3.7
SAT: 1350
ACT: 28
Major: Architecture

I was confident in my essays, my Resume was very strong as well. I have taken 6 AP courses, Cross Country & Track 4 years. Leadership role as a Freshman Orientation leader, World Language Scholars. California Scholar Member 4 years. Working outside of School. Delegate of Project Lead the Way 2017 in Orlando. CEPFI 2014 School of the Future International Runner Up. Course Work following what I want to do and many more.

I am kind of shocked, I love the University of Washington and thought I had a decent chance. This wait list makes it my third after Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UC Davis - I’m having a really difficult time with college confidence right now.

I got accepted :))
3.9 unweighted GPA
1390 SAT
graduated a year early and took a year abroad studying
President of ASB and two clubs & captain of a sports team
Was in UW’s summer stretch program
Now hopefully a girl can afford it, crossing my fingers

Throughout this entire thread I have not seen ONE out of state student with below a 3.8 unweighted accepted, regardless of their curriculum rigor, SAT/ACT, and EC’s/essays. A couple friends in the IB program, and myself in AP, worked incredibly hard to average half A’s and half B’s (3.5 GPA) in all very difficult classes, not to mention all of the volunteer work requirements required by the IB program, and we didn’t even get wait-listed despite being likely more prepared than someone with a 3.9-4.0 in mostly/all regular classes. By far the most dominant factor in this “holistic” process appears to be unweighted gpa only, probably for the purpose of improving UW’s gpa averages. I accept my rejection, know I will make the best of my situation, and my four years of hard work will come to good use elsewhere, but I feel lied to and cheated by the UW admissions. If I had to give advice to younger students on how to get into this school, I would have to tell them to avoid challenging themselves.

@MagentaMadness My son is in a similar situation. We have heard from many people that it’s extremely difficult to get into CS your sophomore year because there’s so much competition and too few spots. I think we are going to give more consideration acceptances at schools where he has already been directly admitted to his major such as Cal Poly.

Washington’s Common Data Set states that in making admissions decisions, rigor of secondary school record, academic GPA, and application essays are “very important,” and standardized test scores, ECs, talent/ability, first generation, volunteer work, and work experience are “important.” Also “considered” in making admissions decisions are character/personal qualities and state residency.

also does anyone know when we find out about honors program??

Accepted, OOS.

My requested major was Environ Sci & Terrestrial Resource Mgt, but I was placed into pre-major (arts & sciences). I’m not super clear on how the pre-major stuff works, but since Environ sci is in the College of the Environment and not the College of Arts & Sciences, does this mean I won’t be able to pursue it?

also my school has some AP with majority honors or regular or “consumer” edu and I’ve never taken a regular which is why my weighted is so high

@edawg99 I know it seems like the unweighted GPA determines a person’s outcome and even if they’re not challenging themselves they still have a better shot, but that’s not the case. I am the exception. I’m an OOS student living in Key West, Florida (just moved here, dad’s in military and I just got here from Okinawa, Japan) and I only had a 3.6 UW GPA when applying. I took 4 APs by junior year, 4 honors courses, this year I have 5 APs and 1 honors. I have a crazy positive grade trend (Mostly A’s/B’s and 1 C Freshman year to straight A’s easily now) and my SAT is a 1430 (790 M, 640 R&W). Not everybody that got in from OOS is someone who took easy courses to boost their GPA and it’s not all about the academics either. I feel like my diversity statement and essay were kicka**. My ECs were average at best, I didn’t do a crazy amount. It’s a holistic review and a very respectable one. I’m sorry things didn’t go right for you, best of luck to you and no matter where you go, that school will be getting an amazing student. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

Accepted Resident!

Congratulations and good luck!

@edawg99 honestly lol. It’s really frustrating after being promised a “holistic” review. Im not too salty about not getting in, but it really is obvious where their values lie. I would think a student who has sacrificed some of their UW GPA to challenge themselves is just as prepared as a student who has a higher GPA with an easier load. I’m disappointed in the glaring evidence that @UWadmissionstaff doesn’t feel the same.

@edawg99 hey I’m probably not the best person to speak on this issue but I understand your frustrations with your admissions decision and why you believe you and your friends didn’t receive acceptances. While I did have a high UW GPA, I did this while having 4 Higher Level IB Courses both my junior and senior years and participating in a good amount of ECs. I’m aware that other people may have ‘cheated’ they system with an easier course load to boost their gpa. I’m sure that gpa is obviously an extremely important factor in the admissions decision process but I don’t want to believe that it is the only reason I was accepted. I have seen many qualified individuals on this thread and some questionable ones so I do understand your confusion. I’m really sorry that you didn’t get in and I truly hope that you find a college that you love!(:

DS got in with relatively low GPA of 3.2 but challenging program and SAT of 1530. I feel he really benefitted from a holistic review and was seen as more than numbers.

@icecapo18, your high unweighted GPA was not the only reason you were accepted. See post #1687.

How easy is it to transfer majors at UW? I got in for Pre Public Health, but what if sometime I would want to change and do Business Administration? @UWadmissionstaff (Or if anyone knows!!)
