Anyone know the stats for how many people got Direct Admissions into their major? I got a Direct Admission into the Engineering school (intended - computer engineering)
Also, does anyone have links to any admitted students Facebook groups / forums? (sorry if this was already answered) I’d love to connect with other students
@luckymaple, I do not think anyone received direct admission to any engineering major (including computer engineering), but a certain number of students like you were offered direct admission to the College of Engineering.

I haven’t seen the UW publish any admission statistics on the handful of majors that offer direct admission (e.g., business administration or biochemistry).
@irunwiththecows I’m in state and haven’t heard either I feel like I’m never gonna get a response lol. What’s your major?
@ashlaurel @irunwiththecows Same!!! I know decisions aren’t finished being sent out, but it’s stressful when everyone else I know already has their decision.
I wish I knew when the next wave would be.
9 people from my school received direct admit to CS
@ILikeCookies2 exactly! If they would just tell us when the next wave was to be expected I’d chill out a little. I just keep refreshing my email and portal like 7 times an hour. My friends keep telling me that they have til the 15th but now that practically everyone on here has received a decision I’m going insane
@luckymaple there is an admitted students facebook group. Look up University of Washington Class of 2022 and it should come up. It wouldn’t let me post the link to the group.
@luckymaple I dont think there is a facebook group for admitted students, only students that have already decided to go to UW
Sure looks like a nice day up there today:
The group is for “prospected and accepted students to connect with each other,” that is the description for the group you do not need to be committed to the school yet.
Accepted!

@UWfromCA It was beautiful here today. Best day of the year so far!
@robnrog, I just noticed that you can rewind those live cams to earlier in the day. Sunny picnic on the Quad! The Mountain is out!
I just saw my acceptance from my UW portal but i applied to major in computer science but was accepted for “pre-sciences” ? Not sure what this means. Any help would be great! Thank you :))
@madiiwi, here is a link with information and advice for pre-science admits who are interested in CS:

3.13 UW, trending from 2.7 to 3.7
8 APs
1330sat
Above average extracurriculars, spent over a month on essays and rejected.
It sucks when a bunch of my friends and classmates consider UW as a safety. Some of the kids who got in are the kids that copy off my hw and get help from me in class which just hurts. Idk if it’s worth appealing because in reality I just have mediocre grades Didn’t really expect to get in though.
Still haven’t heard anything, and I feel like I’m the only one. At this point, I kind of know Im not gonna get in, but at least want the rejection so I can stop obsessing over the portal.
I was going to give a full answer that quoted all the important information from their site, but I think there’s a word limit on this post.
You were admitted pre-sciences. This means you are not a direct admit to CS. Even if you are in-state, direct admissions is hard. Specifically, there are 250 spots this year, and there used to [just last year] be 150. (and almost all of those spots go to in-state students - 145 last year). My neighbor was actually one of the five admitted direct out-of-state. I’m proud of him - he’s at UC-Berkeley now.
All the information about CS direct admissions is actually on the same page. Unfortunately, it’s not widely read (I found it just recently).
I was also admitted pre-Sciences applying for CS. I’m out-of-state, and my grades are bad.

This bit of info (because it has stats from 2017) has been removed from the page very recently, but it used to exist:
“If you were not offered Direct Admission, it is not an indication of your ability to excel in this discipline. Instead, it is an indication of the small number of students to whom we offer Direct Admission. For 2017, fewer than 3% of UW freshman applicants who listed Computer Science or Computer Engineering as their first-choice major were offered Direct Admission; these students had an average unweighted GPA of 3.97; average test scores of ACT 34, SAT Math 764, and SAT Verbal 758; took a rigorous high school curriculum; provided evidence of meaningful extracurricular activities; submitted strong personal statements; and were mostly Washington residents.”
“For 2018, fewer than 5% of UW freshman applicants who listed Computer Science as their first-choice major were offered Direct Admission. These students had incredibly high grades, took the most rigorous curricula offered in their schools, showed meaningful extracurricular experiences, and submitted strong personal statements. There were many highly qualified students to whom we were unable to offer Direct Admission. (We make a small number of DA offers to out-of-state students, but the vast majority of DA offers go to Washington residents.)”
Finally, since we’re less confused on how we didn’t get in direct to major, here’s info on getting in Regular Admission:
"I did not gain Direct Admission. What now?
… Regular Admission for students who enter the UW as pre-majors is still the primary admission pathway for Computer Science.
Our Regular Admission acceptance rate in the most recent year was 35%. (This was, however, prior to the most recent capacity increase.)
Preparing for Regular Admission takes most students approximately one year. Our prerequisites include three quarters of calculus, introductory programming, English composition, and an approved science course. Students should also plan to engage in extracurricular activities and other experiences that will bring strong skills to our program. Regular Admission candidates are evaluated based on a combination of college grades and personal statements."
Business Admin. What about you?
