***Official UW Class of 2022 Decision Thread***

Son got accepted…

Son accepted OOS.
3.82 UW 4.17W
ACT 32
Good extracurricular, Eagle Scout, continuous part time employment, etc
UW has been in his sights for years, even as an OOS student.

Applied for mechanical engineering but did not get direct admission to engineering. He skipped a year of math and is now in AP calculus and kicking *** with the highest grade in his class senior year. Three years AP physics. We figure he didn’t get DA because he wasn’t in AP call until this year, but there is no doubt he has what it takes to do well in engineering, something he has wanted to do since middle school.

The dilemma now is that he got an Air Force scholarship that will pay full tuition and some living expensesas long as he majors in Engineering. That’s a $150K+ scholarship and very hard to get. They will write a check to UW for full OOS tuition all 4 years but he has to major in engineering. All the pieces fell into place for him to be able to attend UW until he failed to get DA into engineering. Now we must decide whether to take the chance that he will get into engineering otherwise end up without an engineering degree and be on the hook for 2 years of OOS tuition only to end up having to transfer to another school.

I’m afraid we are going to end up having to pass up on the $150K Air Force scholarship and just send him to our in state school, a much lesser school unfortunately, but he is already admitted into engineering and the honors program there and has a full scholarship.

But if we could get an idea of what the actual chances are of getting into engineering as a sophomore at UW, then he might take the chance. He’s got the smarts and the work ethic, it’s only the mess up when he didn’t take AP calc until senior year that we feel kept him from DA engineering.

What a dilemma!

@locogringo, you present an interesting case. Maybe try an appeal.

“Direct to College
Freshmen admitted to the UW, but not to the College of Engineering, may petition their Direct to College decision.”

Any idea how many have got Direct Engineering admission?

Anyone else still not have a portal update, email, or letter?

I think everyone’s gotten a portal update? @chandlah

@daileyad me too and I live in Washington. I am the only one I know who hasn’t received a decision.

@StressedSeniorInt I haven’t, mine still just says thankvyou for applying.

No word here.

Has anybody got the physical mail

No it was funny because I got a “new husky tour date” email and I was like wut I didn’t hear back yet then checked the portal and got in but didn’t receive any sort of email

I got in! Im oos and found out by portal update.
GPA: 3.77 UW
SAT: 1300 (700 R/W 600 M) SAT 2 710 US history, 710 world history
EC: Editor in chief school newspaper, editor at an online magazine, run a book blog etc.
I applied as an English or history major but it doesn’t say anything about that in my portal.

also I hope this is helpful but got into comp sci and econ! not sure if I’m going here yet but would love to meet anyone going to UW next year

No portal, no email no mail :frowning:

My son is a junior at UW and was admitted as pre-engineering as well with similar AP’s taken. He did take AP Calculus
as a junior in high school but that didn’t help. My understanding is that the only people that usually get direct admit have done the dual enrollment program at UW while in high school. Good news -because of all his AP credits, he was able to get all required classes done his Freshman year and applied to the Mechanical Engineering major at the end of his freshman year and was accepted. He figured out before deciding to go there that UW accepted students overall to the school and then just gave anyone whatever major they put, since most get accepted into a pre-major classification. So, he felt more confident about the competition because of his AP success The weeding out is done later. Freshman year was a bit stressful with grade pressure, but I think it helped him focus a little more on studying vs. freshman partying and he’s continued to do well and loves it there.

@locogringo I forgot to tag you in the above

@locogringo I forgot to tag you in the above

@momofboyz The Engineering Undeclared system is new this year and means something a bit different from the old Pre-Engineering admit.

Waitlisted after a gap year
In State
UW GPA 3.7
W GPA 4.2
5 AP
10 Honors
Student of the Quarter
Senior of the Month
SAT 1240 (600 Math, 640 English) - weak spot
ECs: 4 years of choir (Assistant to the Choir Director, Choir President), 2 years of cheer, 2 years swimming, NHS, Irish Dance, Irish Whistle, Piano
Graduated with highest honors and Alpha Honors Diploma
Major: Music Education - Vocal Emphasis
Ethnicity: Mexican, Middle Eastern, and European
Selling Point: I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis right at the beginning of my junior year. I was hospitalized and had to have my large intestine removed within two months of beginning symptoms. It was a struggle to not only graduate but to graduate with my class. Not only did I do this, but I kept up my grades (almost all As in AP/Honors classes) to graduate with the highest possible honors I could have. I am also currently writing a book about what I went through.

I also applied last year and was waitlisted as well, though I thought proving that I could graduate through my medical issues would make me a better candidate. Both my aunt and dad attended UW; he graduated with an engineering degree and she did with a law degree as well being top of her class. I’m the only child that has wanted to go here, and it utterly sucks to not know if I can go immediately. If I don’t get in off of the waitlist, I will attended a CC then transfer. I was bred to be a Dawg.

Happy to say the portal finally changed after this long wait and she was accepted!
