The portal updated at 10 tonight. I got in!
That’s so exciting. Congratulations @higuys19 You’re gonna love UW if you end up going there.
Thanks! I hope you get word from UW soon!
@higuys19 Congrats!
There are Admitted Students Preview days. https://admit.washington.edu/visit/asp/
@AwaitingApplicant131 I haven’t seen anything about how many CS majors get in on appeal but I did just read an article about how many get in total through all pathways:
Lured by the prospect of high-salary, high-status jobs, college students are rushing in record numbers to study computer science.
Now, if only they could get a seat in class.

At the UW’s Seattle campus, two-thirds of the freshmen and sophomores who apply to major in computer science don’t get in. But this spring, students who get a letter of acceptance to the UW will also find out immediately if they’ve been admitted to the UW’s computer science major. By telling students they’ve already secured a spot in the major, the UW hopes to relieve the frustration and stress of getting admitted to one of the most popular programs on campus.
Under the new policy, UW Seattle aims to enroll about 200 computer-science majors directly as freshmen. Another 100 slots will be set aside for students who decide, after they’ve already admitted and are taking courses as freshmen or sophomores, that they want to major in computer science or computer engineering. And about 60 to 70 seats will be set aside for students who transfer into the UW. Most transfers come from the state’s community colleges.
The UW says it is not necessary to take computer programming in high school to be considered for the major. Instead, they encourage applicants to take advanced classes, especially in English, math and science.
Congratulations! higuys19. Did you get into CS?
Anyone here planning to apply for ACMS next year?
Can students who were waitlisted appeal or only students who were rejected?
The Seattle area has exploded in population in the last 30 years. Employers here include: Boeing, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Oculus, Starbucks, Paccar, Microsoft etc. so it has attracted lots of very well educated families from all over the USA and the world. The local high schools public and private are some of the best in the nation and therefore just the local population is very well-educated. The UW is now 40% Asian from Asian-Americans from mostly Indian and Chinese families plus very popular with Asian international students. It is becoming more and more competitive. Especially if you apply direct to major CS, Business or Engineering - you really have to be outstanding. They only admit a small percentage. Your daughter sounds like an excellent student she is just up against a very tough pool of candidates.
I called the admissions office yesterday and spoke to someone to ask about the P&G and they said it will be listed in the letter. We still have not received anything in the mail but the online portal says she was accepted. Nothing at all about $ yet.
My d got in but out of a big group of friends only two more got in, lots were waitlisted and a couple were rejected outright which noone expected.
3 minority boys were rejected or waitlisted and feel really mislead by the udub as they did everything the udub asked and one was on campus just last week on a leadership thing. They all are outstanding students but were encouraged by Shades of Purple days (for minority students) to apply to the business school direct which probably was a big mistake seeing how competitive it is. At another similar school with a diverse student body whose curriculum is not as tough a lot more kids from minority groups got in. My d has friends at both schools. Everyone was shocked that none of these three boys got an offer.
I was admitted DA to Business Administration but forgot to post my stats in the heat of the moment. 1490 SAT 33 ACT 3.907 UW GPA 10 APs music and student govt extracurriculars. I was super shocked to get this acceptance seeing that my stats are among the lowest of those accepted to the major.
It also doesn’t help that I haven’t gotten my letter in the mail yet and I live less than an hour away from the university. I feel like I won’t really believe it until I have the letter…
My portal on myUW went from saying that I would be notified when a decision has been made on my application (then I got a notification email saying I was wait listed), to saying that I was wait listed. Checked again today, and it went back to saying that I would be notified when a decision has been made on my application. Is there any explanation/ meaning for this weird change in my portal? Since I have already been notified, there should be no reason that my portal should have changed back to saying that I would be notified, due to the fact that I already have been.
@xfilipinodudex did you accept a spot on the waiting list or something like that? That’s the only thing I can think of unless you submitted an appeal
Also I’ll be attending the April 4th admitted student preview! Hope to meet y’all and make new friends! (Honestly I’m already guessing us SoCal kids will stick together anyhow haha)
@noah2425 No I have not accepted a spot on the waiting list yet, although I plan to do so. I also plan on submitting an appeal, but I am waiting until the quarter ends at the community college I go to (im Running Start) next Friday so I can send in my transcript from there as part of the appeal.
Sent in my appeal! Hopefully some good outcomes will happen.
Once again congrats to everyone who has been accepted!
@drumminggeek87 have you heard back yet?
@SeniorSzn Still nothing. You?
