Hey guys, I’m Amanda. I was accepted ED, so I hope to see all of you in the fall!
Dramacratic - I actually live in Poughkeepsie. On the other side of town, but same idea. The town is actually alright once you get used to it. We’ve got the essentials - good restaurants, movie theatres, bowling alleys, etc. The mall is decent, and it is just a short ride from NYC (about 1.5 hours for $24 both ways). It’s by no means a thriving urban center, but it’s not like you’re in the middle of nowehere either.

Don’t pass up Vassar because of the location!! I promise, the campus and school makes up for anything and everything Poughkeepsie lacks. haha
Good luck everyone!

I applied on the 28th or 29th, something like that. Definitely a few days before the deadline, when they were less swamped. You should get yours soon, though, since most other schools say they’ll send them out by mid-January.

Haha. It’s beyond difficult not to when it comes to one of your top choice schools. It’s only worse for RD…the anxiety gets significantly more intense with each application. Oh well.

@SkittleRose, I’d give it another week. I’m sure Vassar purposely held of on putting your scores on file because they knwo you’re applying RD. Awful, I know, but I’ve come to realize, with Vassar’s chill attitude about admissions/financial aid comes inefficiency.

Yeah, I noticed how chill they were! My YourSpace wasn’t uploading correctly, so I couldn’t submit it online with my Supplement. Called the admissions office about 5ish days later, and they said that I could just send it over via mail, and didn’t even give me a deadline.

^Probably because their office is going to be swamped for a while, so even if you were to miss a ‘deadline’ they could always review your app after they get through the piles that have already been completed. The problem with YourSpace being an optional component, however, is that they could review your app assuming it has already been completed so if I were you I’d make sure they waited till the YourSpace was in (assuming your YourSpace is something substantial).

I am a hopeful Vassar mom. My child was deferred from Early Decision I to Regular Decision, so the stress goes on and on… was anyone else deferred? I don’t know how we will wait until late March/early April. Backup applications were submitted to other colleges, but it was hard to mount enthusiasm since the love is truly for Vassar.

You’re spot on. I was rejected ED and deferred EA - two disappointments only slightly before the rest of my applications were due. My only consolation was that I already had a place at a considerably strong program.

errrgh i am so nervous … how am i going to wait until april lol.
anyone else have midterms this week? hopefully those tests will keep my mind off of all of this…

If it’s any consolation, I’ve graduated from HS so I have nothing to distract me from the wait. In any case, think of it as 10 weeks to go; that might help.
