Applied for VSB! I have pretty good stats for Villanova, but I keep hearing that business is a lot harder to get into than Villanova as a whole. Hoping for good news in December!
Just wondering, how selective is the business school?
@pasmother @class0f2017 VSB is very selective. Here are my S stats and he did not get in. 4.0 GPA, 9 APs, 30ACT, 1310 SAT math/reading, treasurer of NHS and senior class, 4 yr varsity athlete, work, community service, etc. I am thinking he probably needed a minimum of 32 on ACT and higher SAT scores. Bloomberg recently ranked VSB as the number one business school and that is making it more difficult. My S applied last year. Good luck to you!
^ @pkchamp89 Where did your son end up?
@londondad He is at Villanova but he is in CLAS. He had applied EA to VSB and was deferred. At that point after speaking with the ACon, he switched his application to CLAS for RD consideration. Villanova is his dream school and he couldn’t see himself anywhere else.
^ Good outcome. Glad it all worked out for him.
@londondad working hard. Hasn’t given up on VSB yet. Trying to transfer into VSB. See what happens. But, he will major in math if it doesn’t work out. Even harder to transfer as it is to get in originally.
@pkchamp89 Hi, my stats are pretty similar to your S but with a few points higher ACT. Hope he is enjoying Villanova. Best of luck with his transfer!
@class0f2017 Hi! I think if your stats are higher on the ACT you should be very good! Good luck to you!
Just a quick thought in the selectivity of VSB. Even know my S seemed like a strong candidate it just goes to show you how many other students are as strong or stronger. So, admissions really looks at every aspect of each application. You need to have it all. Can’t be missing one piece. I think his standardized test scores, although respectable, just didn’t give him the edge he needed. There in lies the higher rate of selectivity. It’s definitely eye opening when a student who has worked so hard all his academic career falls a bit short. It’s a difficult a life lesson but one worth learning. But, all good in the end.
^^ @pkchamp89 Tell him not to worry - you don’t need a business degree to have a successful career in business. Many banks like to hire Math majors as they prefer their quantitative skills.
@londondad Thank you! Good to know. I will relay the info.
@pkchamp89 I also think it must haveve been the test scores. I think Villanova’s overall range is a 30-33, so a 30 was a little low as its 25th percentile. Of course, a 30 is still an amazing score in the scope of things, considering its probably a mid 90s percentile score. Everything else looked great though.
Is CLAS, undecided, much less selective as compared to VSB. Where would those stats of prior admits be found?
@bk2021 Yes. It isn’t as difficult to get into. There are more spots available in CLAS as compared to VSB which has a fraction of the amount of students as CLAS. Of all the colleges at Villanova, CLAS is the largest I believe. As far as I know, Villanova does not publish the stats of admits by school, only cumulatively. Go to the common data set for Villanova and you can see a more detailed breakout of the cumulative scores by numerical range.
Thanks! anyone else?
.
@bk2021 I would say a 30 ACT would give you a good shot in CLAS at Villanova. And top 10% is your class would help too. And I do personally know many people that got deferred originally CLAS and Business that got in regular decision. So if you get deferred, definitely stay in touch with them and update them. Good luck! Villanova is really a great place!
And I do agree that if you aren’t in the business school it doesn’t mean you can’t have a great business career. I would just make sure I utilized the career center frequently and checked when all recruiting events are and made sure I attended as many of them as possible. I think the Villanova name can carry you far, especially in the NY and Philly areas.
Another unclear Topic. ACT scores are now SuperScored at VU. This wasn’t always the case in prior years. So when they show stats, do they show the SuperScore in their profiles? Just curious since my D is at 29 (30SS) on theACT…applying undecided CLAS
