deferred from BC with a 32! Better get into nova! my brother heard the 19th at 10 pm last year
Accepted to BC CSOM and Northeastern honors with a 34 ACT. Trying for Presidential at Villanova. If I get into Villanova, it will probably be more expensive than those two options without some scholarship money along with the need based aid.
Well everyone at Villanova leaves for winter break mid next week so they will have to get them out before that
Got deferred from Northeastern as well. Really nervous cause I thought I had a really good shot, but apparently I was wrong
Is the acceptance rate for early action lower than the regular decision acceptance rate of 49%?
@woalwals I think I saw earlier on the thread that EA is lower, but maybe it will change a bit from last year since now we can get rejected EA (I think that is new this year?)
rejected by Tufts ed, deferred from Northeastern ea. I need Villanova…
deferred gtown and boston college…scared to death right now, applied to nova’s business program things are going to be rough
but like villanova is 50% and all those colleges like BC and northeastern are like 20%, wouldn’t be as worried.
@woalwals VSB is not 50% and will be way more selective this year, being that they were ranked number 1.
Praying decisions come out tomorrow! I need to know!
VSB - They really aren’t ranked #1 overall. Only Bloomberg ranked them #1 and then said they are not doing rankings anymore. US News and Forbes, who rank all them time, have them MUCH further down than #1. Any other rankings have them much further down as well. It’s still a very good business school, but #1, no way. VSB is definitely not a 50% acceptance rate. Much lower. Winning the NCAA Championship probably didn’t hurt their application volume either.
@Swimming123 Bloomberg is still a really reliable source, and if they think VSB is ranked #1 in the country that they have good reason to believe so. They don’t just pull rankings out of nowhere. VSB might not be #1 in every ranking, but you can’t discount it being ranked first in one ranking. Also, are the other rankings you are talking about referring to business schools as a whole, or specifically undergrad, cause VSB was ranked #1 UNDERGRAD business school.
NJ: Waiting for Villanova. Applying to Pres Scholarship. Accepted to Northeastern Business, Deferred to Boston College. No one from his school was accepted to BC.
@acs116 - I don’t think any ranking system is perfect, but Bloombergs methodology was so flawed and they received so much blowback, that they stopped ranking. US News ranks them at #63 in its latest ranking of UNDERGRADUATE business and it doesn’t even make Forbes top 50. That is a HUGE difference from #1 - but then again, they are rankings and they are all flawed in many ways. In my opinion, the #1 ranking is a huge stretch, but it is what it is and VSB is still a great business school. We can agree to disagree on the impact of that ranking. The bottom line is the acceptance rate to VSB is more in the 30% range vs. its overall 48% acceptance rate. I have one brother at Michigan BS and another at VSB. Good luck with your acceptances!!
Anyone think EA will be released at some point today?
I’ve applied to CLAS with a 1330 SAT, 93 GPA, several leadership roles in school activites, several awards regarding art and sports. I am a legacy and was rejected from Boston Colelge’s school of nursing (toughest school for nursing).
@Swimming123 - You are spot on with VSB…no matter how it is ranked, or perceived, it only accounts for about 400 first year enrollees of the total 1,700 at VU. So size also matters in driving stats…will see…oh yes, and get into CLAS and try to transfer? Beware, you may be stuck in the CLAS and need to be content…back doors are discouraged…
I follow the B school rankings closely and I agree that they aren’t always consistent. But Bloomberg who stopped doing rankings now does them again, and honestly their methodology in my opinion is solid. They rely heavily on employer feedback, which I think is a great measurement. I think in the NYC and Philly areas in particular Villanova B school grads have a fabulous reputation and are very sought after. Yes, they get clobbered in US News and I saw the Forbes list, too. But that may have more to do with the fact that they are more regionally known. I know a student there now who is a junior and has a few nice internship opportunities for this coming summer with great firms. I also know a recruiter from a big bank who says she would take a Villanova grad over a Wharton grad any day because they are team players and don’t have a sense of entitlement. The net of it is, if you are lucky enough to get in to Villanova Business, it’s a great school to consider and I’m sure you will have many opportunities after you graduate. The grads have a great reputation and with good reason. Good luck to everyone!
I heard from a confirmed source that EA comes out on the 20th
