For those who are anxiously waiting for the decision..let's have a little chat before we see our future!

so do u think they have a sub 10 percent acceptance rate this year? How many of you had interviews btw?

Did ANY intl’ students have interviews?

Well, 19,300 - 1,600 (admitted EA) - 1,500 (rejected EA) = 16,200.

100 x 1,600 / 16,200 = 9.8%

So right about 10%, considering all of these numbers were approximations.

Good luck potential classmates!!! :D

Some statistics: The acceptance rate from 2004 was about 40%.

In 2008 Chicago admissions saw a 19.3% increase in the number of applicants, the acceptance rate dropping from 34.9% to a 27.8%, then a record low.

With the advent of the Common Application, the admissions rate in 2009 fell only one percent to 27.8% despite a 9% increase in the number of applications, due to the 5.7% increase in the number of students accepted. (Approximately 13,600 applied for the Class of 2013.)

Hm. We’ll see how this goes.

I’m international, I had an interview.

I’m also international and had an interview.

Which countries are you guys from?

It’s going to be 12%. We went over this a while ago.

Hopefully you guys all get admitted and try not to be nervous. I’m not nervous at all, oddly enough. Though, that’s probably because I know that I have almost zero chance of getting accepted.

why do u say that?

@gary7: I’m from Romania.

@Adriana- Cool! What is the selectivity of an interview in Romania? I’m from India btw.

My regional rep basically implied that I was basically deferred on a whim and that I had virtually no chance of getting admitted when I talked to her. And, she didn’t answer any of the emails I sent her. I might have inferred too much from the tone and content of her speech but, regardless, my chances were low to begin with.

Whoo! 7 Days if the 3/25 date is the actual admissions date!

Was that admissions date proven by UofC, or was it one we established? :/

WHAT?! I didn’t think interviewers were allowed to imply that kind of stuff. It’s mean. My interviewer told me they don’t see any of our application beforehand so yours really had nothing to base that judgment on, Motion.

I had my interview in London and the lady I met with was SO LOVELY. I felt terrible for being late (not my fault - public transport failed me with a late bus, then a man gave me TOTALLY the wrong directions and I got hopelessly lost ARGH) but she was really nice about it and we had a great chat.

What are you guys doing tomorrow during the day, are you at school?

@drpvv, admissions date is tomorrow.

Gary: I’m not sure what you mean by selectivity, but what I can tell you is that I have a classmate who also applied and had an interview as well. Mine was really nice and relaxed, even though it was on Skype. We talked about stuff ranging from computer science to the weather and the Romanian educational system. It was more like a conversation rather than him asking questions and me giving answers.

I said regional admissions rep, not interviewer. I called her the day after I was deferred EA. She’s the one that’s supposed to argue for my acceptance in committee, so, yea…

Oooooh sorry I misunderstood you. Still, that’s not right of her to do that!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
