Official waitlist cal poly slo

I did contact the admissions office today and I asked if there was a possibility that we would be notified prior to July 15th (as stated in the letter I received). I was informed that it is possible but not to count on it because it is highly unlikely. Not to reassuring…

July? I thought it was May 15th…Are you a transfer?

Also one of my friends told me that she was accepted off the waitlist last week, apparently they sent an email saying congratulations, etc. Im not sure if she was kiddng around or not…I need to ask her again.

Yes, I am a transfer student and I was told we would hear by July 15th. Your friend that was accepted last week, what was her major?

Architecture. I need to ask her again if she really was accepted, Im having trouble believing her because I dont know anyone else who got off the waitlist and it seems pretty early to notify people…many accepted people havent even made a decision yet. But really, I dont know!

Reviving the thread again. Anyone been accepted? May 1 is the SIR deadline for the accepted, so we should (in theory) be notified in that two week window…

Okay, yes my friend really was accepted, she was notified by email. Its strange, but I’m guessing she was an exception? Her SAT scores were really high.

I hope they tell us soon! This wait is unbearable.

My son was notified by email late last night that he has been taken off the wait list at Cal Poly SLO for General Engineering and has now been accepted. When he was wait-listed nearly two months ago, I called and spoke with two admissions counselors there. I was told by both people on separate occasions that this was a record year for applicants, and that they were advising wait-listed students to “pursue other opportunities,” because the odds of getting moved from the wait list to accepted status were very slim, given the number of wait-listed applicants. I asked who was in charge of admissions, and my son wrote a letter to this person, expressing his genuine interest in SLO as his first and only choice, and that he’d appreciate any efforts on their part to move him up the wait list. He received a personal reply that same day, saying he’d been moved to the top of the list, and would be “among the first” of the wait-listed applicants to get in, and they wished him luck. Lo and behold, last night he was accepted…Whether this has anything to do with him writing that letter is unknown, but that’s what we did. He was also accepted to the UCs he applied to and declined, opting instead to enroll in our local CC (just last night, ironically) and re-apply to Cal Poly as a transfer in two years. We’re still kind of shocked, because it seemed like such a long shot, but now he’s in. Good luck to everyone here who is still waiting.

Congratulations to you and your son! The letter really paid off for him! Now he can move forward with accepting admission and the housing application. The engineering department at CPSLO is great! My son will be there too and we are very impressed and excited. (Materials Engineering) Did you go to Open House?

Congratulations slowaitlist. Now your screen name is completely ironic, and that’s a good thing…

@slowaitlist,

did your son write a letter by email or by snail mail? I also wrote a letter to admissions, they never responded, but I just assumed that they saw my letter. Is it too late to call them and doublecheck??

I’m a transfer student and I also sent a letter to the admissions office and got a similar e-mail back saying that I would be one of the top applicant’s considered for admission off of the waitlist. I, however, have still not heard anything. Cal Poly was the only school I applied to, I have a 3.9 and all of the requirements fulfilled and then some with a total of 69 units.

I think it’s unfair to make transfer students wait until July, especially because it will be very difficult for those who do not live relatively close to find housing/ an apartment.

FYI about the time that einob’s friend was accepted my son got an e-mail from CP. They wanted to know what his status was in regards to his college decision. He told them he had not made a decision yet, and that he was disapointed they had waitlisted him. He has not heard from them since. I thought is was very strange. I guess that is one way they weed them out. He has, at this time, decided to go to UCI as a mech enginering major with his friends. He is very happy!

Very interesting! I too wrote a letter to the admissions office and received an email back saying that they would move me to the top of the list. From what I am reading (several threads) everyone is moving to the top of the list. I am still waiting. Business Administration transferring with 74 units exceeded all minimum and core requirements with a GPA of 3.6. Hopefully we all hear something soon… Good luck to everyone!

^^

thats weird…
did you have IGETC done or CSU general ed done?

Since the application includes only grades and test scores, no recommendations or essays, what criteria can they be using to accept students with lesser scores over those with outstanding scores?? Could it be ethnicity?

I completed IGETC

[Common Data Set - IP&A - Cal Poly](IR Home - Institutional Research - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo)

If you go to this site and then click on the data set for 2008-2009 and then scroll to page 5, you will see the following:

Do you have a policy of placing students on a waiting list? Yes
If yes, please answer the questions below for fall 2008 admissions.

Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 440
Number accepting a place on the waiting list:
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 115
Is your waiting list ranked? Yes
If yes, do you release that information to students? No
Do you release that information to school counselors? No

So, clearly the waitlist is ranked and the good news is that 26% of kids were admitted from the waitlist. If you really want to go to CP, I would call admissions and see what you need to do to get to the top of the waitlist.

Well, if you check the 09-10 data it says 425 were put on the waiting list but only 33 were ultimately admitted. That’s a 7.7% acceptance rate.

My student was removed from the wait list and offered admission at CPSLO this week, and in my written communications with their Admissions department, it is my understanding that the actual number of Fall 2010 wait-listed students is about eight times higher than the figure listed above for Fall 2009, and the number who have been offered admission from the wait list in 2010 is roughly half the number of those offered admission from 2009. Yes, a very low number: .1%? Very little wiggle room this year, it seems.
