2Leashes, I am sort of a newbie at all the terminology. I thought a safety school was one you chose as a backup to your first. That is what I meant. I put UCLA down because I know it is a good school, but it does not appeal to me like Cal Poly does. That is why I was not upset that I didn’t get in. I would not have chosen UCLA over Cal Poly.

Sorry, I probably didn’t use the right terminology. I am on pins and needles about Cal Poly though…

I read earlier that admissions counselors said the cutoff for engineering was around a 4.1 and a 1400 SAT.
I’m wondering if that applies to everyone or just in state because I have an out of state friend that got in with much lower statistics.
I live in state and was waitlisted with a 3.98 and my SAT score was not a 1400.
I’m wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

It’s a mystery why some get in with lower stats - especially when Cal Poly doesn’t seem to care much about EC’s. Good luck fate13 - hopefully they won’t make us wait till May 15…

Well, as expected, my son was accepted into UCLA…He got into the aerospace engineering department in the School of Engineering. This is the same son who was waitlisted from Cal Poly. He was admitted to UCLA, and yet wailisted for the same major at Cal Poly… Doesn’t make any sense to me…OF course, we live in LA and so far he is saying he does not want to go to UCLA, as it is too close to home. And he knows it too well. So he probably will not be attending. Still, we are proud of him considering how competitive that school is. So far he wants to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder…Congratulations to others who were admitted to UCLA! And to Cal Poly!

^see, i just don’t understand. your gpa is pretty good, last fall the selected gpa for business was a 3.33…did you have all of the prereqs for you major, extra curriculars, and volunteering stuff down?

I think that this year the bar was set much much higher for all majors since there’s no spring registration, cutbacks, and since there were way more freshman applications this year. Just a bad year to be going off to college, unfortunately.

yeah i heard about that too. i mean I get their reason but how do they know cal poly isn’t your number one choice. Maybe they thought with a 3.5 as a transfer business major you got into like one of the good UCs and you would have chosen those schools over cal poly…idk.

I’m applying next year as a transfer for liberal studies and since only CSUs are the only ones that have that major and i did all the pre reqs for cal poly and only cal poly they’ll get the hint. If they reject me, and based off of what you’ve been hearing well, then I really don’t know how they are choosing their transfers.

Still waiting here! I just wonder if you do not get in May 15 do they send you an official rejection letter, or do they just have no further communication with the waitlist applicants? My friend told me last year her daughter was taken off the waitlist on Cinco de’ Mayo.

I still haven’t heard anything. I’m not supposed to hear until July 15th (I’m a transfer). But I’m not stressing too much since I got in to UCSD and UCSB.
