Official Yale 2009 Transfers!

hi chris

Did you apply to MIT, Caltech, or any other Engineering reputed school? If you are determined on MechE at Yale. I urge you to try to do some more research, and possibly talk to some people, maybe current MechE students there, about the program. You’ll be more informed that way. Hope for the best.

Sincerely,
TransferAccepted

Great advice TA.

Thanks jrrrmph

Yeah I know I should have applied to mit, but as for caltech, I applied last year, got in after going through all that transfer exam and the stress of the application only to be told that international students can get fin aid. It sucked. As for mit, they need the sat subject test which I have not taken before. I didnot even want to transfer until feb this yr so that was definitely out of the question.
I have applied to cornell though and hopefully I can get in. Besides, I talked to a current yale student about the eng program there. He told me that it is pretty good but maybe not as good as say that of mit or stanford. I just wanted other opinions on this issue.

One more thing, I spent a considerable amount of time on their seas website and it seems that they have interesting research programs going on which I would like to be part of. (Maybe I should atleast get accepted first, before i start defending their Engineering program)

chris, I guess my main point is that I don’t find your reasons for Yale as convincing as you do, ceteris paribus. But what do I know, perhaps admissions will see something in you. Best of luck dude.

yeah jrrmph, I understand what you are saying, there would be that underlying question of why does he want to come here to study MechE , which is surprisingly tricky to answer. I tried my best to answer it though, as well as to bring in other factors too. did you apply to any other schools?

Hi Chris

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like the ivies are your last option. All I can say is good luck, and don’t give up yet. Cornell seems to have a better engineering program than Yale. You’ll thrive there. If Cornell admits you, you should probably check it out. So, don’t give up yet.

Sincerely,
TransferAccepted

yeah TA, Cornell is my first choice, they have a better engineering program and ultimately thats what would benefit me the most.

glad you see it that way chris

Hey guys

In exactly 3 weeks from now, we will know our admission decisions. I urge you all not to give up hope. Instead, hope for the best. I ultimately hope that I meet many of you at Yale. On May 13 last year, and the year before, the admitted applicants received an email congratulating them of their admission. I hope this will be the same case for us. I wish that we would all anticipate the coming of that date with positivity and optimism. “Between the optimist and the pessimist, the difference is droll. The optimist sees the doughnut; the pessimist the hole!”–Oscar Wilde. Seeing the donut is the first step to getting it. Hope for the best to get the best.

Sincerely,
TransferAccepted

unfortunately, not many transfer spots are open at Yale, so most of us won’t get in. Not being pessimistic, just being a realist. Nevertheless, I do hope some of us here get in.

TA,

Love what you wrote, and I completely agree. Hope for the best in order to get the best! :)

thanks jemma

Don’t give up hope

lol good to see someone at CC doesn’t have a stick in their ass, way to go TA.

Chicago, did you apply to every top school out there? What’s your top choice?

I share your concerns Viola lol. Prestige hunting makes me want to vomit.

^
same here. Will it really enhance the chance to get in elite institutions from sending out tons of the applications? i dont think so… so i didnt bother…

Hi guys

I chose to apply to Yale not for it’s prestige, social status, but for the community. Yale has a distinct community that not only encourages students to thrive intellectually, but also socially. I truly believe that I would feel at home at Yale. I would feel comfortable there. I also think that I will have a lot to add to the Yale community. This is why I applied. I hope that some of you applied to Yale with these sentiments in mind, in contrast to narrowly applying to Yale solely for the prestige, because if you did, that makes your admission sweeter and more ecstatic.

Sincerely,
TransferAccepted
