Official Yale 2009 Transfers!

thanks for all the info but one more question. Iive only recently decided that i want to try for schools outside of california, but the thing is im a sophomore right now, and if i apply this fall it will be my 3rd year at my community college. so would i be eligible to apply for junior transfer? i have not taken any upper division classes at all.

i posted the same thing in the brown transfer thread to see how thats like. prior to this i never really thought about where i wanted to go and just ended up applying to some of the UC’s, but now that i acutally think about it, i would prefer not to attend one of the UC’s.

thanks for the help everyone

bump bump, where did you all go?!

You won’t be eligible. To any of the Ivies.

oh man, really?
wouldn’t i still be considered a sohpomore since i haven’t taken any upper div classes?

As an example, Y says:

[Who is Eligible to Transfer? | Transfer Students | Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.yale.edu/admit/other/transfer/who.html)

Who is Eligible to Transfer?

To be eligible to transfer, students must by June of the current academic year, have a high school diploma or GED, and at least one year and no more than two years of transferable post-secondary-school college credit.

Captain, please go to the source on these types of questions. While we have many knowledgeable posters on CC, you should always fact check using the primary source (eg. the college website).

this sucks

so i cant apply to yale , brown, stanford???

You could not attend college next year and apply. But given the transfer acceptance rates for those schools it’s not an option that I would recommend; particularly since coming from a CCC, you have an excellent shot at the UCs.

Hi Captain.

I’m sorry that you aren’t eligible to apply to the ivies. If I were you, I would try to make my GPA as close to a 4.0 as it possibly can, and get involved in more EC’s, you know, the kind that make students stand out. Then you can still have a chance at an ivy grad school. I once knew a CC student who did the same. She now attends Yale Medical School. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
TransferAccepted

^
haha…that’s funny, man.

thanks for the help all. Especially transferaccepted and jrrmph. Best of luck to everyone

Don’t worry about your EC’s, Captain. Just get your GPA as close to a 4.0 as you can.

yale didnot receive my transcript. had to fax one to them and then send it by email, I feel that would jinx my chances but i still have hope. One question though, is anyone going to study engineering at yale? I havenot seen too many on this thread. I wonder if am at a disadvantage.

Hi chris

I haven’t received any complaints about my application yet, but I think you would be better off by making sure that they receive all your application materials. I don’t think being an engineering major will be to your detriment either. Hope for the best.

Sincerely,
TransferAccepted

^^
well, chris, first tell you I’m deft. not apply to engineering major. And major selection may be a consideration in the admission process, however I’m not a hundred percent sure though. (I mean if you are the only one applying to engineering major, that would be sorta advantage.)
And dont be upset just b/c yale didnt receive your transcripts. Two of the colleges I have applied didnt received either my college transcript or HS transcript.(I didnt apply many schools, so two of them are not a relatively low odds.) Just resend them and you will be fine.

transferaccepted i saw that you go to UofI… i know a lot of kids there and you probably know a lot of kids at UIC which is where i currently go.

maybe i’ll see you at a new school next year!

wow, that’s good to know. Hopefully, there’ll be 2 chicagoans at Yale next semester.

Hey chrisjah, I’m a BME. How about you?

nice laxman8907, I am studying aerospace eng at my present school but i applied for Mech E and Cs at yale. It’s good to know there are others out there. I hear yale’s BME program is pretty strong.
Thanks transaccepted and gtback. I faxed my transcript to them. hopefully my application is now complete. I am going to call them to confirm though.

In my humble opinion, BME can make sense (not sure of the strength of the program), but MechE seems kind of arbitrary. I wonder why one would apply to Yale for that, given MIT, Caltech, etc.
