SAT I (by section): 2400
SAT IIs: 2400 Spanish, Math, Physics
GPA, Weighted and Unweighted:4.6 W, 4.0 UW
Rank: Unofficially first

APs (including this year's):AB and BC Calc, Hist, Eng, Physics B and C, Chem, Spanish, Chinese, Stats, Psych, and Bio. 5's on those takes so far.
Senior Yr Courseload: Not as hard as junior yr
Number of Apps from Your School: 3, 2 deferred
Other stats (Awards, etc.): National Olympiads, Rensellaer Poly, AP w/ distinction, National Merit, Cum Laude, and a finalist for two leadership programs/full rides at UVA and Duke
Subjective:
ECs listed on app: very focused in five categories. School: Lots of time consuming school and community leadership each year, Community Service: started two service organizations, Sports three varsity sports (one captainship) and Outside Interests: my competitive sport which is rare and not available in college anywhere
Essays (subject and responses): both great. Common app essay--on academic freedom and how homework, tests and grades are unnecessary. Supplemental essay--on my friends and why they are my friends
Teacher Recs: Great. Teachers are like family at a boarding school.
Counselor Rec: Great. Same
Interview. went well. very nice. but she left after 31 minutes, i was so boring.
Hook: rounded affluent white kid at a boarding school...just what they all are looking for, huh?
Location/Person:
State or Country: California for school, Wisconsin for home
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available):Private, smallish, very competitive.
Ethnicity:White
Gender:male
Income Bracket: high
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
Strengths: obvious
Weaknesses: obvious
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied:
I spent hundreds of hours on my essays, making them sharp, short, incisive and sincere. They had no questions about where i stand on things. It was worth every minute. I also do not think this is as random as people believe. Our school sends at least one person to Yale every year. So far, i am the lucky one who got it. I bet at least one other makes it too.
Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I am thrilled to be part of the crop, and look forward to meeting everyone else at Bulldog days. I do feel awful for those on hold....good luck.

i'm intimidated by all the people with way better scores and stuff than me who got deferred...

so i had a question for anyone willing to give me some advice or just general thoughts on this...
i'm an indian-american who applied to go to yale uni....i visited over the summer, visited harvard, mit, columbia, and i can say i only truly got that sense of an attachment when visiting yale.
my parents, on the other hand, indian as they are, are the type to be like "harvard is the best college," and while they were really happy to find out about yale, i feel like they aren't as ecstatic as i was hoping for. i know they continue to insist that i apply to harvard, and while i know some may say go where you really want to, they are paying for college.
i reallly love yale and i don't know if i want to pass up the opportunity i worked so hard for...
any thoughts/reactions/advice would help me out so much right now
thanks!

my dad was like that too. Just apply to Harvard anyways, and then meet the problem if it even arises. You'd be one very lucky person to get accepted to both Yale and Harvard.
If you end up having that option, then sit down with your parents and explain to them why you really love Yale. (I had to do that to convince my parents to let me apply EA to Yale rather than Wharton.) If they need hard evidence, do some research... you'll find something.

Peabody, if you really think that Yale is best for you, apply there and go there if you get in.

Though your parents will be paying for it, it doesn't mean it's their decision. Their money will go to better use if you are at a college where you are happy.

Try explaining that. A lot of it is how you feel when you step on the campus, and you can't control that - so you're lucky that Yale is the place you want to go.

I can relate to your dad. I too always expected S to go to Harvard, but when he took his college tour this past Spring he felt a much stronger connection to Yale. I've bit my tongue and developed an ulcer, but finally have come around. It's four years of your life, possibly the most important. It's the friends you'll have, maybe even the spouse you'll meet. It should be the place where you feel most at home since it will be your new home. No one has ever lost a job, promotion, or grad school admission because they went to Yale instead of Harvard -- just remind your parents of that. Did they visit the campus? Maybe have them talk to the district rep or interviewer? Hang tough -- it's your life.
