And I think I did pretty bad. I'm still a junior and this was my first time, but I didn't expect this to be this hard. I did 5-6 practice tests over the past few months, and I was pretty confident, but I don't know what happened. I think I got around a 1750-1800...I'm not a great standardized test taker.

I really want to go to carolina, I have a 4.7 gpa (after 1st semester of Junior Year, and I still got 2 aps, and 2 honors to boost the GPA more), top 3% of class, decent ECs, 5 APs this year, should have 8-10 APs by the time I graduate. But I'm kinda worried that SATs will potentially hold me back. Hypothetically speaking, if i get a 1900 by the time I apply, will I get in? I'm an IN-STATE student (and asian if that helps?), so people have told me not to worry, but I'm still kinda worried. Thanks for reading this.

BTW, What a great win by Carolina yesterday at Arizona without Wright and Ginyard!

Don't worry! You have plenty of time to retake--you have an April test date coming up as well as October and November if I'm not mistaken. You will be fine. Your SAT score is only one part of your application and with your stellar academics you will not be hurt.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Your SAT score may very well be higher than you expect. I did MUCH better on the real SAT than I expected--much better than I did on practice tests (dozens of them!) and the PSAT. So just wait for scores to come back before you start worrying! If you are truly dissatisfied with your scores, take the ACT.

relax, was this ur first time taking the test?

I got a 1840, 1860, and a 1940

so taking it more than once helps.

also, best study prep (worked for me) is that 2 weeks before the SAT date, take a practice test EVERY DAY. if u dont have time, take half the test one day and the other half the next day.

dont do this on friday night before SAT saturday. also, remember to have fun during the 2 weeks, to keep ur brain from crashing.

the reason u should do this type of review is that u will get used to boring questions and having to deal with it. then when u go on saturday everyone will be like OH MAN 4 HOUR long test??? and u can be like, I took 7 of them, why not one more.

Dear Cubsfan23,
Last spring I went to Carolina 101. It's an admissions pitch to students. They told us then that the first thing that their office looks at is whether or not one is taking the most rigorous courses available. They want to see that a student is challenging themselves. They went on to say that though the SAT or ACT are part on the whole picture, it is the last thing that they look at. Everything in-between such as EC's essays and such allows them to get a more personal impression of each student. Hang in there. Sounds like you're being fairly hard on yourself. I agree, go watch some TV. Unwind.

The SAT is very overrated. I recommend that you take the SAT again, and if you don't do well the second time, give the ACT a go. I did poorly on the SAT, but my ACT score was much better.

the SAT is lame...but everyone on the east coast takes it...whatever, they're only screwing themselves over. my advice? retake SAT, and if you're still not satisfied, take the ACT. i guarantee you'll score higher on ACT b/c it actually applies to what youve learned.

Well, if any of you guys took the DEC 2005 SAT, you guys had the same SAT as me. THe Jan. 2007 SAT is the exact same as the Dec. 2005 sat except the essay and maybe a few questions, which I think is unfair....

most colleges say take the test 3 times, 1 time to eff up, one time to do okay, and one last time to do your best. The 1st time is the "eff up" one because you're really nervous and thoughts of "wow my effing future relies on this test" and there is no way to you can practice taking a test while simulating nervousness. I remember i felt like barfing the first time i took the SAT. However, for now forget about SAT's. focus on your grades and make sure you keep that high so you can study over the summer totally on SAT and not worry about school/grades. I got an 1860 my first time! and then i studied all summer, got a 2030 my 2nd time and then jumped to a 2140 my 3rd time. almost 300 points and my 3rd time i was really chill and collected because i was used to it. However, u must put forth the effort to study and dont simply study things ur good at. If ur breaking 750 on math but getting 600 on cr dont give urself an ego boost and just keep studyin gmath and trying to get that 50 points you have left on math. Focus on ur weaknesses and get professional help if you can (like a SAT class.)
