Hi i am applying for transfer for fall 2010.

I wanted to apply to Olin for the Economics and Strategy major. Is admissions much more competitive for Olin as apposed to arts and science? Is it much harder to get in/are there less spots available? If so i would rather just apply as an Econ major to A&S

hey, I’m a current freshman, and I don’t really know about competitiveness, but I can tell you about the two schools. Remember, anybody can switch schools at the drop of a dime whenever, so that’s not really an issue. Olin gets made fun of a lot for being the wimp out school (we call it B-school preschool), and they have no class on Fridays. That said, WashU is famous for their Art sci school, so I’d think it’d be easier to get into olin, but I’m not sure. Any other questions, I’m free to answer.

I transferred to WashU last fall from an economics major within a business school to the economics major in ArtSci. You may want to contact the admissions office to see what school your previous credits fit best with, but it really doesn’t matter–once you get here you can do just about whatever you want. Each school has a different set of required courses for the major, but the courses in each school can be applied to the other (there is plenty of documentation available about this through both departments so I’m not going to explain it here).

I can’t say for sure, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter what school you apply to as a transfer (at least given your interests… going from business to architecture might be more complicated). My primary major is in ArtSci but I have a minor in the Art school and will likely have one other minor or a second major from elsewhere within the University by the time I graduate. Go with what you’re interested in, not what you think will get you admitted.

I’m a current freshman as well, and I think there are some classes in the b-school on Fridays. I have class on Friday actually… but yeah I would agree with poster above that it makes more sense to apply to what you really want, and if that’s Olin you should go for it.

I don’t think it really matters, in fact, I think you can actually apply to both. As for the poster who refered to Olin as “preschool” completely disagree. We’re well respected for a reason.
