My guess is that SD is going more for the "full package". Sure, it's great if you're smart. But if you don't do anything else... so? So what? What separates you from the other nerds, to put it bluntly? xD; I mean, if I were an admissions officer, I would be like "... I don't want another person living at the library! LOLZ. REJECT!"

Seriously, I did not expect to get the results I did, given my rather low SAT scores for a Chinese-American (between 2000-2400 & 700-800 for SAT IIs). >_<; Lol. Lower-tier Asian!

BUT I have a very strong package overall, imo. Leadership in everything (at least 2 years in each club/activity), save for NHS; awards; strong GPA; AP and honors classes. Plus, my essays really reflected my personality... So I'm thinking that's what got me in. :]

It's pretty sad, I 'thought' I had the whole package but I guess not :(
I still haven't heard from any other UCs actually. I sent my UCR app in late because they asked me to in February... still waiting for that response. And no one would know if they got into UCSB until Monday, right? I'm PRAYING for UCLA... but obviously if UCSD rejected me.. well it's a definite reach..

have you heard of tufts syndrome? it's when the colleges feel like you only applied to their college because theyre your backup. so they reject you. it sounds weird, but true.

uh.. I'm pretty sure they do not reject you because you are "too good". That is a rumor and highly untrue especially in the public UC system.

If you get rejected from UCLA you might get your application forwarded to UCM/UCR. But if you get rejected by UCR, you do not get forwarded to UCB.

I got in with:
SATI: 2190
Sat II: 780, 760
gpa: BAD! lol
ECs: Lots of leadership(ASB, clubs, international events...)
Awards: (National Merit CS, etc...)

But realli I wanted to say I know a prsn who barely broke a 2000 with like a 3.6 or 3.7 gpa and a weightd arnd 3.9 gpa. Like, I hrd barely 700 Sat IIs. He got into an impactd major too so I hope that gives you guys hope for the appeals if you do it. Don't worry just appeal! Make sure to talk to your GC and every1 who will give you a good rec! Make sure the GC believes that you did not get in because of a mistake otherwise your case won't be fought as well.

(not being literal, but if you look at their system which is on page 23 of that long thread their formula is weighted so very few of the overall points come from the essay sectionl/eadership activities/etc)

i thought it was based on numbers. in that case, i should NEVER have gotten in if there's people like you guys. i had a 3.3 unweighted gpa and a 3.6-3.7 uc gpa. i'm asian, so i'm definitely one of the "majority".

i got into ucsd as a winter admit [which sucks because i don't know what to do during fall/for housing] in warren as a biochem major. i also got my letters from davis and irvine, which were shockers too.

i hope everyone gets into the school they want. admissions are REALLY weird this year.
