I completed my on-campus senior interview yesterday, for Fall 2019 consideration, and I feel like it could have gone better. I noticed the interviewer kept asking questions to draw more out of me and I fear that she will report back that I’m not “intellectually mature” or something of that nature. I just felt awkward. Current students, recently accepted, or anyone involved in the interview scene: what was your interview experience like and did you feel like it had a lot of weight on your application? It might just be perfectionist me being tough on myself. Thanks and good luck on your college process!
@16andcollege - Rising sophomore here. I don’t think your reaction is unusual. And I don’t think it went badly. Maybe you just didn’t “connect” with your interviewer? The important thing is to try and figure out what you’d like to do differently in your next interview. What could you do in a similar setting that would help both you and your interviewer feel more at ease, and able to talk comfortably about the things you feel that it is important to share about yourself? I’m fairly sure that @BKSquared (a Yale alum interviewer) has written very helpful things on this site about interviewing, so try to find those posts. It is a good thing to try and figure out how to do (anything) better and that quality makes you well-suited for challenging colleges! Best of luck during your senior year and in your college search!
